Once again, you have allowed me to now have a better understanding of this throw during my own training. Sampson Judo is my no.1 go to for great instruction on Judo throws. Thank you for continuing to create such clean and great videos.
Great technical video. Really appreciate the detail. I recently learned this throw in a BJJ 'gi takedowns' class from a Judo brown belt. Then I really felt the superiority of Judo. Wow! I had no idea just how savage Judoka really are. I reckon Judo has to be the most hardcore martial art out there. 10 minutes of randori and I was ready to a) vomit b) take more Judo classes. Massive respect. Thank you.
Yes judo is extremely effective! It is a shame that not as many people give it the respect it deserves. I would 100% recommend doing more judo to compliment your BJJ. It will give you an enormous advantage. Best of luck on your journey.
I started relatively late at 24 and now I trained for 5 months. Ippon Seoi Nage is one of the throws more difficult to me since I am 6.3ft and have to get really low to throw my training partners. In yesterdays lesson I tried it again and again but my Trainer still had complaints. I hope with this Video I will do better on Friday 😁✌🏻
@@julietpapa2657Thanks for the tip, I wasn't bending which made me use more strength to lift my opponent when practicing, but since I bet my knees, I can now lift my opponent 2 times more easier than before, thanks again.
Excellent step by step explanation; speed is of the essence to avoid the counter. It may be illegal in Judo but one of the street/Trad Jiu JItsu counters to the throw is a rear choke and take-down.
Hi Thomas, we will be covering it in due time. However whilst you wait you can check out me demonstrating Uki Waza as a counter in my club here: ruclips.net/video/zbRb--o2o0g/видео.html
Hi! I would really appreciate your assistance if possible. What I am interested in, is instructional books showing judo techniques up close providing details, that is, with good illustrations/pictures. I would like to incorporate judo moves into my personal combatives training, so not just another judo book but something more fitting. If you are aware of such books please provide titles or a good dvd series from a teacher you respect or links to those. Either way, thank you so much for your time!
I wonder if a good level of squat style seoi nage is required to learn the drop knee Seoi nage?? Or maybe It's ok to learn the squat and drop knee style Seoi nage at the same time??
Well i'm late, but what you should do is use another type of throw (a neck one) or just try and adapt this one. When i try to throw a smaller person, i just use trips/sweeps because it's not easy, unless you got their arm extended upwards or their necks
Because when I execute the throw I want all momentum going forwards. Being on my toes enables that. If I am on my heels, then I have some weight going backwards which makes the throw less powerful.

Do you understand the concept of being an uke in judo? It is literally the other persons job to “go with the throw”, namely to prevent themselves from getting injured during a demonstration - especially after what would have been a whole day of filming.

Great attention to detail. I often do the dustbin throw, without knowing what I am doing wrong, and now I know how to remedy it. Thank you!
Best ISN explanation on RUclips.
I used to do judo for four years. 2 years later and I kind of forgot it all so I'm relearning.

Do you squeeze when your arm comes under the shoulder or not ?
Yes, you will need to squeeze to some extent in order to control Uke's arm/shoulder and you need to control in order to throw.

Absolutely no reason why it shouldn't if all the steps are followed. There is no strength used here.

I have trouble because I’m 6’7” and most everyone is shorter than me. Any advice?

I noticed you keep your heels just barely hovering off the ground sometimes. Is there a reason?
Because when I execute the throw I want all momentum going forwards. Being on my toes enables that. If I am on my heels, then I have some weight going backwards which makes the throw less powerful.
