D Negs getting crushed HU v Polk seems to have the best thing to happen to him. Since then he's won two tournys after a long drought. It either forced him to change and or learn new tricks. Either way, he seems to be a different tourny player then pre-Polk beatdown.
I think the key to that hand is the rather large sizing on the river. Petrangelo somewhat polarized himself as it's unlikely that a J bets that much. A J might be smaller to entice calls from bluff catchers (like Negreanu had), but at 400k it's probably an A or nothing. However, Petrangelo's raise/bet/check/bet range is much larger than the various A value hands, including a lot of "air" hands that have no other way of winning the pot. Daniel certainly didn't appear strong either, making a bluff with that air range more likely.
Negreanu is constantly evolving his game. He never stops learning, his personality has gone through maturation and mentally he’s been locked in over the past 3 years. I have a feeling he’s just getting warmed up and big finish is coming by years end💪🏼
First of all, I love the effect of this kind of tournament being represented in a similar way to golf. The irony of the refinement and skill it requires to be a solid player in this day and age when our conceptions of money and currency are so vastly different than they might otherwise be is fascinating. Negreanu deserved this title he played so stone cold and tight the whole time that it couldn't have been otherwise. Not to mention Daniel absolutley shut Petrangelo down with those final hands. Make your own luck. This was electric to watch.
I was thinking exactly about this too...I would put all that thinking process on a lot of informations he had about the guy from his experience playing against him ...just my opinion...but that was a true master's call
Petrangelo betting the flop just looks like a normal c bet from preflop aggressor. It mostly comes down to the check on the turn. If he bets there I think dnegs folds. Then the A comes on the river. If you have an A in that spot are you going to value bet? Probably not because of the flush possibility. So was he trying to represent a flush at that point? Also unlikely. DNegs conclusion: bluff is in his range and K high is good.
@George Owen and still never heard about you winning anything...how come if its so easy for you?have you ever tought that might be a trap slow playing the turn, exactly like the commentors sugested? Its a pretty common play nowadays...i guess not, huh?!
I think he used some live white magic, honestly. I don't think this is a call in gto land with the 7. A lot of Nick's b/c/b lines will have the 5,6,7,8 that don't turn equity and Daniel should have enough weak jx and 3x that theres no need to reach to king highs and specifically king highs that block bluffs as a bluff catcher... but I could be wrong bc i'm not studied in HU tournament ranges.
So I guess you missed him getting destroyed heads up against Phil recently lmao. Danny's good but there's alot of better new school and still a few old school that are alot higher on the list. Polk handing him his ass didn't help anything
He was on Doug Polk's podcast and said exactly this. He said it helped him best in the early stages of the tournament, when they're 200bb deep and more.
He has improved in two areas. 1. In the past he would read his opponents cards correctly when beat and still call anyways like a dunce. No longer makes calls when he thinks he is beat. 2. Doesnt talj anymore when playing pros. Learned his lesson.
Could never play poker for real, sitting there with a king high with aces on the flop. Man, some people ain't scared. My sphincter would too tight, sweat would make the cards fall from my hands, the dryness of my throat would make it difficult to say I fold.
When he loss this years World Series, he acted out of line. You don’t flick the dealer button towards the dealer and jump off your chair no matter how unlucky you get. He’s had his share of success throughout the years avoiding these beats while other players encounter this more often. He should be very grateful for where he’s at today.
how do i get into following poker tourneys is there like a championship with events in a year or like a league place or just random tourneys all year round?
So question to any pros out there, at 18:12 Daniel checks which while I was watching seems like the obviously good move to make, question would it be bad to fire a bet there instead to see whether the opponent actually will stick with his hand?
I would ask you to think about the hand a bit backwards. What is your bet sizing on the turn if you bet there? What do you do if he raises your turn bet? What is your river sizing after the call? You certainly can't bet turn and check river, can you? If you check river, what amount don't you call, or are you always calling river? How are you sitting if he rolls over Kh-10h after he shoves river and you have to call? Try to think of all the decision branches instead of just one or two.
The all in call with ten seven is batshit. Also, I gotta hand it to poker go. They give all the information you could want from the actual photo of the player, constant chip count update, showing the winnings immediately after a win. Pretty thorough format all around.
it's the same people in these 'high roller' events passing the money between themselves. No new money coming into the poker scene for years now and it's killing the game. Since 2008 Las Vegas has lost ~70% of the tables that were in action, if not more. Moneymaker won his WSOP Bracelet from a $39 satellite game, we all need to remember that and bring that action back.
Daniel Negreanu had an 8 year drought with 0 tournament wins between 2013 and 2021 (with plenty of 2nd place finishes) but now he seems back with already 2 in 2021
In my books second place is not bad.. especially the amt of money u can still make in poker is crazy! Naturally he is still up there with the best in the world
One of the best poker players, playing for decades, also its so much fun to watch daniel play
I'm glad he won. Watching him play GG poker from Mexico online was painful
@@jamescollier3 yeah that shit was horrible lol
Daniel's a class act. Great guy. Takes selfies with fans on his breaks when everyone else is going potty.
Someone hasn't watched Dnegs twitch streams
@@Forever_Laura where can I watch?
Class act lol you should watch him lose online and have a meltdown like a kid in a candy store. No class act
that is when he dont wanna punch someone in his face from his twitch stream xDD

Yeah man he has taken the loss and used it to improve his game. Shows great maturity.
agreed, especially heads up, id fear Dnegs

That’s why DNegs is one of the greats, love him or not

Once in a lifetime player! It’s such a privilege to have watched him play for all these years!
His king high a call, when there was 2 aces on the board was legendary 👌 👏
It helped him once the second ace came, greatly lowered the odds that Petrangelo had an ace.
truly best call of the century
The second ace, could have been it. He saw something.
Would be cool to see "old school VS new school" with that K high call.
no way new school would make that call
Online with a HUD solver, new school would do it. Live no chance.

Bro he knows when people are bluffing, I would be so scared to bluff against him because I know he would call me
Imo, dneggs is the best poker tell reader out of the bunch.
I feel like he just makes crazy calls to scare people from bluffing in the future
They don't show you every time he's wrong. Perception>Reality
Without a doubt, every pro player at this level has reading skills that are from another planet. That is what sets them apart from the rest.
@@greghughes6098 But he did tell a few correctly, enough to be on the hall of fame yeah?
Negreanu's still one of the best around. The King high call here was a classic.

nice call with k high, really amazing
It seriously is, makes me wonder if i could even try that play
Right what a sick feeling he had. That’s that old school in him like Phil ivey
Be interested to see Negreanu's thought process on the K-high hand at 13:15

This Canadian is proud of your success. Best of all, you're something else!
Daniel Negreanu is by far my favorite poker play, all time! I would love to meet the guy in real life!
K high call just shows how elite of a player dnegs is
LOL call with King high, Negreanu is my favorite player year over year. So sharp and unique playing style +table interaction.

Daniel is a monster for calling with King high on that board. What an animal
Calling that king high , with two aces on the board was amazing. I don’t think many people could make that call.
To end it on a pair of rockets. Pure Glory. Congrats on Masters DNEGS!!!!

In most cases he made those calls for information. Dunce is the last thing anybody should ever call Negreano
That's interesting. I hadn't noticed how little he is chatting now. That is probably a really hard leak for him to fix. 😄
Always happy to see you Daniel, especially when you are winning 😍
Wow negraneu on perfect form can just crush petrangelo. Amazing, hall of famer in poker no doubt
Daniel's hair transplant game is strong
He’s shrewd and cool. Never gets rattled like some.
How Daniel called with K high is beyond me. What a monster

No, the heavy flop bet call should slow things up for negs, better to check to evaluate Petras turn value strength
