- Amsa won The Big House 10, and I decided to let Twitter ask me ANYTHING about the state of Melee and what the future will become of it. Today, @turndownforwalt asked me if he can win her back.

If Amsa can win TBH10, you can move on Walt.
LMAO
The Toph/Armada/Alex19 dynamic reminds me of the concept in improv comedy called "Pirate, Robot, Ninja".
Basically the Pirate is a goofy wildcard, the Robot is a logical straightman, and the Ninja works in the background to bring the other two together and keep the scene moving.
I almost wish that you didn't explain the concept because the name alone is worth a thousand images. Are there other improv concepts with similarly awesome names?
For the storyline question, I think the rise of Jmook in particular - it happening on such a huge stage like genesis - introduced a new and exciting storyline to the game. AMSa winning the big house, too, has also helped inject exciting storylines.
I think even in a post mango and post hbox melee landscape, the game will endure and thrive
it is kind of ironic how the high tiers are easier to combo and even fight against due to their prevalence, yet the worse characters can give you a bad time
Yea, matchup experience is that important
I hate fighting luigi
I’d say this kinda depends on the character. Comboing low tiers as Fox/Falco is still pretty easy/comparable to comboing other characters.
Back when I played puff there were def some characters that were harder to punish like Zelda
yea i play falco and always sit up when someone picks ganon... i struggle vs him
@@hanthonypiano this sounds overly simplified but trust me when I say that if you’re struggling vs Ganon you probably should start by shooting more lasers.
He has very few tools to deal with lasers compared to other characters
I mean, we are seeing controllers getting buffed and optimized. This immensely buffs the technical characters. i.e foxes.
Amsa won big house and walt is objectively hot. Guarantee he can win her back
Triple R is no joke. I played him in brawl and he'd shred with Gannondorf.
I honestly think it's impossible for a community to agree that a game is balanced or even close to it. I mostly play Hisoutensoku and I'm pretty confident in the fact that it's relatively pretty well balanced. Any character except maybe one could realistically win a big tourney... But at the end of the day, people will nitpick characters arguing how that makes them exponentially worse/better than the other characters like any other community. I wonder if this is just inevitable in every community very interesting.
Toph videos for men to live by
11:05 The commoners are too ignorant to recognize how good it is to have Zain as the golden boy. Dude is nothing but positive energy and charisma, always grinding, always getting better, and swaggy as hell when he wants to be. And for every "fuck Marth" person out there, there isn't a SINGLE CHARACTER that's been at the top that people didn't bitch about. Fox, Puff, Peach, Sheik, even Falco back in the day people would call broken and lame. We HAVE our new guard and people just complain about him like they do with every other #1 player. smh
Thank you for answering my question, Toph!
And sorry for the question being too long and annoying to edit, seanathan!
this is a cakewalk rofl
I feel like the most common tricast I see (not the best either) is Coney, TKBreezy, and EE. I definitely agree that it's not preferred though.
Thank you for answering my question :)
i genuinely think that like... if we keep having years with a high amount of supermajors (or at least just really really stacked regular majors)... there could be a year where all 10 of that year's top 10 players have won a supermajor during that year. like imagine if the biggest majors in 2023 are like smash summit (first half of year), smash summit (second half of year), genesis, big house, shine, riptide, smash world tour, panda cup, pound, and ludwig invitational 2 or something like that, and all 10 of those are won by a different player, and none of the top 10 win more than one supermajor. they all each have 1 supermajor win. what do we do then lmao? and that's so realistic too, like, that exact situation wont happen this year because some players have already won more than one, but it could be the case that the year ends with all 10 toptenners having a massive win. like what if the next few massive tournaments go to people like llod, jmook, joshman, moky, etc? that's such an interesting thing to think about
ON GOD that thumbnail 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great video toph
toph videos make my knees hurt
I think the 'Storyline Vested interest' question is coming at it from the opposite direction. As a community we're not 'vested in the old guard' JUST because they are 'old guard' if that makes sense. you can see this when Ken was in some tourneys a few years ago - people were excited because he *was* part of the old guard and then his results ended the conversation. We're not talking about how Ken could come back and do it because, "He's Ken" (as if that is ever an actual argument, its one of those, 'if you know you know' kind of phrases).
But we're interested in the HBOX Mang0 storylines because they show up and get results. HBOX is an immovable wall and Mang0 is an unstoppable force. I'm definitely biased towards Mang0 as a viewer but show me another player who's as explosive, unique, and consistent as Mang0? He certainly has his ups and downs but they've been top 5 for as long as most people have been playing/in the scene. Are we supposed to ignore Top 8's?
Overall I think, too, that our commentators know who's in the scene and know who's getting what results so when someone does come up we've got some storylines there. The only thing that really hurting someone like JMook, for example, is that they came up SO fast it feels like he's in his first few chapters whereas someone like Mang0/HBOX have a few books out.
love these Q&A videos! keep up the good work. heres an algo comment for the GOAT
Best quadcast commentary was Summit 1 Godcouch.
perhaps, fox < yoshi
:V
I think melee is way more well balanced than people give it credit for. Like in ultimate some matchups of even high tiers are just "unwinnable" forcing pros to get secondaries or lose. Their low tiers can beat the best, but their high tiers have "unwinnables"
Melee has solo mid tiers winning majors over their worst matchups and honestly it can be pushed further
I agree with the premise but I also don’t think these “unwinnable” matchups in ult are as bad as people think
What are some sets with the Alex19 armada and toph commentary?
Ringler is the white melee version of that one bodybuilding Chinese tik tok dude
If Samus could, link/young link could.
Love these!
Great vid 🐬
As someone who started playing in tournaments when Ultimate came out and has slowly progressed to more and more melee...
I do enjoy the way each character can allow a player to express themselves more. The only thing I miss is more setup characters being viable. I do think the ways a Diddy Kong or Rob main expresses their playstyle are super missed in melee.
The reason that an unbalanced roster works is that it helps to define the core gameplay mechanics and systems with top tiers.
Ludwig invitational
I regret what I did because of Walt’s tweet. I am not Amsa
wait why would we not count mang0’s fox as a “top top fox” when he’s literally the best player in the world still and mostly plays fox ?
Crazy to see mang0 throw in a laser in between wave shining Marth across fd
no he cant cuz he isnt hot like amsa
😿😿😿😿😿
Ringlers such a weirdo
