I bet LG had some people that don't understand Western culture and were throwing money at reviewers to take a preferential direction, instead of figuring out how to communicate. It's good they've shuffled staff. What a nightmare!

"Western" culture is not the one above all in morality. There are many so called Western companies like HP, Dell in computer industry, Shell, GM , Volkswagen who have done far worse to people who pointed out flaws in their products or practices. Also, Australia is in the eastern hemisphere

@Hardware Unboxed, WOW. Thank you so much for the non filtered(not listening to LG’s review request) and for the extremely detailed and helpful input. I just got a 3080Ti FTW3 Ultra card and need a monitor that holds up well to testing and perfect for my competitive play style in first person shooters. By far the most helpful and explanatory (with results to show) video I’ve seen on gaming monitors and I’ve been looking deeply into the 32GP850 1440p and was just about to purchase. Glad I found you. Thanks again mate!
I just bought this thing two days ago, and it's absolutely amazing! It is so buttery smooth quick. And I'm only running an rtx 2060. I mainly play pubg and I'm getting 120-150fps which is completely fine for me
Great news! I have a 2070 super and I've had an eye on this for a while now but I'm playing New World and unfortunately my fps are at around 50 In the towns lol. Was try to decide between this and the acer preditor xb323u and I think this is the one I want.
@@ezzyMODE well fps is from your hardware and the monitor can provide up to 165hz, so if you can run games at higher frames than 165 then you’d want a faster monitor. So In turn this monitor would be ideal for what frames I can push :)
Why would LG try to do this when their monitors are already great overall ? It just shows the team that communicated to HU have never seen past reviews or the products they sell themselves. Having engineers in the PR team would actually help since most of the tech today is too advanced for these non tech PR guys who have no idea what's the difference between the previous and present products. Having engineers on board the PR team would help with "realistic" expectations from product reviews.
The PR team was from a different company. Still owned by LG, but a different sub-company. So they have no display engineers, because all they do is PR.
LG monitors are awesome. Never had a problem with quality from them, and i had over 10 for personal use and hundreds in my company for my employees. Always got IPS models, they are fast for gamming, great colors, nothing to complain. As technology progressed, so did them. I'm still baffled as to why they felt the need to influence and hide things from the customers, there's simply no need for that. The only conclusion i can come up with is realy poor management from the people who thought it would be a good idea to show more results and better pay bonus.
Nothing to be worried about?, but compared to the same Monitors from other brands like Asus and Acer this Monitor has bad Timings, horrible contrast ratio and horrible problems with Motion Blur reduction because of there nano ips Panels, seen on this and on dell monitors too who are using LGs Panels. But yea, beside that, there is nothing to worrie about, lol
@@kizuda6943 Im referring to LG creating a complete PR nightmare for themselves. Their actions made it out like they were trying to hide something incredibly heinous. But no, the contrast, color, red ghost smearing etc isn't absolutely "1337" tier mind blowing cum in my pants. Big deal. Its still a good monitor.
Suggestion for a graphical improvement. In the response time chart, the color ranges seem to be hard-coded to specific response times, rather than scaled to the response window available in the monitor refresh rate when looking at variable refresh rate performance. From my POV it would make more sense to have any value that comes in below the Refresh Window to be on the greenish side of yellow, and above the refresh window to be on the yellow/orange/red scale. As an example, looking at the 120 Hz normal mode chart about 6:53, the refresh window is 8.33 ms, but many values under 8 ms are colored orange in the response time chart, which could lead more visually-oriented viewers to think that the response time was unacceptable for those transitions.
Excited to hear that they are indeed implementing changes to how they work with reviewers. You guys seem to have handled the whole situation well and facilitated positive change. Nice work!

I don't normally watch monitor reviews, but decided to watch this one if only to see the obvious punch line to this whole story. You did not disappoint.
I bought this LG 32GP850 monitor before this review came out. I have found no flaws with it. In fact, I love that it auto-switches signal inputs between 3 different PCs (1 DP, 2 HDMI), and the G-Sync works great with the RTX 3070 Ti graphics card on the DP input.

Oops, LG did it again They paid hardware unboxed, got lost in the game Oh baby, baby Oops, you think LG is in love That is sent from above They are not that innocent
I dont think that the whole company "LG" has an evil mentality of buying reviews. I think it is more the actions of one or some inexperienced employees that did not know what things appropriate and which are not (like paying for testing in a certain way). But still I strongly support exposing these things because that will stop other companies from trying to do the same.
I'll always appreciate that Hardware Unboxed keeps their reviews 100% honest, to the point where even a pretty awful marketing practice of trying to control the reviewing process doesn't affect Hardware Unboxed's opinion on the product.
So, this is the monitor it was all about. Honestly, if it did not had all this review drag behind it thanks to LG, it would actually have been a pretty decent monitor.
Excellent review Tim. LG if you are reading any of this, please continue your business relationship with Hardware Unboxed, I only trust some reviewers (like these ones) when it comes to product purchases. I never go by what the product maker and their marketing says, never.
Well I didn't buy an LG, I bought a reconditioned Asus 32" one instead, one a class up on my intended model. So many companies have transgressed corrupting reviews, the white list is shrinking. Those who genuinely reform do need to be forgiven.

It is great that you are emphasising the need for a good sRGB emulation mode for wide gamut displays. Please keep putting pressure on manufacturers to implement them without unnecessary limitations like disabling white point corrections, etc. And please point out the use of BGR panels. Gigabyte's M27Q is near perfect but has a BGR subpixel layout which completely rules it out for me (as I need clear text, regardless of whether or not an application supports ClearType).
A. The marketing was a request not an instruction. B. I got 100% sRGB color gamut out of mine after calibration. Pretty impressed with this monitor at $350 when on sale. I have the VA version and wanted to try IPS but didn't want to mix and match panel sizes.

in my country the 27GP850 cost around 600 Euros but i can buy it in germany for around 450 Eruos on amazon (which doesnt add tax fees) and the 32GP850 isnt currently available as far as i can see on Amazon but in my country i can get the 32GP850 for 50 euros more (650 euros in total) than the 27GP850 and the M32Q cost basically the same as the 32GP850 both on amazon and in my country (650 euros roughly) so in my eyes the 27GP850 is the clear winner :)
Got this monitor and have no complaints besides that it maybe doesn't get very bright. 32 inch definitely was the right choice for me, i get a very smooth and immersive gaming experience.
One thing I'd have liked you to mention in monitor reviews is IF they are capable of auto-switching the video input for people that uses more than one device (Gaming PC, enterprise laptop, gaming console...). I say this because I bought last year the LG 27GL-850 because of your review, and I am happy overall with it, but after the first month of manually switching the video input from my PC to my enterprise laptop and vice versa every single day I began to regret my purchase. I didn't check if it was compatible with this feature because I took for granted that such a pricey monitor would support such a basic feature, but in fact it does not.
I bought this monitor for 399€. I am pretty happy with is so far. Colors are a bit oversaturated. Although, I have been using this monitors for few days now and when I tried to adjust colors to be more natural, I ended up getting more natural colors, but still decided to go back to oversaturated colors. Games just looks better with these and I am not doing any color editing. Nothing bad comes to mind at this point. Maybe it could power up faster, because my 8 year old second monitor powers up faster than this. Although, this was also the case with Samsung monitor I tried earlier and ended up returning.
Well, now LG has to deal with the "Streisand effect". What would have just been a review of a decent monitor is now getting people suspicious because of how they've acted and tried to control the review process.
I am a public school teacher from Utah, I have enjoyed your reviews for several years. Thank you guys for all you do. I enjoyed this review as well. I doubt I would have spend that amount of my money if you guys would not recommend certain models and brands. Very happy with my Samsung G7 and my HP Omen x27 ;) thank you Hardware Unboxed for everything you do! You guys rock! And I am looking forward to future reviews and recommendations.
I bet LG had some people that don't understand Western culture and were throwing money at reviewers to take a preferential direction, instead of figuring out how to communicate. It's good they've shuffled staff. What a nightmare!
Love to hear that they most probably lost their jobs or were degraded. Seriously, I'm sick and tired of this nowadays trend of higher echelons dickatry and absolute idiocy. One can't find fine job without struggling with their retarded approach to business in my country!
Edit: embarassing grammar mistakes
"Western" culture is not the one above all in morality. There are many so called Western companies like HP, Dell in computer industry, Shell, GM , Volkswagen who have done far worse to people who pointed out flaws in their products or practices. Also, Australia is in the eastern hemisphere
Wherever you are reviewers are paid to take a preferential position. The popular tech youtubers include the negatives of products which is good, but they still rely on the companies providing them with free products. Sponsorships are shady everywhere in the world, borderline lying about things (I love this game, I use this all the time, etc.)
It's charming how you think Western culture isn't entirely based on corruption and coercion bless you sweet summer child.
@@kesamek8537 well not entirely, many “western” countries have free speech and internet, unlike many other countries
You guys are just amazing. I love that despite LG being dicks, you guys high road them, stick to your review model, and in the end.... still point out the advantages and flaws just like you always do. Props to you guys!~
LG's response is appropriate.
HU's review is also appropriate.
The monitor itself is appropriate.
It is only appropriate to forgive LG for this incident, as it does not seem to be intentional.
Imagine how positive the review would be if HUB took a bribe. Would the monitor change our lives forever, grant us wishes... make us a sandwich?
Love the title and the thumbnail. 😊
Your integrity and honesty with us consumers is your greatest asset, never change that. The world needs more impartial people like you guys.
❤️
@Hardware Unboxed, WOW. Thank you so much for the non filtered(not listening to LG’s review request) and for the extremely detailed and helpful input. I just got a 3080Ti FTW3 Ultra card and need a monitor that holds up well to testing and perfect for my competitive play style in first person shooters. By far the most helpful and explanatory (with results to show) video I’ve seen on gaming monitors and I’ve been looking deeply into the 32GP850 1440p and was just about to purchase. Glad I found you. Thanks again mate!
Did you get the 32"or the 27"?
I just bought this thing two days ago, and it's absolutely amazing! It is so buttery smooth quick. And I'm only running an rtx 2060. I mainly play pubg and I'm getting 120-150fps which is completely fine for me
Great news! I have a 2070 super and I've had an eye on this for a while now but I'm playing New World and unfortunately my fps are at around 50 In the towns lol. Was try to decide between this and the acer preditor xb323u and I think this is the one I want.
Should it be giving you 165hz since This is a 165hz monitor?
@@ezzyMODE well fps is from your hardware and the monitor can provide up to 165hz, so if you can run games at higher frames than 165 then you’d want a faster monitor. So In turn this monitor would be ideal for what frames I can push :)
Great work guys on the review...and the quality of channel.
After all these years of watching I still come back to these old videos for the glorious handle bar mustache 😂😂
I am so glad I got my MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD.... Best all around performance IMO!
So after all that, there was nothing to be worried about. Amazing lol
@@nismofreak33 good that we dont have the same terms of what is called good and bad, lol. Maybe just expectations of different worlds.
I bought a lg 27gl850 nano about 9 months ago and have had good luck with it. Great balance of quality/price imo.
Rubs hands, come at them Mr. Moustache!
I'm just seeing this video now and dude mad respect for you. You've just earned yourself a life long subscriber
And thats why we love this channel - 100% honest and transparent reviews.. FU LG , FU Nvidia :)
@jparkerwillis the lord Johnny sins shall cast it
@jparkerwillis When it comes to decieving people Hardware Unboxed is sin-free !
Nice work!
I recently got the LG 27GP850. So far so good. It replaced my original LG 27GL850. Let it be clear that I wanted the higher refresh rate and gave my fiance the previous model now we both have quality monitors to game on. Im using a 3080 and she is on a 3070.
I don't normally watch monitor reviews, but decided to watch this one if only to see the obvious punch line to this whole story.
You did not disappoint.
I have an LG tv I bought back in 2008, its a 50" and it still runs strong to this day, it still looks good too! Shes got some thiccc bezels though!
It would be funny to see something like a LG CX/C1 48" OLED "Monitor" as a comparision....with
Smashing review, best I ever saw on your channel. Not because of the content necessarily, but the very publication of it is very important.
The fact that their guidelines didn't even make a difference compared to your regular review process results makes me wonder... *why did they bother?*
How does text look on this screen, I do a lot of work in word? Thank you!
@@zero15388 text is crisp, but then again, I am running Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti graphics cards via DisplayPort.
Does the monitor have a big glow effect?
@@turtle96025 If it does, I may have turned it off in the settings. I don't care for RGB lighting or glow effects. All my PCs are dark builds.
@@l.i.archer5379 Is this monitor worth considering for purchase or does it have significant problems?
Still can't get over how incompetent the person you were conversing with was. Wonder where they work now.
im going to buy the LG UltraGear 32GP850-B on black friday 2024
already looking forward to it and can´t wait,..
seems a pretty good monitor, I think LG kinda shot themselves in the foot by trying to force people not to use their product the way they want... they should not take hints from apple...
It's on sale rn for only 300€ while all other slightly better monitors from this review are between 700€ and 1100€?? I'm definitely gonna buy it now

They failed on the smartphone, hopefully they don't fail because of morality.
Hope they concentrate more on their monitors
they just want to hire Hardware Unboxed as their employee duhhh
Ahh man their phones are great. Typing on my lg v50 and its wonderful. Best phone i have ever owned even compared to my iphone 11 galaxy s20 or xiaomi
No,but it was because of the same department, marketing.
This thorough process review is much appreciated, thank you.
Do they not understand that you guys can buy most hardware to review?
Oops, LG did it again
They paid hardware unboxed, got lost in the game
Oh baby, baby
Oops, you think LG is in love
That is sent from above
They are not that innocent
I dont think that the whole company "LG" has an evil mentality of buying reviews. I think it is more the actions of one or some inexperienced employees that did not know what things appropriate and which are not (like paying for testing in a certain way).
But still I strongly support exposing these things because that will stop other companies from trying to do the same.
Aka Corporate drones (not proper employees)
@Hardware Unboxed
Thanks for standing your ground and giving us true/real reviews. That's is what we wand/need.
Seems like a generally good review for LG.... Too bad LG smeared themselves trying to pay you guys off.
Keep doing what you are doing, we support you Hardware Unboxed!
I still can't get over the 32" hype. Sometimes I feel uncomfortable on my 27" Monitor while gaming already.
Yeah I tried a 28" 4k monitor. Too big for desktop up close IMO
I though 24 inch was small until i put one on my table...
These monitors are for people with narrow table
Yet now my monitor is now 48 inches, haha
Using an LG 32inch 1440p. It's amazing and very immersive.
I have a 27inch in portrait next to it. Some people just like it mate.
People be different
I had a 27inch 2k Acer Predator upgraded to 32inch. Lg ultraGear 32 IpS love it smooth only thing I don't like it can't move left/right
Great that you stuck to your guns. Too much curruption in Australia at the mo.
LG is not an australian company...
I'm so happy to hear they'll be changing things up, thanks for keeping the tech review space safer for consumers!
Out of all monitors i love this one the most actually: BenQ XL2546K. I watched a video from OptimumTech and i was really impressed.
I'd love to see hardware unboxed's review on it
I'll always appreciate that Hardware Unboxed keeps their reviews 100% honest, to the point where even a pretty awful marketing practice of trying to control the reviewing process doesn't affect Hardware Unboxed's opinion on the product.
So, this is the monitor it was all about.
Honestly, if it did not had all this review drag behind it thanks to LG, it would actually have been a pretty decent monitor.
buy the product, not the brand
No wonder it's weird that I can't find this review anywhere
This is the forbidden review about the monitor that shall not be named.
I am so glad I watched this video. Your information has provided me immense value. Thank you!
They always have good monitors, so I dont get why there is a need to suppress reviewers. Marketing people are silly
Ayyyy, the review we've all been waiting for!!!
I dont get it. Lg makes good products. Why are they acting like a holes. It would be like you order dinner and love it but right before you go to leave a tip your waiter comes and says if you dont leave me a tip I will break your kneecaps. Like things would of worked out great if you just acted like a normal person
Korean culture.
Language Barrier, greedy "external" marketing department...
@@Zetraxes that (or rather asian mentality) and people involved being normies who usually work with "influencers".
(now I'll go and wash my hands after writing this word)
For sugar coating ?like fuck samsung get this it's best ... Type of marketing
Plot Twist: LG deliberately "controlled" the review to stir up controversy and publicity.
uhh
@Lungho I assume he's just joking, I see these jokes on RUclips all the time.
A. The marketing was a request not an instruction. B. I got 100% sRGB color gamut out of mine after calibration.
Pretty impressed with this monitor at $350 when on sale. I have the VA version and wanted to try IPS but didn't want to mix and match panel sizes.
LG nanocell screens have terrible black levels/contrast.
Sad. But true
I've been looking forward to this.
Again? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
LGs PHILOSOPHY is the issue here! It will not change as long as the whole staff isnt changed out
Did you watch the video?!
Johno yes i did, iam following the company for yeads, dont worry my friend. Although i have to say that even LGs philosophy is way better than Samsungs but thats a diffotopic
It’s a great monitor, got it nearly after release the 83b version at best buy, and absolutely love it.
I just picked this one up open box great deal on it what the best setting for it?
There really is no good company out there
a company has individuals that don't always make the best decisions.
in my country the 27GP850 cost around 600 Euros but i can buy it in germany for around 450 Eruos on amazon (which doesnt add tax fees) and the 32GP850 isnt currently available as far as i can see on Amazon but in my country i can get the 32GP850 for 50 euros more (650 euros in total) than the 27GP850 and the M32Q cost basically the same as the 32GP850 both on amazon and in my country (650 euros roughly) so in my eyes the 27GP850 is the clear winner :)

GDI. I missed just by 50seconds
Got this monitor and have no complaints besides that it maybe doesn't get very bright. 32 inch definitely was the right choice for me, i get a very smooth and immersive gaming experience.
The contrast is way to low for Ghost Of Thushima... I'm gonna buy a G7 too
One thing I'd have liked you to mention in monitor reviews is IF they are capable of auto-switching the video input for people that uses more than one device (Gaming PC, enterprise laptop, gaming console...).
Thank you. Was waiting for this waaaaay to long :) (Thanks LG) :P
This was a great video. My Dell S3422DWG just died out of nowhere today so I've been looking for a replacement.
The marketing department owe the engineering department an apology
Well, now LG has to deal with the "Streisand effect". What would have just been a review of a decent monitor is now getting people suspicious because of how they've acted and tried to control the review process.
LG: tries to manipulate HUB so Tim give 'em some slack
Tim: scrutinizes even harder
Dat's the spirit!
Always good to remember this when considering monitors.
I am a public school teacher from Utah, I have enjoyed your reviews for several years. Thank you guys for all you do. I enjoyed this review as well. I was hoping you would find something wrong as well, lol. I am hoping to find a 4K monitor in that price range that has a 120hz refresh rate.... Also, I am curious have you heard of the IceGiant Air Cooler, if so, I would love to see you do a review of it on non-threadripper parts, especially overclocked Ryzen 5000 CPU's like 5900 and 5950's
are the comparison tables posted somewhere? would be cool to have a permanent top 50 of the channel always shown and updated
i was able to get the monitor for 550cad/440usd and the monitor is amazing, i truly love the monitor. used to rock a benq xl2730z with a pretty bad tn color. this is such a nice upgrade
Tim also show us ips glow and bleeding test picture of the monitor in the dark room, its simple missing from ur review.
