Hi Tim! Great video as always. Would it be possible for you to review the Lenovo G27Q-20 and/or HP X27i? Both displays have 1440p high refresh rate panels and at US$300, the monitors are pretty appealing entry-level options.
Hi, I cannot find this monitor anywhere, not even on LG's own website. There is only a 27GL83A-B Can you maybe make a video explaining LGs naming and if they are year related. I always get confused, there are the GN, GL , GP models but there is no clear distinction.
Another year, another 850/83 combo 😊 I played the game last year of getting the GL83A at a reasonable price then, in August this year, getting a GL850 cheaper than I'd paid for the 83A due to the newer 165hz models coming out. Give it a couple of years and I'll probably be playing this game with the 4k/144hz (or whatever is current) models
I understand that the GL 83a has a normal color gamut as opposed to the wide gamut of the 850. Some like this and some do not. What are your experiences with the responsiveness between the two? Supposedly the nano is slightly faster than the GL. Is it noticeable to your eye or only in tests? Current gl83a owner and OCD monitor buyer 😎
After watching and reading a bunch of different reviews about 1440p 144Hz budget monitors, I finally settled on the LG 27GL83A-B thanks to your review. The monitor currently sells for $299.99 USD on Amazon, which makes it a tremendous value. Anyway, thanks again.
The 850 one is on sale for 399 at best buy right now. I bought one for that price last time it was on sale a few months ago, might just cop a second one right now
How many variants of the same panel do they wanna do? I got them all, and to be honest the oldest one (GL850) still has the best anti-glare coating (good reduction of reflections, whilst not making the image grainy) and otherwise absolutely identical behavior, except for the few hz overclocked refresh rate, where 144 is really enough already.
I recently (early September) bought a 2nd GL850 on sale and was shocked at how poor the factory color calibration was, it has an extreme yellow tint and overall dullness compared to the GL850 I bought in 2019 when it was new. I guess I got what I payed for since it was on sale for under 350 USD.
got one used a year ago for 150, and I'm extremely happy with it! I love the piece of mind that lcd displays provide with no burn in. The display will allow manual overclocking up to 175 Hz before it says "out of range" too!
I have this monitor and it's really good for the price :). How much is it going for, where you live? Honestly if you want to cheap 1440p monitor just go for it. I have no complains, besides the typical minor light bleed around corners in dark scenes especially if my room is dark, but it's very typical for ips monitors and ofc you can always return it if you dont like.
LG 32GP850 minimum 67 nits? No wonder my eyes are burning at night. Still a wonderful monitor that i got for cheaper than the 27" ver and the MSI&Gigabyte monitors.
One thing practically all these reviews miss is the variable refresh rate min threshold. True G-sync is 1-max Hz. G-sync compatible usually varies from 30-60 Hz. This one is 60 hz. You generally want that to be as low as possible.
Kinda weird, considering you actually have to own a GPU that can push 165+ fps at 1440p. For your average AAA title like CoD or BF, you'd need a high end GPU to output these frames at good visual quality.
tell me about it. my Acer x34 with its 100hz (this is the original model, not the refreshed one that can go to 180hz), starting to show its age, when a "value" monitor is better in every single way...
I got Dell S2721DGF on a big discount and I'm very happy with it. I also won the backlight and dead pixels lottery with that Dell so that makes it even sweeter purchase. This seems like a similar monitor (considering they use the same panel) but it is more expensive than Dell so no regrets on my side.
I've been watching some monitor reviews the past days and I'm still confused regarding colour gamut. From what I understand most applications which aren't content creation only use the standard sRGB colour range, correct? So is there any use for a high gamut monitor in everyday browsing and gaming or does it make more sense to buy a monitor based on the quality of the included SDR mode? I remember that some monitors lock down almost all settings in this mode while others can be configured more freely.
Yes the sRGB mode is one of the most important things if you do value accurate colours for gaming or any other content consumption. You can get around it with ICC profiles and using borderless window modes but yeah, fullscreen exclusive is almost always the preferable option. So I guess having crappy sRGB mode doesn't really matter if you primarily play competitive / e-sports or if you simply like the more contrasty oversatured look of content, it's especially becoming more important now as even average screens have pretty high gamut.
Can avoid this problem by buying the 27gl83a. It might be slightly less responsive than the "nano" but it has the normal color gamut, and still rated as a fast monitor
I got this over the 850b. Both are around $300 right now. But it's a little harder to find the 850b over the 835b. I was hesitant for a few reasons, the picture quality from the 850b i owned were wonderful. Also, the red on the front of the stand shows.. not a big fan of red
Great review; as always ! Could you please tell us the settings you ended up with after calibration ? Just bought it and I went 44-44-46 RGB, between 25-30 brightness, Gamer mode 1, fast response time....What about you guys ?
Picked up this monitor on sale for $229 USD. Compared to other offerings in my budget (sub $300), this seemed like the best option. While I do typically play games in darker settings, I haven't really noticed the low contrast being an issue. It's possible that later units are hitting better contrast numbers. However, I do primarily use to play FPS titles like R6 Siege or Valorant, making the response times perfect for this.
Aside from their media relations snafu, LG has absolutely killed it this year. Between delivering an exceptional product for every budget and actually having stock for their products, there's not really any holes in their lineups, aside from the 42 inch OLED not existing yet.
Interesting note, the previously reviewed MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD, not on these lists, has fallen in price to around $420us, and the non QD model is down to $380-$400. May possibly be a better choice.
These manufacturers really need to come up with better names for these things... (granted, knowing the letters can help decipher size and color but still)
Awesome job as ever, Love your content. I have been thinking about this for quite some time and finally am asking it. Why do you not show how colour calibration of a monitor is/should be done? A tutorial perhaps for the curious among us to have a better understanding and for the few who are lucky to get their hands on hardware to calibrate the monitor. Thank you.
I've been itching to upgrade from my 1080p 75Hz IPS panel to a 1440p one with higher refresh, so this one tempts me slightly, but I've been spoiled by 34 inches of ultrawide real estate.
The monitors you review are rarely ever listed for sale anywhere. Take this one for example....no listing on Amazon even with your link. The only one listed is LG 32GP850-B. Nothing on Amazon, nothing on Newegg.
Why have your results changed on the s2721dgf since a year ago? Did you review another sample or change your testing methods? Average gray to gray went from 3.96ms and 10.5% now to 5.54 and 18%. Also total input lag went from 6.9 to 8.9ms
Ok since no one has chimed in I did some research to find out why the change. At the beginning of this year Hardware Unboxed changed its testing methods to have a larger percentage of the overall response time of each transition. They had a video on this at the beginning of the year I guess I missed that one. A good video if you like to need out on how monitors are tested and how they have improved there testing methodology. All monitors had an increase with no real change in placement on the charts.

I am literally in love with this monitor, initially I had a TN panel, went to a VA panel with nice visuals but the black smearing and what looked like blur in dark areas was far too distracting, like I couldn't stop fixating on the problem areas, and so I returned that and picked this baby up and WOW - seems pretty close to VA, at least for me, without any of the problems, AT ALL, if you are thinking about getting this monitor, don't - if you can afford it, pick it up, you will not regret it.
Facts, This monitor is sick for what it can do and its a nano ips which he didnt mentioned but the VA black smearing can be extremely annoying and to the colors on TN and VA look off after looking at a ips panel. For gaming and photoshop, IPS is the way to go

I've been waiting to see your tests on this one thank you 😊
I found this monitor priced at $350 thanks for the great review! No real reason to buy the more expensive version thank you def the best monitor reviewer
The 850 has the RGB in the back tho 😅 that’s worth a thousand dollars
There is only a 27GL83A-B
Can you maybe make a video explaining LGs naming and if they are year related. I always get confused, there are the GN, GL , GP models but there is no clear distinction.
Every year they increase and skip a letter. GL is 2019, GN is 2020, GP is 2021 models.
It’s available at Best Buy

Please please please, review the new 34GP950G! I'm waiting for your review to buy it! I cannot buy a monitor without your approval.
269 now
@@121Stefany Shortly after my original post, I bought the 32-inch version for $229.99 USD at Costco. I returned the 27-inch model unopened to Amazon.
This isnt LCD display though. Its led
@@mikebluee LED displays are lcd. They just use an LED backlight instead of the fluorescent backlights the old LCD's used to use. Hope this helps
@alexfischer9493 oh thanks. I'm still learning about computers

Another great review! I'd love to see you guys review the Lenovo G27Q-20 :D
I just bought the 32inch version would love to see you guys review that
32gp83b
I don’t understand why I can’t find this monitor anywhere. No sight of it on Amazon at all
Nice review. As others have mentioned, I kept looking for the MSI MAG274QRF -QD in the comparisons.
I recently upgraded from a 1080p TV to the 27GL83A and absolutely love it
Cool
One thing practically all these reviews miss is the variable refresh rate min threshold. True G-sync is 1-max Hz. G-sync compatible usually varies from 30-60 Hz. This one is 60 hz. You generally want that to be as low as possible.
Is it better on the GP850?
welcome to 2021 where 165Hz is just "Medium" refresh rate now
with 240 and 360 hz monitors, yeah pretty much
Kinda weird, considering you actually have to own a GPU that can push 165+ fps at 1440p.
For your average AAA title like CoD or BF, you'd need a high end GPU to output these frames at good visual quality.
@@levoGAMES Not at all even my rx 6800 can do 144fps at 3440*1440 ultrawide in warzone
tell me about it. my Acer x34 with its 100hz (this is the original model, not the refreshed one that can go to 180hz), starting to show its age, when a "value" monitor is better in every single way...
it's a strange term that i've only heard tim use, but he's technically right
I got Dell S2721DGF on a big discount and I'm very happy with it. I also won the backlight and dead pixels lottery with that Dell so that makes it even sweeter purchase. This seems like a similar monitor (considering they use the same panel) but it is more expensive than Dell so no regrets on my side.
i’ve tried both, the LG is just better IMO. Just looks better
I brought the bigger brother 27GP850, for 450 dollars it is a great value, would've brought the 4K GP950 but that is unobtainium and double the price.
@@Nikelangelo So is the same, better than the Dell SG2721 monitor?
Can avoid this problem by buying the 27gl83a. It might be slightly less responsive than the "nano" but it has the normal color gamut, and still rated as a fast monitor

Thank you I love mine went 27inch for my PC and series X . Great info much appreciated
LG is doing great. Love my LG27GN850
Well, it's officially coming this year!
I would love to see reviews of Dell monitors, your monitor reviews are my favorite 😁
Interesting note, the previously reviewed MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD, not on these lists, has fallen in price to around $420us, and the non QD model is down to $380-$400. May possibly be a better choice.
@nomasporfavor Australia, but yes. He usually prices them in USD and AUD.
Huh?
Great review. Thanks for providing the info that helps us buy the best for our money. ❤️
man i cant wait to see a video on the AG274QXM when it releases
These manufacturers really need to come up with better names for these things... (granted, knowing the letters can help decipher size and color but still)
Awesome job as ever, Love your content. I have been thinking about this for quite some time and finally am asking it. Why do you not show how colour calibration of a monitor is/should be done? A tutorial perhaps for the curious among us to have a better understanding and for the few who are lucky to get their hands on hardware to calibrate the monitor. Thank you.
I believe they have done a tutorial on it a year or two ago, try looking it up on their channel.
@@ThomasS17 Thank you...
I've been itching to upgrade from my 1080p 75Hz IPS panel to a 1440p one with higher refresh, so this one tempts me slightly, but I've been spoiled by 34 inches of ultrawide real estate.
did you upgrade
there is a 32 inches version of this monitor which is not much more expensive
Bought the 32in last night. Really glad to see this!!!
The monitors you review are rarely ever listed for sale anywhere. Take this one for example....no listing on Amazon even with your link. The only one listed is LG 32GP850-B. Nothing on Amazon, nothing on Newegg.
Yup, it's definitely not sold here in the UK.
Hey, I need help to decide which monitor to buy in black Friday, the LG 27gp83b or the msi mag274qrf-qd(in my region there is no LG 27gp850b yet unfortunately) I can afford both just need to pick one, it's mostly for gaming on my PC and my PS5.

Which ever is cheaper, tbh
Well, 2 months ago I did bite the bullet and bought ViewSonic VX2758-2KP-MHD Gaming. It was on sale as well, bought it for some 270 EUR and yeah, money was big concern for me. I do think it's solid choice in the budget cathegory and obviously HW unboxed thought as well. EDIT: Love the height adjustibility of this LG monitor! Wish my ViewSonice had that too. My only gripe so far.
As opposed to figuratively?
Facts, This monitor is sick for what it can do and its a nano ips which he didnt mentioned but the VA black smearing can be extremely annoying and to the colors on TN and VA look off after looking at a ips panel.
For gaming and photoshop, IPS is the way to go
Tried it today, I could not complain. Colors look nice btw.
Picked this monitor up today. So far it has exceeded my expectations in every way.
Best buy had the 32" version on sale for $400. I got it today and I only used it for a little while testing it out and it looks great for my first monitor(using it for console gaming.)
Picked up the 32” today at Best Buy for $350! Haven’t really messed with the color settings yet, but so far I’m pretty happy with it. If anybody had recommended color adjustments/settings, I would definitely appreciate it.
I just bought this today, VA smearing is driving me nuts on my Asus with the same specs. Do you notice any blur or smearing on the LG?

As soon as I solve the lack-of-space-issue on my desk, I'll pick up this monitor and a second arm to mount it on. That'll be a huge upgrade, since I'm just using a single 75hz 1080p TN panel right now!

My only problem with this monitor is the 'OnScreen Control' program provided by LG.
You can't change the mode from the shortcut just by right-clicking. You can't add a custom screen mode. You can't add the gaming crosshair from this program.
You have to use the button on the monitor. This is a gaming monitor LG, let me do stuff from your app. Other than these problems, this is a really good gaming monitor.

How’s it going with you?
I've had the 32 inch model since April and I love it.
Great review, thanks. Do u have any guides up about how to properly color calibrate monitors?
Highly recommend this if you like FPS games like cod. Been great with my series x and was a huge upgrade. Cod at 120 frames is a huge difference. It does great with games like forza 5 and mlb the show which I also like
if it does well in cod or forza, you think it would do well for flight arcade games like ace combat or project wingman?
What settings are you using on your series x and monitor? If I'm playing with response time on normal, fast or faster seems like I'm stuttering all the time.
