@@fixinitsame thing happened to me lmao, luckily if you are in a jam and can’t get the oem socket, go to harbor freight they have a spline socket set with the same 17 mm spline socket, just not as quality but will get the job done
Damn and I had my mind on a S550 from 2012, the job itself looks way different from a regular job considering the electronic sensor for the brake pad wear. But good video btw
@@fixinit lol..ok I just heard him say that about the sensor on one side..I only took off the driver's side tire and there was no sensor. I ordered 4 sensors in a pack thinking it had sensors on all four calipers..guess I have extra..

I like it cls550 2007 I'm just learning to work on it. I'm 59 and can't keep paying when I like to work on my own car but worried about getting the right tools I need just what you did done. Look like I can do it. Work on my other car but worried about doing it with this car what are the tools you used
jmfjr1011 Not really hard to do. Check out the video description to see the links for the tools you need. Basically a ratchet wrench and socket, screwdrivers, torx bit socket, hammer, something to knock the pins out, brake cleaner. I forget what else. 😎
@@fixinit I bought front and back pads and sensors from the dealership for $200 out the door. I've done brake pads and rotors before on older cars in the 80's but watched your video and it looks no different, so dealership must be taking advantage of people on this job.
@@fixinit Looking at the dealers estimate, they're trying to charge $378 for labor on front and $378 labor for back and they're charging double on the price for all the pads and sensors than what they charge at their own parts counter. Thanks, hopefully your video and all these comments will help people save some money.
I changed my pads on my S550 also, the guy who paid 154.00 for the parts should be criminal 😊 finding parts for cheap is very hard, that's the part I always end up spending big on. I will have to do some extensive researching because for the disk I spent 334.00 for both front brake disk.
@@fixinit lol thanks, going the cheaper route will give cheap results I see, I'll have to stick to eating the cost instead of having crappy results for cheaper cost. It's amazing the cost you can save by doing it yourself. For funs I asked the Mercedes dealership the cost of front and rear pad replacement and the told me 1200.00 just for the pad replacement..
Need to use a "Roloc" or wire wheel on the hub before installing new rotors. This is to control disc run-out. A dial meter indicator measures variations in the rotor as it is turned. Typically R-O should not exceed 0.002 inches (I don't know the spec for MB S550, but the number is very small). R-O causes the disc to "wobble" which can be felt on the brake pedal. Basically causes poor braking.
It's designed that way. The pad doesn't cover the whole rotor. That way when your rotor is out of specification. It will make a squeaking noise letting you know its time for new rotors
One of the best and well documented how-to videos!! Great job!!!
Believe it or not a regular 17mm takes the lug nuts off. No problem I have done it tons of times works just fine 🤗 Great video btw
We tried a 17mm on this car, but the lugs nuts were so tight we were destroying them trying to get them off. The owner just bought the socket.
I have another one too take it off easy
But great video thanks

Thanks. It’s really not a hard job, it just looks different because of the Brembo brakes. That sensor just pops in and out.
Thanks bro. Are those OEM parts or refurbished?
Not OEM. They are new aftermarket parts.
What size wrench i need to take the screw out on the front rotors
T30 Torx
Thanks
Did you disconnect the battery to stop the SBC control unit from engaging the caliper pistons?
Great attitude and video BTW. Thanks.....
Didn’t disconnect the battery.
To the best of my knowledge, W221 (S class) does not come with SBC but the W211 (e class) did
Good video thank you.
2011 w221 mine didn't have break sensors..is that normal?
yasoutherncousin They should have them on one side, I think the passenger side.

What brand pads+rotors did you use? Excellent video.
Thanks. My friend bought Callahan Brakes. There's a link in the video description. amzn.to/3lDubfC
@@fixinit Oo thanks for the info. I opted for Textar rotors and Textar E-Pads due to shipping and availability.

Need those part numbers please
There’s a couple of links in the video description.
You should clean the wheel hub with a wire brush to eliminate the rotor sticking to the hub 😅 Less tire kickin' next time 🤭
Yes. I put a note about that in the video description. I forgot to show that part on the video. 😎.
$2800 that’s a rip off and the job is easy asf
Did you experience any problems after doing this brake job? Dealer wants $1000 to do front and back brakes which makes me think its complicated.
Not hard. I would get good quality brake pads and rotors. The ones we used on the video are not the best.

Those rotors are the wrong diameter for this car. That is the reason for the premature wear and lip on the outer edge of the brake pads.
Anthony Mahas You are probably correct. I don’t know who did the job last time and I didn’t buy the new parts, just installed them.

Never use aftermarket rotors on ur Mercedes there not the correct size as oem and they have less stopping power and vibration.
