Okay, but isn't it so cool that after looking back, it turns out that there was a lot more to Duck the whole time? The creators of this show are consistently impressive with their details and subtle story telling

I'm surprised by the lack of comments suggesting that the puppets from DHMIS are possessed by the souls of dead children and the entire studio is actually inside a pizzeria.
@@snackplaylove you talkin bout the symbols on the book? Those look more like multiple engineering/alchemical symbols layered over each other, but there are definitely letter/number-like symbols in there, too
Yeah it has the same vibe as Rick and Morty trolling the part of the audience who look into the relationship issues of the family instead of just enjoying the adventures. Which is weird, because they were also doing those deeper messages and character interactions....
I thought the whole "June 19th" thing was Father's day, symbolizing that Roy was in charge and controlling the show, and that the flip from June 19th to June 20th was symbolizing that Roy was no longer in power.
@@dojyaaaaan1890 that's why I brought it up. He never said anything before about what he said in this video about June 19th. And I was wondering why he didn't mention the original meaning.
I'm just throwing this in there but Duck is also the voice of reason in the series. For example in DHMIS 2 he questions the clock why they need to take a bath if they're already clean, as well as suggest that time is a concept of human perception. In 5, he questions the teacher's qualification for healthy foods and decides he has had enough of their BS. Each time he is silenced for pointing things out that don't make any sense to him. That may change with this new series but for the most part Duck is the voice of reason.
I also think each character represents an issue or way the media/corporations/adults treats demographics of age -yellow guy: young people are easy to milk and brainwash -red guy: the young adults get their messages and ideas stolen -duck: old people knowledge being seen as worthless or treating old people as expendable/stupid despite their experience
I agree with that. There's a certain left-leaning side that's always trying to stamp down reason in favor of passion, because relying solely on kneejerk emotion and not logic/thinking makes people easier to manipulate (such as perhaps the fear of a rampant virus *cough cough*) Regardless, in the original videos of this series, Duck was also the one who ended up getting torn apart and consumed because he wouldn't stop questioning what the "programs" were telling him. In other words, they got rid of him because he didn't agree; he got shut down for not cooperating. He could represent those people trying to get others to ask questions of their own and actually think for themselves rather than just absorbing what the media and "certain people" in authority are feeding them.
Not at all related to the theory, but I love how there was a bring back to the line "pesky bee" by duck, that for some reason was the most memorable line in the entire show for me and one of my favorites
The fly landing on Yellow Guy's eye also indicates that he's being forced to look at the problem. He literally couldn't ignore it if he wanted to. He's also been contaminated by it.
Good point, and I want to make an addition: Because yellow guy represents the youth, this could also mean that he will be the one suffering the most in the future when the problem escalates.
@@elisabethkonig4267 Makes sense of how he’s been treated in the series. His clown painting was destroyed, he was forced into a cult, his ears bled, was brainwashed, forced to eat his friend, and drowned in oil.
I think there’s more than that to Duck. In E:2 of DHMIS, Duck actually tries to explain a scientific theory, but is cut off by the clock. Afterwards he seems more compliant with the obviously inaccurate teachings of the guests. When E:5 happens, Duck keeps getting visions of the real world whenever he picks up the phone, the one that Redguy (the artist) is calling. As an adult, he is able to pick up on the metaphors being laid down, unlike Yellowguy, who represents a younger audience and cannot pick up on those metaphors. When he gets these messages, he is finally able to realize that the guests aren’t telling the truth. “Something’s… wrong-“ “That doesn’t make any sense-!” Once he’s had enough and tries to leave, he gets eaten by a food can (which probably represents a corporation of some kind), and is unable to stop it. He acted as a pawn for the companies sponsoring DHMIS, and once he had outlived his purpose, he was recycled into wrong food to feed to a younger audience so they would eat it up. It’s late and I probably didn’t communicate clearly what I was saying, but yeah.
2 things I want to mention: 1. During the audio as you zoom in and out of the tv, there’s distorted voices. It’s hard to figure out what there saying but it sounds like “we have to hide the body.” Possibly why there are flies and themes to do with rot… 2. The text that appears are filled with quick changing images of the characters…I wonder if it’s possible to piece them together to see if there’s anything hidden-?

@@just_eve745 but what about my shredaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
My thoughts on their roles is: Duck represents the older generation. Our grandfathers and grandmothers. Red Guy represents the adults. Yellow Guy would be the children... or a child like thought process. My reasoning behind it goes back to all the red guys in the past episodes all in the same room. A red guy is not just one person. It is a certain group of people even if one red guy may be a creative in the story. Wouldn't stand to reason there would be other ducks or yellow guys too to represent their groups of people?
It's a pretty good idea, just because 1 Red Guy (which is a simplification used to represent the adults) immagined his adventures with yellow guy and duck that doesn't make all of them immaginary beings. But I'm more of the opinion of Duck not being a demographic but simply a part of the creator's ego, the one ignoring or noticing the problems but unaware of the bigger picture like red guy. The reason is because Yellow guy and Red guy have similar names and are both human like, Duck has a very different name and physical appeareance.
Duck representing the older generation fits a lot. He wears the old fashion type of suit, he is seen to own a pocket watch in episode 2 time, and reading newspaper is also a older thing.
@@patsondakaenjoyer911 what? teenagers care about the world's problems more than probably any other age group. what teenagers have you been talking to???

Duck mislabeling the fly and butterfly as a bee is much more than a simple mislabel. Bees can cause harm, flies and butterflies are harmless. Flies signify death and butterflies are often a symbol of next paths or beginnings. So, when duck kills the butterfly and characterizes it as a bee, he is saying that he sees this as something dangerous, or that could cause injury, and kills it. This, in a way, justifies his killing. Essentially, duck killed an opportunity (butterfly) and a sign (fly) because he thought it was harmful.
Interesting, that lines up pretty well with the assumption that duck is representing the older generation. What I mean is that his conservatism in wanting to keep things the way they were due to it working before and being tradition leads to him identifying any change as harmful, whether that be the opportunity (I think for love?) or the sign of something dying (mainstream centralized media dying?).
Fun Fact: In 2017, the people behind “Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared” actually teamed up with the people behind Cartoon Network’s “The Amazing World Of Gumball” to create an episode called “The Puppets” where Gumball and Darwin are trapped in a DHMIS style world.
At the mall near me, Happy Tree Friends was in a bargain bin filled with actual Kids shows along with some anime. They were even playing it on a monitor displayed publicly.
I've always seen Duck as a higher-up type of character in DHMIS. Like, he has political levels of power, that could easily surpass Roy's influence and Red Guys show as a whole, but due to being up there in age, he sometimes ends up getting manipulated by the people around him
The creators may try to paint him as a right wing figure, but, without trying to get too political (don't want that mess here), I think, with your description, he may be representative of politicians as a whole. Old guys who do what they're told despite the clear issues with everything. (And that's both sides, I'm staying as neutral as possible here to try and prevent the comment section from crucifying me)
You know it’s a great series when people wait literal years for episodes. This theory was a long time coming, so glad DHMIS is back in the spotlight again
(SPOILERS!!) After watching the full show now, even though it seems much more large and confusing than this- it really is incredible how many things he got right just from the trailer. Red guy being the first to Notice the Problem in episode 5, Yellow guy being faced up close with what’s going on in the finale, and Duck ignoring and denying everything throughout the show. I’m super excited to see what his theory is gonna be like now that the full show is out!
I'd argue that duck is the one that noticed most of the problems in the early episodes. In episode 1, duck is the only one that doesn't get sucked into the fake job world which red and yellow guy do. in the family episode duck is the only one that rejects the whole family idea the entire time while red and yellow guy want to be apart of a family. Red guy and yellow guy keep falling into the traps in the early episodes while duck is the voice of reason and tries to stop them
@@waaa7732 I think duck is a plant to prevent them from trying to leave. If you notice in the last episode Leslie has a whole box of ducks to replace him but you don't see her have replacements of yellow or red.

I personally don't see this just being another message about the deterioration of TV shows. I believe this will more than likely comment on current media. News shows, newspapers and the such. Discussing how they themselves are often incredibly filled with adverts and opinions, and not the actual facts. For what Duck represents, I could honestly imagine that they show the idiocy of news shows, certain politicians, or just the consumers of the former two's words. Blaming the issue on something foreign, such as bees, when in actuality the problem isn't down to them, but flies. Symbols of gradual decay themselves. Flies themselves, are also natural beings. So I believe that the creators are saying how disaster is just a natural thing that will happen unless everyone bands together and stops it. And one final, somewhat unrelated note, DHMIS is airing on 4, or Channel 4, one of the first UK channels that makes money from advertisements besides ITV.
I think duck represents the parents and how they are quick to assume that media is the major problem in children(yellow guy) while refusing the get to the underlying issues
Question: if duck is ignorant to the real problem, why was he shown in the food episode to not only recognize that something was very wrong but then was killed for trying to either speak out against it or leave the show?
Off the top of my head, keeping in theme with this theory, it could be because he is ignorant or dismissive to world problems and only starts to notice when it is right next to him - and even then he didn't know Red guy was missing.
I personally thought that it represented those changing their views and addressing problems to be silenced by others in their group, or those worse than the group, because it shows they can change their views but refuse. Another good one I saw was someone saying it could represent them not realizing its a problem until its too late.

To me, it could also be a way of pointing to the people who don't care about other people until they are the direct victim of the problem, but I haven't rewatched most of these for a while, lol
Could be that he only acts out against things that effect him and go against his views..trying to stop the foods, stopping the fly, that kinda stuff; kinda like selective hearing but for problems and matters, you only act on certain things that effect you but otherwise you'll simply ignore and swat it away.
dhmis is one of the few internet horror staples that i can get behind theories of. it gives the impression that everything is intentional, something many other series lack
the first episode literally had no intention. the idea of doing something with puppets came first and the song came later. maybe watch Inside A Mind's DHMIS theory it's really something to think about
When yellow guy ate duck, I think he was replaced buy a new and "improved" duck by Roy. Making the new duck not recognize the bigger problem. Ignoring what the actual problem is, cause the first few episodes he was paying attention but was shut down, examples like, when the clock told him he needed a bath but he said he was already clean and didn't need one, and he questioned if the teacher knew what technically qualified as healthy foods. That's why I think Roy wanted to og duck gone cause he noticed that he was questioning what was really going instead of just believing anything he reads on the news paper just like an old person (suggesting he's of elderly age), on and made the steak teacher do surgery on his and made yellow guy eat him to put them both through misery. And now the new duck isn't questioning what's really going on just like Roy would've wanted.
Something that caught my eye here too is how incredibly busy the background is and how much mroe props there seem to be. This could be because of the angle shift (can also be a thing if I’m not reading into it toooo much) but considering what we have right now? Worth mentioning
While re-watching DHMIS with your interpretation in mind or actualy just in general, I think Duck is supposed to represent the Elderly, like Yellow Guy represents the youth. He dresses in rather old fashioned clothes, he´s expirienced in how the world works and recognises it if the show is teaching nonsense, but gets shut down by the show if he tries to call it out and in this trailer he reacts exactly how many elderly react to things like climat change, by falsly interpreting the symptoms and not recognising the problem as what it actualy is. He´s seeing the indicator of a mayor problem as nothing more than a "pesky" inconvinience.
I'm late to the party here, and although I agree with your elderly interpretation to a point, I see him more as a snobby 20-30 year old that "wants to make it big in Hollywood" considering how much he wants to be the center of attention, the dad of the family, the boss, the dead guy, the leader. He wants everything to be about him
I’m so happy DHMIS is back. That thing scared the crap outta me during 4th grade, and now that I’m going to college next year, it gives me great nostalgia.
Looking back on this and having seen the series, it seems Duck sometimes actually stops the problem and then other times ignores the problem. In episodes 1, 3, and 4 he actually STOP the problem. He undoes the damage done in Ep1, he is the first one who notices the family is off and possibly dangerous, and and in episode 4 he kills off Warren. But in the 5th and 6th episodes he ignores the problems around him. Yellow Guy also ignores the problems pretty often except for episodes 2 and 6. Red Guy is the most inconsistent outside of Episode 5 where he actually goes out of his way to escape with Duck and Yellow. Just thought that was interesting to point out.
I’m thinking instead of a politician, Duck is supposed to be a analog for “Legacy Media”. It makes more sense alongside what the other 2 characters are supposed to be. Duck calls the fly “a pesky bee” because he doesn’t realize that what he considers legitimate media is dying. Maybe that’s why Red guy calls him in episode 5 in the original show once he realizes that there’s a new and different way to produce media. Red Guy is trying one final time to explain to an older entertainer that times are changing. Before Duck can change his mind however, he is eaten/betrayed by the very kids he brainwashed with his outdated traditional media being represented by yellow guy.
I wonder: the fridge has several items stuck to it, and I know I paused because something struck me about the shopping list. It seemed odd, but upon pausing I realized the post-it with "HELP" written on it. So, could it be possible the fridge itself has some clues to things?
Maybe the characters also represent the “main” generations at the moment. With Duck representing the Boomers and older generations who might struggle to see, or willingly turn a blind eye, to new ideas. Squashing down anything new be it good(the butterfly) or bad(the fly). Then suddenly getting vocal when something they know for a fact is misinformation(like in the nutrition episode). Then we have Red Guy representing the Millennials who might try to call attention to these new issues and their underlaying causes, but are constantly drowned out, resorting to more subtle ways of discussing these problems. Finally we have Yellow Guy representing GenZ and the younger generations having been exposed to so much information both corrupted and uncorrupted, are able to make their voices heard and might be able to get to the root of the problem.
I don’t want to pull existential dread out of nowhere but the time frame that younger generations have to fix things is already so little (and still reducing due to the bad decisions that people in power today keep making), and the chances of us wanting to fix things are becoming slimmer and slimmer by the day, with depression, nihilism, and the want to live our best lives before it’s over taking over instead.
To add to that is that yellow guy eventually takes action (the Banjo) and I think it will go to them all trying to fix the problem or the only way to fix the problems
The ad joke was gold. Real and gold. Mat always understands perfect timing. The time he puts into his scripts to make even the smallest moments happen is undeniable.
The fact that every detail of the trailer isn't important is impressive Mat, I truly think you need a vacation and stop over thinking for at least a week
I'd just like to mention that fly was uploaded on June 19th, which was also father's day this year... I think MatPat's theory from 3 years ago was completely confirmed by this tbh
I wasn’t really old enough to enjoy dhmis when it was at its peak. However, after watching the series years after its debut and constantly rewatching your theories on it, I am beyond excited to be apart of the hype now!! :))
I was the same, when I initially watched them I was too young to understand the depth of detail in them and just creeped out by the theories but now I'm totally absorbed in them after watching them again a while after they were released.
You could also think of the earlier Wakey Wakey trailer as to alluding toward the Red Scare, as he similar to McCarthy, creates a false tension within his community. Of course, this is in the abstract sense, but the idea of turning the villagers against one another is similar in concept to what McCarthy did back when there was a huge fear of Communism sweeping through the United States. Another potential connection from the opposite end would be how the Duck is a TV star, and how McCarthy targeted individuals in Hollywood.
This is something that has happened before McCarthy and is still happening today, all across the world in fact. One of the most recent UK themed versions is the current political correction that has been happening for quite a while. Police have been tasked to focus on hate speech, sometimes over pursuing violent crimes, with the Scotland Yard even Tweeting out that they're watching people's public discourse for hate speech. Turns out that pitting the public against each other is a great way to ignore problems that are actually causing damage to society, such as excessive pollution, immigrants that refuse to integrate, rising crime rates, failing economies, and global tensions getting hotter.
@@sp4c1ng_0ut8 I'm primarily referring to Islamic immigrants that have been brought in and refuse to integrate with the country they go to. Such as protests and pushes from Islamic migrants in the UK to institute Sharia over UK law for Islamic citizens
I think matpat has a problem of finding a viewpoint, and instead of considering counter-arguments, and evidence that doesn't exactly mesh well, instead stretches literally as much as he can to fit everything.
MatPat is not providing definitive explanations of media. The point of these channels is that he’s expressing his opinion on the different shows and games he looks into. In no way does he say that this is fact, he’s just providing his audience with the ideas he takes from it.
@@Yxngcyborg One thing I will add on to this conversation though, I don't think he realises how much influence he has on his audience. And I fear that he'll unintentionally end up causing more harm than good. Hes done it before, and its most likely he'll do it again.
@@acapeIIIa_callilulelo that's my main point yeah, it encourages a narrow viewpoint of just stringing everything together instead of any differing opinions or mindsets. it usually takes a truly just wrong or insane theory for any sort of other ones to be put out, but as long as something "seems right" most people who watch accept it as fact.
@@Yxngcyborg this channel and it's other names have been literally KNOWN by kids and young teens as a channel that provides "facts" on various topics like games and shows. I find it odd that duck was “ignoring problems” at first but then suddenly, in the healthy episode he’s constantly insisting that something is wrong Edit: Omg, tysm for all the likes and the fun discussion in the replies! It’s super kool looking at all of your guys’ opinions on this! This like never happens to me so thank you!
They could be saying even tho duck was right about his suspicions and worries he isn't always correct. The left and right are two wings on the same bird so even tho they both have good ideas or worries you shouldn't always listen to them, but you shouldn't silence them either. That's how duck ended up getting eaten lol. Tho I have no idea what's really goin on
I think Duck represents the parents, and that seeing how screwy the lessons were getting in that episode tipped him off and made him realize that things were wrong. Most adults tend to ignore an issue until it's too big to ignore, instead choosing to deal with the smaller symptoms instead of the bigger picture, mostly through ignorance(whether by choice or because they truly didn't know what was going on is dependant on the situation). So that's my theory on Ducks role. Red Guy is the creator, Roy is the sponsor, Yellow Guy is the children, and Duck is the parents/parental guardians.
It could be a difference between Duck the character and the 'actor' playing him. He would be written as someone who ignores problems and such, but the actual person trapped in the show, as he realizes in that episode, is different.
How I interpret it: Duck: He is taking action against the most immediate problem, but isn't getting that there is a bigger problem associated with it. Yellow guy: He sees the problem, he knows that it could mean a bigger problem, but is either scared to do something or since he can't see were the bigger problem is (the fridge) he will look at anything that could be the problem. He then looks for things that are problems but are not the problem that fly was there for. Both Duck and Yellow guy represents both sides of internet discorse. Red Guy: Is the normal person. He is the person not online all the time. He sees the problem, can identify were the problem is, and even knows what to do about it. The thing is neither the Duck or Yellow guy are willing to listen to him, because they both have there own way of dealing with the bigger problem that is not really dealing with the real problem. That is why it seems Red Guy was kicked out of the town in the now removed trailer. He didn't follow either way of thinking, maybe even pointing out the flaws both Duck and Yellow Guys views. Then in turn both sides decided he was part of the problem and kicked him out. Pushing away normal people to cater to the group that they are leading.
This seems quite logical, but also simple to me. I think the show runners could do something more subtle and interesting than portraying red guy as "the normal one", since most people will say "they are normal" and "the other ones aren't" Do you get what I'm trying to say? The whole problem part is really well thought out tho!
Red Guy was a neutral party - and their refusal to acknowledge his viewpoint is akin to most people who are politically-invested: "You're either with or against us", without a gray area in between. Preemptively antagonizing and dehumanizing those who share different opinions to us without dissecting their perspective. It's an unfortunate flaw in the human psyche because we are too "evolutionarily lazy" to come up with reasons other than our own individual ones, so we brush aside and filter past all the "junk" that doesn't serve a purpose in reinforcing our own preconceived notions.
Just a random thing I noticed; Duck went from the right side of the table to the middle. Yellow guy was the "main focus" of season 1 of dhmis, and he was sitting in the middle. Now Duck is sitting in the middle this could be a clue that Duck is now the "main focus" of season 2. Idk just a random thought.
My theory, yellow guy represents youth, like matpat said, but the duck represents society, smashing the fly. This represents how society turns down problems,(also addressing the wrong problems, being why he called it a bee) but only temporarily. But that's all I got. Edit: This also explains the newspaper
Two points. 1. Duck was one of the more observant characters in the original. He noticed the problems during the health episode and tried to ditch. Heck he's the one that points out their BS. 2. The lab leak theory is confirmed at this point so it's a weird thing to point to as paranoia on the Orangutan's part.
Also Duck was the one who questioned the Clock's view on time arguing it may be a function of human perception. How could you call him narrow-minded with a nuanced perspective like that?
@@jonboulet1614 they’re not calling him fully full minded, just not for new things or ideas. I think the push is that duck represents the older generation. He’s wise, but when it comes to change, he rather everything stay the same
@@NotJuneji It's funny that seems to be a common sentiment in the comment section but it doesn't really fit MattPatt's framing of duck as simply paranoid and ignorant. Your take at least has nuance.
Just a brief detail from the start of this video is the mattress sitting beside the tub in the ruined home. Holding a mattress over yourself in a bathtub is a recommended response for tornadoes. And from the end: Duck always wears a suit. When he finally speaks up about something being wrong, the system consumes him in a more literal way than anyone else. Also, from Episode 4, remember that while Red Guy learns about the internet's potential to him, as a creator, Duck is taken in by frivolity, and Yellow Guy, the impressionable one who seems to be the one change should come through, is looking at data. Just wanted to point those things out.
I remember watching don't hug me I'm scared when I was younger and I didn't think it was that bad and then I went back and rewatched an episode and a lot of things about myself suddenly made sense.
I think that duck could also represent the way that older generations can be so easily swayed. He was the voice of reason at one point and seemed reliable but as time went on the changes around him were confusing, and probably connects to the Sundance film where fears and misunderstandings get the best of him on a very intense scale. He’s comfortable reading his right wing newspaper but then the paper’s content might have shifted with ulterior motives instead of actually reporting news. Which is a very real problem a lot of people are having nowadays. The problem is some of these boomers are comfortable enough with the outlets they’re used to and are less likely to notice propaganda.
Young people are unbelievably easily swayed by propaganda, look at bloody Instagram, all it takes is for some internet personality or singer to make a an uninformed statement and suddenly that's gospel to millions of teenagers and young adults
Girl really said this as if it's not literally the exact same for younger generations being so easily swayed by and unable to tell left wing propaganda away
I feel like Mat missed a very good chance to explore how the fly could represent Lord of The Flies. That book is such a telling allegory about the corruption power can give you.
i'm so glad this series is back it was one of the original series that made me love horror due to it's ability to portray ideas that are absolutely horrific yet so incredibly interesting and make you think about what you just saw just something that sticks with you for a while, I'm extremely excited for this new season and am glad you're along for the ride matpat so you can explain to us what exactly is going on as i'm sure this season will be just as or even more jam packed with lore, symbolism and the like
Here's another theory, could the Bird swatting the fly indicate at all be a reference to Socrates who talked about himself as being "the gadfly that annoys the horse and must be swatted". As in he's the fly that points out societies problems, and when they swat him they are prompted to act and make changes.
@@duishungry True enough. I just try to stay skeptic is all as references to philosophy can be and often are unintentional as philosophy especially ancient Greek philosophy also continued on into our present as it is the foundation of much of our thinking and culture in many of the worlds democratic societies. I mean there is a connection to what you say but is there any other connection directly pointing towards Socrates or his philosophy in the series before or after this? DHMIS has pointed at direct mostly current events more often than just views of things from far past philosophy but as Mat just stated the past namely history is in their theory likely involved so maybe this could be part of it. But philosophy is broad in application so it is by its nature designed to apply to life and or match up as it is describing behavior and understandings of humanity in various places and situations. I just call it a stretch because I see that current events and more direct interpretations seem more likely to be the influence for this rather than this one you mention so far. They tie together further sure but is there anything that puts the link to Socrates ahead of them just claiming that this is Duck due to their view of the world not recognizing the problem as has been implied? I do think you may have something in how specific it is to the actions of Duck and especially if the nature of the Fly turns out to be the result of a character or its own character in the future events. I still think it is cool however so maybe you do have something. Perhaps more clues to link this do exist and we both haven't found them or they haven't been released. So good catch but I am watching to see if it ties in further or if it is just a coincidence of the broad nature of philosophy.
There's a pattern when Duck goes from talking normal to hard auto-tuned in the series. when he follows the script, he talks ok. but when he goes off script and questioning what happens, his voice sounds broken, like he goes against some programming inside him.
Maybe the reason yellow guy seems to be stepping up and speaking up is because the generation that watched this show is now grown up and taking on the issues we see in the world. Our eyes are opened and we are trying to fix things. I mean, a lot of what Matpat was saying in this seems really familier
@deagleninja That doesn't discount the fact that the many are trying but are hitting roadblocks, usually from politicians or others that benefit from things we are fighting against. Especially since it is those people currently with the power. That could be part of the commentary this new season of DHMIS tries to gets across. Or I may way off; I'm no theorist. This was just my thought when Mat mentioned that yellow guy went from a passive observer to noticing and learning how to speak up and advocate for themsleves, others, and the world we live in. When DHMIS came out I was in middle school or maybe early high school. Now that it has come back I am in my early 20's, a full adult and facing adult things. Very scary adult stuff with everything happening. Idk, it just feels very well timed.

Well, now that the full series has dropped, who’s ready for the next Film Theory video? Update: New DHMIS Theory Video has been confirmed in the latest GT Live video on Lamu, it’s in production NOW y’all!
There are way too many of these NON-KID-FRIENDLY VIDEOS being TARGETED to KIDS!!! Thank you for actually being honest to the YT ELITES and making sure your video wasn’t among them
why can youtube just decide a video is kid friendly against the creators input. like I'm trying to think of why that would be a good idea, and I can't. I can't think of a scenario where a creator says the video is not a kids video but it should be counted as one.
This teaser is a great example of the fact that there's not always a bigger picture. Just because it's there, doesn't mean it has a story to tell. Sometimes there's no hidden message, sometimes there's no deeper meaning, sometimes, it's just there.
@@cantthinkofaname5046 This teaser is for the show we got though, it shows part of a set from episode 5 and shows various clips from the show we got, Mat just tried to connect the teaser to the version of the show that got scrapped.
There very clearly is underlying meaning in DHMIS, but the new series has significantly less than the original. The original had secrets to find, hidden videos and the whole shabang
I just realized something. Red Guy is called “Red Guy” because he’s red. Yellow Guy is called “Yellow Guy” because he’s yellow. The _green_ duck is called “Duck” because green is not a creative colour.
Looking back to now, this is just so interesting and funny to see theory again. Especially with the new series out, this is so different then what it really turned out to be.
He nailed the plot of Clay Hill with the politics thing. But the new series simply didn’t go in that direction. I still say that he is 2/3 on DHMIS because his first theory is also really good and hasn’t been proven wrong yet.
I've just finished watching the new season and I can't wait to see what MatPat makes out of it all. There is a lot to unpack there. A. Lot. So exciting!!!
11:30 “It’s well documented that during the breaks of soap operas or other popular programs power grids in the United Kingdom experience a surge of demand as thousands of people simultaneously put kettles on the stove to make their tea” - No, the power grids surge because thousands of people simultaneously switch on their electric kettles. Nobody has a stovetop kettle when it’s so much slower than an electric one.
At 9:40 with yellow guy and the banjo, I think he has tape over his mouth. Not forcing it closed… but taping them open. Forcing him to speak and have an opinion. Something kids are being presented with more and more today. I would love to see an episode on that.
Yeah, given the prevalence of kids with access to social media / super short attention media / and being "creators" themselves, it would make more sense to explore the effect of overstimulation and mindless participation in the modern cacophony that is the internet.
I love Mat and the crew's interpetation of the small elements and themes in DHMIS, and how Mat is able to draw links and parallels from DHMIS to the real world in an easy to understand way. Im also glad to see a comeback of the series and am excited to see what's in store in September. Love the videos MatPat, keep it up!
It's also key to notice this is being aired on channel 4 - a channel well known for buying popular programmes from other channels and giving them a bigger budget. They do seem to have a busier set after all in the trailer! It'll be interesting to see how they fit the channel 4 ads around it too!

Short version: she claims that all the poor people who weren't singing the Tories' praises were actors.
I didn't know it was back. Just watched the trailer after reading the description of this video, as I thought it was weird to have a new DHMIS theory out of nowhere. I love that MatPat can turn a trailer that is less than a minute into a 15 minute theory. When the actual, full video drops in a couple of months, Mat is going to have to make a trilogy of videos to cover it. Edit: 2 things 1) There wasn't an ad at that point. 2) Why has the avatar of MatPat changed? It's not the one from a decade ago now? It's kinda disheartening.
Another point for the fly being used, during the renaissance some of the Old Masters would paint and flies to show corruption on political leaders, as well as showing the representation of both death and sin. It’s also used to show the rotting or death of the soul.
I relly doubt a British run show, on television in 2022, is going to have anything positive to say about religion and would probably ignore the Renaissance.
Suggestion: The fly thing is because a lot of problems from real life get mixed into kids tv but given a wrong answear that kids end up following, take spongebob, it had a short about global warming and the message ended up being "just go away from it"
Yep. It's for this reason why the power grid has an issue rather than gas supplies too since most houses I'm aware of have gas hobs rather than electric.
I love how "Pesky Bee" was like a third of the the theory based on Duck not knowing what things are, but in the show he literally calls that thing a fly, and the "pesky bee" line was from somewhere else. Basically throws this whole shambles out
So I disagree about the bee. I don’t think it’s commentary about ignoring a problem. I think it’s commentary on gaslighting. Flies and butterflies are not harmful yet bees have the possibility of stinging you. By saying “pesky bee” I believe he is giving a reason for killing the harmless insect.
i agree with this!! i think the butterfly might also represent yellow guy's opinions specifically, since he looks at the butterfly and finds it interesting, but then gets upset when duck guy kills it.
When you made the comparison about the pesky bee I had a bit of an epiphany moment. What you were talking about yellow guy seeing the truth, at first he seen it in a whimsical and fun way, but now recognizes it for what it is. Very interesting
I think this is very interesting as well. Yellow guy at first sees it as a pretty butterfly before seeing it for what it actually is, perhaps symbolizing growing up/expanding your worldview. Red guy sees it for what it is pretty much right away, symbolizing maturity and critical thinking gained over time. Duck is closer to seeing what it truly is than yellow guy is the first time, but he is still wrong and sees it as the exact same thing the second time, perhaps symbolizing a person/group who are set in their ways. He doesn't get any closer to the truth but remains stagnant. Maybe his views are outdated or manipulated by some external force. This could fit with the generational theory I have been seeing floating around a lot, or it could symbolize different types of people/different stages of life in general.
I really hope MatPat realizes that him talking about the series like this and acknowledging how these viewpoints are correct directly contradicts what he said about The Lorax. Like come on MatPat, do you recognize the problem is systemic or do you think we should just “vote with our dollar”, are you genuinely smart or incredibly ignorant? Pick a lane. Unless he’s learned since that last video, in which case, good on him.
I agree with you, except I think he is none of those things. I think he is a marketable youtuber who wants to make content that makes money and doesn't mean anything.
What I really love about the DHMIS series is how the creators respond to fan theories - they said in an interview "they're all correct", which allows endless speculation as opposed to just confirming one theory and stopping it there. It ties in to what the whole series means to me personally, that being the importance of thinking for yourself and not letting anyone hinder your ideas.
So this means my theory about how dhmis is in the same world as sonic the movie and minions : rise of gru with a thousand gaps, contradictions and edgy oc is correct
Something to consider about Duck character, if you go back and rewatch ep 2. If you notice towards the end of ep 2, Duck questions The clock character, asking if time is just human conception we made. And the clock get upset with him, and starts beeping so loud that it makes yellow guys ears start to bleed. It seems that’s the first, and last time time Duck questions anything. And in result of that, yellow guy got hurt from it. Maybe when Duck calls the butterfly, and fly a “pesky bee” he’s not ignoring the problem, but trying to bring up the subject without causing a similar outcome from the Clock episode (yellow guys ears bleeding). I think Duck does want to knowledge a problem, but in a way, it won’t cause undesirable outcomes. Now Red Guy seems to want ignore the issue, with the butterfly, and fly, he’s completely silence, doesn’t say a word or knowledge it when Duck kills both bugs. Duck doing anything (even killing the butterfly/fly) at least shows he see the issue even though he might not completely understand the issue, but red, he almost acts like he can’t see either bug at all, and barley knowledges their presence. I think Duck is dealing with the problems, the only way he knows how. Instead of questioning it like he did an ep 2, he goes straight to just taking out the “issue” head on by smashing the bugs. Duck might feel this is the safer option now, vs questioning it, like he did with The Clock. Either way I feel Duck at least doing anything (even if we believe it to be the wrong move), shows he at least aware of a problem vs Red guy being silent, and unmoving throughout both scenes.
If you look at their faces when the Clock starts beeping you’ll notice, red guy, and Duck put their hands over their ears (almost like they were trying to block out what the clock was saying) but yellow guy (young and naive) didn’t know to cover his ears, and in result heard the “beeping” (wrong information being told) that caused his ears to bleed (damaged caused by being misinformed) Again, I think Duck is aware of that, and now when he sees a new “problem or issue” arise he tries to take it on in a new way, as he knows what kinda of damage he caused to yellow guy, by absentmindedly questioning everything, and everyone. Instead of confronting it, and having the consequences of yellow guy being misinformed again, he tackles the issues without a second thought, just another “pesky bee” in his mind.
It could also be that when duck was just asking a genuine question, the clock felt it as him questioning their authority and started to yell, and duck and red guy are both “adult figures” so they were able to remove themselves from the problem, and yellow guy, representing a more childlike figure, was not able to do so and as a result suffers from it. So maybe all of this is the effect of generational trauma. Idk that’s just my take on it yours is really interesting as well
My interpretation of duck is he’s a older generation, possibly boomer, of politicians and despite it being a newer generation now he still believes the views and politics he grew up with and why he ignores the fly, the problem, yellow guy knows somethings wrong, he’s only just noticed it, but when you’re young and your elders tell you there’s no problem when there clearly is one you ignore it because they did
The fact that Duck calls what it kills a "bee" each time also calls to the idea that politicians would always blame the same thing for all problems
Interesting Theory
(Also yes it's who you think it is lol)

I actually think the new season gave it more depth.

It's both

I also think each character represents an issue or way the media/corporations/adults treats demographics of age
-yellow guy: young people are easy to milk and brainwash
-red guy: the young adults get their messages and ideas stolen
-duck: old people knowledge being seen as worthless or treating old people as expendable/stupid despite their experience

Pesky bee

My thoughts on their roles is:
Duck represents the older generation.
I think the duck is a teenager because he is the only one who doesn’t care about the worlds problems
Duck representing the older generation fits a lot. He wears the old fashion type of suit, he is seen to own a pocket watch in episode 2 time, and reading newspaper is also a older thing.

Nice observations!
Flies harmless? Sure they don't sting but they can transmit many diseases. I would say they're far more harmful than bees.

With the series out I 100% back your interpretation of duck representing the elderly

I like this!

The thing is, McCarthy wasn't actually wrong. He just overreached.
And McCarthy was 100% correct...
ruclips.net/video/AhAzGLb1j40/видео.html&ab_channel=GreeneErnest
@@vallahdsacretor4839 "immigrants that refuse to integrate"

MatPat is not providing definitive explanations of media. The point of these channels is that he’s expressing his opinion on the different shows and games he looks into. In no way does he say that this is fact, he’s just providing his audience with the ideas he takes from it.

Edit: Omg, tysm for all the likes and the fun discussion in the replies!
Tho I have no idea what's really goin on
Maybe everything became so obvious that even he noticed it
I think Duck represents the parents, and that seeing how screwy the lessons were getting in that episode tipped him off and made him realize that things were wrong.
I see it as him trying to hide the problem, not ignoring it
How I interpret it:
Duck: He is taking action against the most immediate problem, but isn't getting that there is a bigger problem associated with it.
That seems right
This seems quite logical, but also simple to me. I think the show runners could do something more subtle and interesting than portraying red guy as "the normal one", since most people will say "they are normal" and "the other ones aren't"
Do you get what I'm trying to say?
That's quite sounding good theory
Just a random thing I noticed; Duck went from the right side of the table to the middle. Yellow guy was the "main focus" of season 1 of dhmis, and he was sitting in the middle. Now Duck is sitting in the middle this could be a clue that Duck is now the "main focus" of season 2. Idk just a random thought.
ruclips.net/video/hEMR154fNpM/видео.html
It’s Finally here
Thats a cool observation!
You're WRONG 😞
This theory doesn't make a lot of sense but maybe we can be disappointed and find out that it's what the creators were actually going for anyways.
@@OdaSwifteye That would be depressingly poorly thought out of them.

Here's another theory, could the Bird swatting the fly indicate at all be a reference to Socrates who talked about himself as being "the gadfly that annoys the horse and must be swatted". As in he's the fly that points out societies problems, and when they swat him they are prompted to act and make changes.
Maybe but even then that is quite a philosophical reach with few clues pointing to it. Still cool!!!
This take is my favorite so far.
i love this idea
@@ObsessiveSting Lol "reach with few clues pointing to it" is the foundation that Film Theory was based on!
The fact that I started watching this as a kid and now I’m an adult proves how patient the fandom is.

There's a pattern when Duck goes from talking normal to hard auto-tuned in the series.
when he follows the script, he talks ok. but when he goes off script and questioning what happens, his voice sounds broken, like he goes against some programming inside him.
Or they try to distort his opinions so even he has to confirm to the program's agenda.

Looking back to now, this is just so interesting and funny to see theory again. Especially with the new series out, this is so different then what it really turned out to be.
Yeah, we were all expecting ClayHill and Politics and stuff, but the series is still Gold.
I wasn't expecting him to be right at all bc ALL HIS DHMIS theories are SUPER flawed
yup. but, hey, good show though.
He nailed the plot of Clay Hill with the politics thing. But the new series simply didn’t go in that direction. I still say that he is 2/3 on DHMIS because his first theory is also really good and hasn’t been proven wrong yet.
@@LandingRough im so glad the didnt start adding politics and current events, really wouldve been messy

I’m so glad someone pointed that out, it really distracted me, knowing that in the uk we use electric kettles!

Got so confused when he said on the stove.

Edit: 2 things
1) There wasn't an ad at that point.
2) Why has the avatar of MatPat changed? It's not the one from a decade ago now? It's kinda disheartening.

Just as a heads up, (at time of writing,) It's airing on TV, only in the UK, not on RUclips.

The fly thing is because a lot of problems from real life get mixed into kids tv but given a wrong answear that kids end up following, take spongebob, it had a short about global warming and the message ended up being "just go away from it"

Thank you, I've only ever seen one kettle on a stove in this country 🤣🤣

Basically throws this whole shambles out
Wow, it's been a while since I last heard from this series, figured it was done.
Nice to see another theory on it.
MatPat is a brain burner!(Правдивое видео🇷🇺):..........ruclips.net/video/hLOpm9gBM_8/видео.html
I'm sorry for your loss. This reply list was dead before it lived
Flies harmless? Sure they don't sting but they can transmit many diseases. I would say they're far more harmful than bees.
I like this a lot
Well I mean.. flies are harmful. They carry diseases
Oh this is really good
When you made the comparison about the pesky bee I had a bit of an epiphany moment. What you were talking about yellow guy seeing the truth, at first he seen it in a whimsical and fun way, but now recognizes it for what it is. Very interesting
ruclips.net/video/hEMR154fNpM/видео.html
It’s Finally here
I think this is very interesting as well.
Finally it's here:
ruclips.net/video/iik25wqIuFo/видео.html
@@jeanremi8384 no pls no
Everything is correct technically means that, since some theories are bound to contradict each other, that none of them are correct as well.
If you look at their faces when the Clock starts beeping you’ll notice, red guy, and Duck put their hands over their ears (almost like they were trying to block out what the clock was saying) but yellow guy (young and naive) didn’t know to cover his ears, and in result heard the “beeping” (wrong information being told) that caused his ears to bleed (damaged caused by being misinformed)
Again, I think Duck is aware of that, and now when he sees a new “problem or issue” arise he tries to take it on in a new way, as he knows what kinda of damage he caused to yellow guy, by absentmindedly questioning everything, and everyone.
Instead of confronting it, and having the consequences of yellow guy being misinformed again, he tackles the issues without a second thought, just another “pesky bee” in his mind.
@@day539 I feel like he tackles the issue less and more of a symptom of the issue
Idk that’s just my take on it yours is really interesting as well
My interpretation of duck is he’s a older generation, possibly boomer, of politicians and despite it being a newer generation now he still believes the views and politics he grew up with and why he ignores the fly, the problem, yellow guy knows somethings wrong, he’s only just noticed it, but when you’re young and your elders tell you there’s no problem when there clearly is one you ignore it because they did
let's be honest we all enjoyed the video because of this:
