    Very nice, well done video. No bad music, no excess face time, just good solid info and video that fits the info. Two thumbs up, as they say.

    very nice -you guys paddle like canoe racers! lol. I ended up using a bath/shower mat with rubber suckers on the backside for my dog. We have 2 labs...but I only take one in the boat with me at a time. It's an Old Town Pack in Royalex...so I love that it's just 33 pounds but can carry 600 if I need it to for hunting, fishing, camping. Anyway, the bathmat solved all the problems of the mat slipping when the dogs would jump in or out of the canoe. Happy Paddling!

      Good idea on the bath mat! I like that better than what we've done so far. ABS is probably also a good choice. Our boat got pretty beat up over the last 3 years and we just had it re-finished so it's like new again. Kevlar is nice and light and was what we used all the years we raced so that's what I wanted but something more rugged might be better. I assume your canoe is shorter to be only 33 lbs? I don't know if I could stand something shorter and slower.

    Great job on sharing this information. WOW, what a great fit on your boat. That bag is beautiful. I nailed it for you. WeatherMax is easy to care for and will be water resistant for years to come. The fabric is breathable and made for protection from the sun. It will keep your baby looking great. The Minne II was my first boat, back then it was called the Whitewater II and I believe I raced it against your sisters, way, way back. You were probably a baby at that time. Glad to see you guys are taking time to have fun. I have a great solution to your dog pad problem. I make a cover that has a non skid bottom. Let me know if you need me to make a pillow case type cover for the dog pad with the skid resistant bottom. Take care. Nice job, Brad!

    You must have painted that ZRE paddle with the sparkle pink.I am sure Bob didn't not do that.Also you can cut pieces of sleeping mat to fit your bucket seats and glue them in with contact cement,I find that more comfortable than the Wenonah seat pads.

    The Wenonahs are great boats. I had a Prism, sold it, and picked up an Advantage and a Voyager, in the ultralight layups (all three solo boats). I paddled the Minnesota II the last time I went to Boundary Waters Canoe Area and really enjoyed it. Great boats all.
    I'll be using the Voyager when I attempt a thru paddle of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail. Have you looked into the NFCT?

    amazing! just a quick question. how did you train your dog to be comfortable getting in and settling in the canoe? i would love to canoe with my pup but she can get a lil anxious going in the canoe

    • @MTBIKEXC
      @MTBIKEXC  4 года назад +1

      First thing you need to know is my dog is incredibly mellow and not fazed by much of anything. I started off on land, had her hop in and out of the canoe by throwing treats in it. Then had her sit down in it. She was a little nervous but not bad. The next day, tried the same thing with the boat in the water and she got used to the shaky aspect of the boat on water pretty quick and that was pretty much it. She's done a lot of agility prior to this where they have to do things like walk over a see-saw, across an elevated 1' wide walkway, jump over a barrier, through a tire, etc... so she was pretty experienced with doing unusual things and doing what I ask her to. Don't force your dog, just lure 'em with treats - works well with my lab. And do a little every day for a few days till they get used to it.

    Mn. 2 is the best and I've done alot of BWCA trips in one with my dog but I usually use an Encounter once I got a bigger dog( 94lbs.). The next lab was smaller ( 75 lbs) but both worked well but stayed seated for most of the time. I'm using a padded seat with built in fold able back rest for long days of fishing . The dog can out swim any human, especially a lab

    • @MTBIKEXC
      @MTBIKEXC  3 года назад

      Cool... I never heard of the Encounter but looks like a great boat. I have a Prism which is okay, but not as stable as I'd like.

    • @TheMuudcat
      @TheMuudcat 3 года назад +1

      @@MTBIKEXC Encounter is 17.5ft with a just a bit of rocker which slows it some, compared to the Advantage I once had, but makes it a bit more maneuverable and will carry a lot of gear ( and dog) with it's added width. Prism is a great boat, but as with most Wenonahs, one must have a little experience. I've never had a problem and have paddled, and raced, most of their boats, including J-200's

      Dog life vets are actually dangerous, my friends dog died wearing one, he was fitted correctly for one, he fell of her kayak and flipped over the currents were strong and she could not get too him in time. She had a lab too, please don’t get a life vest there a waste, they put your dog in more danger, lol chill out

      I think it could work either way. We tend to not canoe in any fast moving water but I do fear that in fast moving water, the dog could get hung up on a stick/downed tree. Most of our paddling is lakes and very slow moving streams. I have only tipped over once with the dog, in a lake and she swam - not to shore but to me - so it took a bit of time for me to get to shore and the dog (who wasn't wearing a the life vest b/c I was actually alone and I don't put it on her when I'm alone) kept trying to swim into me and I had to pull the canoe (a Wenonah Prism 1-man boat) and push her away at the same time. Had I been way out in a big lake and she wouldn't swim to shore, I suspect the life preserver would have been helpful for her. In most Adirondack lakes, I don't think a life preserver is necessary. In Lake Champlain, I'd say it is a good idea. In Maine lakes (which can be huge), also a good idea. In our local river, totally not needed. My opinion. I understand yours.

      @@MTBIKEXC yes I don’t think labs need life vest, only when there in rough currents like white water rafting or in the ocean
