The Rustic Inn has the best pie in the state, and delcious food, located in lovely Castle Danger (between Two Harbors and Beaver Bay). Please come visit again in the fall and see the shore blanketed in color. It's beyond compare. Grand Marais is fantastic and the gateway to the Gunflint Trail, which is a gem as well. We love watching your content (and Pops' too)! Enjoyed watching your road trip of our home.
The videos of you and pops are just my favorite. Your dad reminds me of my own father who passed 5 years ago. I look forward to all your videos and love that you two are making so many fun memories together ❤
So beautiful! And for some reason the overcast weather just added to the charm. For those of us that live on the Pacific side of the USA, your vlogs have opened our eyes to the beauty of these places that are rarely talked about!
Great job guys! We moved to MN in 1978 and left in 2021. The North Shore was our preferred escape for all those years, and it was amazing how much you discovered and got right on your first pass! You should do a video on how you research a trip! Ironically, we were there that same weekend traveling through from Seattle. We "collect" coffee shops as we travel. You nailed it with Duluth Coffee Co, and Java Moose in Grand Marais. Two of the best anywhere! Thank you for not disclosing our favorite restaurant, who doesn't really need more business. ;-). Folks should not expect the waterfalls to be that full. There was an unusual amount of water moving down the hill that weekend. We were also surprised that you showed so many places (like Betty's Pies) so empty. It must have been the weather. The popular places are always packed, especially on summer weekends. The line at the Donut shop was more typical. You weren't camping, but it would be good to mention that there is a string of MN State Parks along the shore with outstanding campgrounds. Reservations fill up early, but you could plan a whole vacation around camping at those parks. The hotel you stayed at was at the Lutsen Mountain ski resort, and they have mountain biking, lifts and an Alpine Slide which is fun in the summer and the golf course at Lutsen is worth the trip too. The most amazing resource in the area IMHO is the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Back country enthusiasts can travel via canoe and portage trail through a network of pristine lakes along the Canadian border. Out of scope for your trip video, but something for your viewers to be aware of. Nice work!
Duluth and the North Shore is my best place I have lived for 9 years. It has lots of activities all year round. This is the best place to see the stars and the aurora borealis.
I always thought the Great Lakes were big. Seeing Lake Superior through your video is really something else. Did not why I thought looking across them you could see the other side. Nope I was so wrong. Thanks for documenting this trip for us. Gorgeous water falls. Safe travels.
I really enjoy watching you and your dad travel everywhere. Reminds .e of travels with my late dear mother. We would jump in the car sometimes bringing the tent and just go. I miss doing that. She went to nursing school in Duluth in the late 1930s. She was a farmers daughter from the Redwood Falls area of SW Minnesota. Thanks for the memories♥️
This was way better than I thought it would be!!! I've only been to lake huron as a kid but may have to add this to the list!! thanks for the video Josh!
I am so in awe of this EPIC journey that I didn't want to end! There's so much to do and see in our diversely beautiful country. This one is definitely going on the "Bucket List!"
Heyyy, i have been to Split Rock Lighthouse and it was a Long and AWESOME Trip! Loved it! Im Al and you guys are amazing! Ive have visited most of the north shore of Minnesota. You guys are great!
I love watching you and Pops. When pops first came with you he was a little quiet but boy he sure is a quite a character now. Your relationship reminds me of what my son's and my relationship was. Unfortunately my son passed away but he was your father's age. And you are my grandchildren's age so I absolutely enjoy watching the two of you I watch every one of your videos. You are one of my top five channels that I watch.
This was FANtastic from beginning to end. I enjoyed every part. It's hard to single out certain highlights. You and Pops did it again. Now, I want to go to MN. BRAVO... EXCELLENT 🏡🙏🏻🤠🏞👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I grew up in Duluth and along the North Shore and it will always be my very favorite place in the world! You did it justice in your video and saw the lake in all her glory!
So glad you enjoyed the North Shore! I’ve been going my whole life. It’s my absolute favorite place to visit. The scenery is very impressive and so few Americans even no it exists. I was there a few weeks ago. Fall colors are great on the North Shore. Especially if you hike some of the peaks and hills along the Superior hiking trail. The colors are like the northeast. You’ll have to come back again. There’s so much more to see. There’s a different high falls you missed in Tettegouche state park which is the 2nd highest in Minnesota. The one you saw on the Canadian border is the highest.
As always, I love your content. Especially when you travel with your father. My father turned 80 last week and the North Shore of Superior is on our list. Cheers!
I'm so glad you guys enjoyed your North Shore trip! There are so many different things to do and see on the drive! This year was a great year for waterfalls in our state, especially up north. If you guys decide to come back, definitely plan it in October! The colors contrast really well with the beauty of Lake Superior!
This is the most passive and yet busiest road trip I have seen in the channel. I wish I could do this type of road trips with my dad. Thank you for sharing as always!
Yeah we got a buttload of rain this year in MN - much more than usual. Come back in the fall to catch the colors and go to Lutsen Mountain. Autumn is beautiful in the north shore.
I’ve lived in northern Minnesota for 65+ years. It is a beautiful state ,3 miles from Lake superior as the crow flies I’ve been to all the places that you have shown in your video plus I know quite a few inland waterfalls from the rivers, thank you for doing your video. I always watch them and it’s fascinating. You do a great job. Thank you.
Minnesotan here. Thanks for checking out our state. Used to go to Duluth once every 3 months for work but have only gone all the way up the North Shore once. Great views.
I had no idea Minnesota was so beautiful! My husband and I love watching your videos. Neither of us have a dad and we absolutely adore Pops’ humor and dad jokes. We both laughed when Pops’ was singing instead of the rocks. 😂 Anyhow, thank you for all the videos, and for being something we all can look forward to.
Lovely to see you start in my hometown! I worked on the North Shore Drive (Scenic 61) as a girl and spent many a day on the shore! Like many Minnesota North Shore folks as I've traveled the country very few things top my home state scenic drives,
I think Josh won the Taconite impression match, but Pops really took home the prize with his rendition of "We will rock you"! + looking forward to hopefully watching you explore Thunder Bay! Don't forget to do the sauna! Greetings from Finland
Great video, I have lived in MN most my life and been to the North Shore too many times to count. I remember when Betty Pies was a shack on the side of the road! You definitely came at an unusually wet time, usually you can walk on the lower falls of Gooseberry with no problem. The same is true of Caribou Falls.
My mom’s family was from Edina. Even though we didn’t live in Minnesota, summers spent in the Boundary Waters working on my BSA merit badges are some very happy memories! 👍
Agree - being from Denmark, me and my wife have been fortunate enough to visit both the North Shore of MN and Door County, WI, with its Cana Island Lighthouse.
I'm guilty of passing up Betty Pies both ways sadly. I had just a few hours to explore and spent that time at Split Rock Lighthouse. Then immediately drove back to catch a flight in Minneapolis. Awesome video ! You brought back so many memories and I want to go back so bad!
Wow, those waterfalls are powerful! I've been so curious about seeing Lake Superior from the Minnesota side. Definitely keeping it in the itinerary! I got a tummy ache just looking at that collection of donuts!
Love your videos especially this one since I was born in MN but live in Houston since 1965. If I could drive this would be a dream of mine to take this same road trip. Thank you for bringing this to youtube.
Thanks for sharing this trip! It looked beautiful. If you get back to Minnesota, you should try heading to Itasca State park where you can walk across the Mississippi River at the headwaters.
Another video with amazing views and interesting back stories...thanks 👍 East coast got higher than normal rainfall this summer. Water volumes seem up everywhere.
I’m From MN and lived in Duluth for 4 years. Was able to explore all along the north shore. It was beautiful. Great video! I hope you make it to voyageurs national park!!
I love my Minnesota...during a drought I walked out onto Gooseberry falls and laid down and looked over the edge. :)Temperance is my favorite. Love the gorge. Next time take the Lutsen Gondola ride and have Walleye at the top!
Such a beautiful shore line. My dad was born 1.5 hrs north of Duluth in Cook MN where his family still has the old family homestead. Not been there yet. One day. Thanks for posting the beauty of that area.
Fantastic trip, unbelievable waterfalls, cliffs, beaches, views, hikes, and very tasty looking food. I would've liked to see accommodations beside the last minute booking, which was great by-the-way.
I'm so glad you finally made it to our north shore. You should come back for the tall ships, I think they are coming back next year. I am lucky my uncle has my grandfathers cabin about 30 miles away from Duluth, I try to go up once a year.
Great video! We did the Lake Superior Circle tour this summer and it was fun reliving this part of it. Next time you're in Grand Marais be sure to try Hungry Hippie tacos. Soooo good!
Wow, So clad you came to the shore! This is our playground… from Northwest Wisconsin but we go up whenever we can. Watch all your videos! Larry and Shelley
Thank you for sharing, I was hoping to do this journey myself this year, unfortunately it did not happen. However, thru you I feel as though I got a pretty good view of all the waterfalls.
It’s funny the day you release this video was the day I found a really nice Minnesota hoodie and was talking to my man about visiting one of these days but not knowing what Minnesota had to offer.
Thomsonite Beach / resort local gemstone , gunflint trail , witch tree, isle royal n.p. Michigan , amethyst mines, lrgest amethyst firepls ,kek river ,falls Canada. Next time . I found u during covid .living in ca . Now u find n.s.mn.i lved 30 yrs . So happy u got to see at its best .

Hello Joshua and Bob I just wanted to thank you guys so much… i really enjoyed your videos… I’d a professional photographer and videographer you’re doing a fantastic work… 🎉
We are from South Dakota . Just a hop, skip, and jump from there. Beautiful falls . Pops did not win the rock skipping. Sorry , your son did . I counted at least four skips. But Pops can really sing !! I will have to add this to our bucket list.
Lived in Minnesota for many years… Brings me back to all the great times we would run up to the Duluth/north shore for a get away…ha and noticed the spot my friend Jonah almost slipped and died by falling into raging ice filled gooseberry falls
I am from Minnesota and it makes me happy to see you appreciate the state and the greatest Great Lake! I smiled when you called Superior the ocean. 😂
He did correct that on the video when he edited it. Wording over the video said it wasn't the ocean.
Totally agree with you! Let's hope they explore the other great parts of Minnesota too some day.
The Rustic Inn has the best pie in the state, and delcious food, located in lovely Castle Danger (between Two Harbors and Beaver Bay). Yes to the Rustic Inn. We eat there every time we're on the Northshore.
Waterfalls, lighthouses, and pie. You have my attention!

I agree with Pops. A large donut selection is key AND all waterfalls must have rainbows. 🍩 🌈 🚙 🌊

You did a bunch of points of interests that we did. I am trying to get to all the Minnesota State Parks, as they have a hiking club!
They also gave some of the best fall foilage.
