      What Congress needs is AGE LIMITS. I know there are Attorneys that have a practice & are 75 yrs old, same with some Doctors! However, a law office & a hospital/Doctors ofc is much different than the highest positions in the Federal Government. I think 73 should be the age limit for Congress members, not 93. 😮😂 Not trying to upset the elderly I am elderly, however, there is common sense! 93 is much too old to be serving in our Government. • @filipino_nomad
      @filipino_nomad Месяц назад +3

      @@kiroolioneaver8532 valid point and I do not disagree. However, there is a political idea that Congress (particularly the "senatus", origin of the concept of the "senate") as a representative government for the people as being composed of "elders" or people who have a deep wealth of experience and knowledge about the society they are governing. In modern times, for example, when a representative wants to file a bill, they should be able to know if there is no law already passed for that purpose or that it doesn't contradict with another law. They should be able to have a foresight on what that law may be used for, especially if used wrongfully. What I'm saying is that while the president may be elected by popularity, that office does not require the kind of "textbook knowledge" required of members of congress. You could already see what happens to a congress when it is filled with people who are there to become celebrities but they don't really know what they're doing.

    Separation of powers is a cornerstone of US Democracy but the Supreme Court is beholden and accountable only to itself. This provides for the abuses we have witnessed over the past number of years.
    Just as a Supreme Court judge must be nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate, there should be a mechanism for removing a Supreme Court judge. This can be made difficult enough that it cannot be enforced on a whim but there must be a mechanism other than self-censureship. Majority or super-majority votes by the Senate, House, President and Cabinet should make the forced removal of a judge difficult enough to not be subject to petty politics.

    • @edwardt8519
      @edwardt8519 Месяц назад

      Ummm....congress has passed measures making them only accountable to themselves. Just one example is that they are not subject to the SEC or law enforcement for violating insider trading laws. They are subject to a committee review of their peers. No congress member has ever gone to jail or been penalized more than $400 fine for insider trading. You know the names of the Justices you do no like...but so you know who Martha Stewart is? You catching on?

    The striking uniqueness of the US three branches is the balance checking system. However, the reason why back then when forming the three branches, the SCOTUS is spare to be in the balance checking itself because our founding father would never imagine the people they assign to be into SCOTUS supposed to be super-human-super-ego types, but it fails as time come to modern time, and it is ashamed the current SCOTUS has failed our founding fathers' trusts for their services to our great country! So, it is time to actually put SCOTUS into accountability, responsibility, put it under serious scrutiny of moral, terms, ethics, and everything in between as the highest law of the land! President Biden is doing absolutely the right things!

    Something just doesn't add up. Biden had a week of training before the debate with Trump.(What did that entail please?), then performed so terrifyingly dismally on the night, they soon wanted to get rid of him. But speeches since then, like this one, show a very different man: knowledgeable, funny, coherent - and passing a law that will bring more justice. A tiny part of my brain thinks: was he drugged on the debate day? Was this sad display intentional? I know people reading this may well think: 'conspiracy theorist' and yes, in a way I am. This slur is currently over-used about anyone who thinks and expresses differing views that the ruling elite find threatening. Biden, free from his worn-out puppet strings was given a chance to speak more openly. This whole section of history is bewildering as each day brings more 'news,' keeping us caught up in a cycle of anxiety and constant sensationalism, while the wealthiest plan globalist, dystopian futures that ignore the plight of those deemed inferior.

    I fully support President Biden's endorsement of SCOTUS reforms. These are essential steps toward restoring balance and fairness in our judiciary. However, we must go even further to ensure these reforms endure. A nonpartisan Congress is crucial, with the Speaker of the House and committee chairs required to be nonpartisan. This would significantly reduce partisan gridlock and ensure that legislation truly serves the public interest.
    Additionally, we must implement codetermination in our corporations. Corporations wield enormous influence over our politics, and giving workers a voice in corporate governance would democratize our economy and reduce the disproportionate power of wealthy elites.
    We need to face facts: any significant reform, like SCOTUS reforms, will inevitably face attempts at reversal. The recent overturning of Roe v. Wade starkly illustrates this point. By establishing a nonpartisan Congress and codetermination, we create a system of checks and balances that reinforces each other and prevents future despots from attempting to consolidate power.
    These measures would not only protect the reforms we make today but also ensure a more democratic, fair, and resilient political system for generations to come.
    This emphasizes the necessity and interconnectedness of the reforms, highlights the potential risks of not implementing comprehensive changes, and underscores the importance of protecting democracy from future threats.

Yes, Americans can move to different states. But the United States is huge, even much larger than South Korea. Thus, people are less likely to move to different states to vote there.
      The Electoral College is designed to balance the influence between more and less populous states, ensuring that all regions have a voice in electing the president. It's not about being stuck in one place, but rather maintaining a balance of power and representation across diverse states. It ensures that states have a role in selecting the president, preserving the balance of power between the federal government and the states.

    It's absurd that there are any taxpayer lifetime appointments. If anything it doesn't go far enough, should be term limits for like 8 years and age limits, this should go for the house and senate too. None of these people should be able to play the stock market or take up employment with corporations they have dealings with for many years after leaving office, it just entices corruption on any side. Don't expect any big changes though, because all politicians are in it for themselves for one reason or another.
