    Love your flip through, as always! So interesting about the two historic events for you this year - total eclipse and cicada invasion! Your journals will be so fun for your grandchildren to look through. Meanwhile, I'm so glad you share them with us! So creative and inspiring!

    Funny how BUSY some of that old scrap paper is, lol. yikes. Hahhaha, the movie The Fog is a really good movie, but I cannot for the life of me stay awake through it, lol. Brilliant way to get skins and pits, that's terrific. Last time I did avocado dying, I added a little bit of apple cider vinegar while it was to the mix and boiled it and wow did it come out deeply colored. Always so much going on there. Too cool

      I’ve never tried apple cider vinegar but I heard baking soda would darken the color. I added a tablespoon to about 6 cups of the dye and whoa…very deep color, too dark for my taste. I put the leftover dye in a freezer bag for the next time and honestly, if I were to kick and anyone found it they might think I was a vampire storing up blood for a liquid snack.😂

    This video popped up today, and I love everything you have done. We have similar styles, and I like getting new ideas. So, I watched several of your travel related videos, and see we go to the same places. Door County is my Happy Place, and we're going in June for the Lighthouse Festival this year. We visit Galena/Dubuque area to see the eagles, and my daughter lives in CO, too. We have an August visit planned. I live in the northern suburbs, and like to shop all the antique stores as well. Junk journaling and collage journals are new to me, and I have a couple in progress. I'm happy to have found your channel, and now my mind is spinning with new ideas. Thank you for doing these videos.

      Welcome aboard, Kathy! So interesting that we have so much in common. Who knows? Maybe we’ve bumped into each other in some shop and never knew we’d connect. Did you grow up in the burbs, in the city or somewhere else? I’m from the Rogers Park area, then Jefferson Park and finally Des Plaines. We’ve been going to Door for over 30 years. These days we go there a couple times a year…so beautiful and so much to do!❤️

      @@SueF51 I grew up in Des Plaines, and I have lived in different suburbs since. I've been paper crafting since 1997, stamping, scrapbooking, now journals and collage. Doing travel journals is my favorite as we love to be on the go. Our motto is "we're going while the going is good". I spend a lot of time doing counted cross stitch, which I originally did prior to 1997, and picked up again in 2020, while stuck at home. One goal I have is to be more "artsy".

    Looks like where I live in Mississippi will get the Cicadas! Love the story about the bird at your church..When I was a teenager at home, I used to love watching Alfred Hitchcock movies.....after coming home from a date..How do you dye with the skins from avocados? Tutorial?

    • @SueF51
      @SueF51  3 месяца назад

      There are lots of tutorials out there but basically first clean the pits and skins well, removing as much fruit as possible. I had about 10-12 pits and skins (some use only pits). I brought about 2 quarts of water to a boil and then simmered the pits/skins for a couple hours. Cool slightly and then pour into a 9x13 pan and dip your papers in. Be sure to wear gloves. Let them sit longer if you want a deeper color. If the pink is too pale try adding a small amount (1/2 teaspoon) of baking soda and see if it makes it a bit darker. You can lay them out on a plastic sheet to air dry or bake in the oven at 225 for just a few minutes…watch closely. If you want polka dots or other patterns try to find some cheap pans at thrift stores with interesting patterns like a pizza pan. You can press the baked papers under heavy books or iron them.

      They are cut from one of those desk calendar pads where you tear off a sheet each day. I found it cheap at Goodwill. Thanks for asking and for watching. ❤
