- Salutations! Lately, I've been missing the Halo Waypoint app that is still available for download on the Xbox 360. In this video, I discuss why I believe that Halo Waypoint was such a massive success, why the Halo Channel on the Xbox One is the exact opposite, and I propose an idea on how a Halo Waypoint-like experience can be incorporated in the future.

Ohhh the codes to put in for credits in halo reach and the armor for halo 4.. dear god the memories.
For a flagship series, MS has handled it very fast and loose. I would love to see an OG Waypoint for mobile (kinda like the old Bungie app, Battlelog, ect.), and an in-game, cannon, Waypoint, used to update players on new features, events, and adventures (secrets that lead to customizable appearance). This would all be nice, but in my opinion, the Halo community is hyping Halo Infinite up to a massive high, and I know for a fact that if MS and 343i dont get this right, they're loosing alot of fans. I say lower your expectations and see what they have to offer instead of dreaming of an unrealistic Halo game.
Definitely with you on keeping my expectations modest. We still know next-to-nothing about the game itself, and I don’t really expect my Waypoint proposal to make it into the game, to be honest. I was merely saying what I’d do with it if it were up to me to bring it back.
@@TheVengefulVadam You can see the community over exaggerating the speculation of the game being open-world when no one (officially) had announced that it's going to be open-world, yet people latch on to it and run with it as fact. My expectations of Halo Infinite as a game are separated from the trailer. All the trailer did was show off the capabilities of their new Slipspace engine, and nowhere in the presentation said that it would represent a game. I think of the Halo Infinite trailer the same way as the Halo (5) on Xbox One E3 trailer. They're just tech showcases.

You could make the same assumptions from the Halo on Xbox One trailer opinionating on that game being open-world, when it was a showcase that later foreshadowed Halo 5.

I won't lose sleep if Infinite won't be open-world, but I only mentioned it because others have speculated on it, so it was more of a "what-if scenario" than me wishing for it to be an open-world game. I'm fine with either or (linear vs open-world) as long as the game is fantastic overall.

Oh you have no idea. Being rewarded for the Halo achievements you unlocked was a massive bonus for me personally. I still try to 100% every Halo game but being recognized and rewarded for it was so cool at the time.
Me too man. I remember when I was a kid I thought halo waypoint was an actual game and I looked for a way to play and I couldn’t find it. 343 needs to bring this stuff back for halo 6, go above and beyond and get involved in the community just like halo 3 and reach. This is really giving me inspiration for this video I’m gonna make, thanks

Between the crappy UI design and the inferior features, the nightfall rewards were the only compelling reason for me to use the halo channel.
I admired how halo reach showed a few stats from halo 3 and ODST in the game. Maybe infinite could expand on that? A feature that shows your legacy to halo games similar to how it worked on waypoint. Also, bringing back the classified terminal section would be perfect to use with those glyphs.

Oh man this takes me way back...
Laying in bed, Halo Machinimas pulled up on my phone, while up on my TV, I was flipping through Pete the Duck’s Forge Videos and other featured Forge maps, lore tabs, and vidocs on the making of the Halo games and videos describing the lore, all up on that awesome Halo UI on my TV. It felt like I was really there looking at a hologram screen in the Halo universe. And like you mentioned, maybe Bungie.net was superior, but I didn’t care. I loved browsing things right up on my TV screen with that amazing UI. Even in the droughts between things getting featured and uploaded, I would rewatch so much of the older Waypoint videos, over, and over, and over.
Most of my friends don’t remember Waypoint for anything besides getting Military Police armor and the Guilty Spark Avatar item, but it was so much more to me. And I miss it. I opened Halo Channel once hoping it was going to be a better Waypoint, and never ever opened it again. A buggy, clunky disappointment that just wasn’t the same.
Great video as always, ‘Vadam. Glad to see Waypoint being remembered the way I remembered it. Here’s to hoping Infinite some how incorporates Waypoint in some way similar to how you described. I’d love to have that again.
I'm surprised the old 360 Waypoint even has news about Halo 5.
I miss all those comic cartoons they used to do on there. They we're cool. They did that pre 343 Reach
Halo Waypoint introduced me to RvB, Machinima. and the Internet as a whole.
How young were you?
Halo Waypoint was my main source of Halo content back then, it was easy to use, reliable, informative, things to unlock and it provides tonnes of content to watch. I remember unlocking all of the Reach armour and most of the Halo 4 content by playing the other games and completing tasks on Waypoint.
Like you, I want something like this implemented in-game that expands upon the original app and shows everybody future patch notes and overall lore. Etc.
I remember signing onto the original xbox 360 app and then just seeing all of my past Halo accomplishments listed before me, earning me an insanely high amount of in-app rank ups! It was glorious and it made me feel a sense of pride for everything I've done in Halo leading up to this!
I remember spending hours exploring waypoint on 360. Reading the lore, looking at videos and stats, and just enjoying the music and the overall atmosphere. It was great. I only remember the Halo channel for being forced out of the game whenever I touched a terminal in the MCC just to wait a minute on a blank screen and be told I couldn't connect to the app.
Literally, I think Waypoints dead at this point..
My Spartan hasn't updated ranks or armors for reach..
And It just saddens me to see that Halo channel didn't get it right..
Though.. WE can say, Halo Channels music in the background was uhh.. okay.

I miss the original Halo Waypoint, the one that played the remix of "Work Burns and Runaway Grunts" from Halo Wars; before the UI overhaul.

You know what i miss the most about Waypoint? The Top 5 videos with EchoTech and Schismarch, I remember i was excited for the weekend to come so i could watch the newest episode. And then all of the sudden they just stopped making more episodes and i never knew why. I was hoping they would continue doing Halo Reach clips and eventually Halo 4.
Those were the good day man....
I miss that app so much, i remember using halo waypoint back then unlocking stuff good memories
They need to fix the Halo Channel app. I think I still have a few terminals left in Halo MCC to collect. But when I go to them and get it, surprise video not found. So now I have some permanent locked Achievements.

Nahhh it remembers so much amazing and funny hours.. playing campaign with friends, matchmaking with randoms, custom games like fatkid, golf, school, 117run and so much more.. plus the unlockables on halo waypoint, the lore, the blue flames on bungie.net and shit like that.. it was incredible and now i wanna play reach and find this community back..
Halo reach also made me discover the US and CA community (i'm french) and it was an AMAZING discovery.. I never really found mates to play Halo with and have the same hobbies etc.. and this day reach was out i did.. i just miss the old Halo and old halo community

I remember the waypoint had this video depicting the launch event for Halo 4 back in the day. They had a bunch of people undergo a series of challenges through a few events. There were explosions, the Chief made a few appearances, it was really cool video. No idea where it is now.
343 will have to have seamless integration. They tried it with the Halo Channel but nothing worked sadly. The Halo Channel would be a perfect spot to find expanded lore and backstory. Also a great way to see there is so much more to Halo than just the game itself. A lore Codex would be amazing for the Halo Channel!
I loved this app. I used to watch the videos on there like heroes never die and the information videos all the time, and that waypoint opening sound when a video starts was gold

Remember on Halo reach where you could unlock the CQB and military police and security chest piece? No? Me neither....
It's heart breaking because I beat Halo Reach on Legendary on 360 but those servers were down so..... Eh

I really do miss watching the old waypoint intros, then seeing halo top 5 or this spartan life or rvb. It was glorious then they came out with the motion comics and their lore videos like "what makes a hero"
I miss this app. I remember constantly restarting it on my Xbox 360 after it was shutdown, but I wanted my Halo Reach armor.
They dont even update the halo channel anymore. And yes the waypoint app was great.
I was thinking the same lately. It was a really good app that would be really neat to have on X1 with the new games.
Awe the memories of waypoint my first look into the lore outside of the games.
One of my favorite features in Waypoint was that it would use your Kinect, and pose your Spartan (the one you had customized with your selection of armor pieces in the game) to match your actual body position. Yeah, it was silly and ultimately useless, but it was a fun feature, and also showed off how it pulled your in-game content (your customized armor in this case) into the app.

I remember when I was playing halo MP, and my food arrived/ is ready, I would turn on waypoint and watch the videos
I remember watching rooster teeth’s fails of the weak on halo waypoint while eating cornflakes man such great memories
I can’t get the app on my Xbox anymore, which sucked since I remember the intro theme that played and I loved it. Even though it may not be the main theme for halo, it still felt fitting for it, and better as a fan.

I rememember when they were adding halo legends episodes on waypoint every weekend every afternoon. Shit was great.
I still play 360 and use the waypoint. In fact recently I got a bunch of codes that gave me XP that got my level 7 Spartan to level 26.
Waypoint was so fun. The secret codes lol.

Tried to go onto Halo Waypoint on my Xbox 360 the other day. Sadly, the servers for Waypoint are officially shut down now.

You forgot to mention the story headhunters from halo evolutions
I think they should just remake waypoint with live streaming and other new features the in-game stuff sounds a little strange like what if I just want to look at some Halo video and read some lore? I have to go get the game disk and put it in the Xbox and then start it up and wait for a bunch of loading screens and then find some area in game that takes too long. having a link to the app on the menu or the Xbox dashboard is much better.
That's a fair assessment, although typically in an open-world game, there's a fast-traveling mechanic a player can use, or they can simply have it be a main menu option for simplicity's sake.
I'd be ok with it either being solely a menu option or in this open-world hub idea, but that's just my opinion. I appreciate seeing opposing views like yours. Generates good discussion :)

Halo Waypoint was absolutely amazing! Microsoft and 343 Industries should most certainly reintroduce the application on the Xbox One platform and beyond.

The greatest loss from this app would have to be some of its video content that currently haven’t been transferred to Halo Channel, the Waypoint Website or RUclips

Dude I totally Agree with you the halo channels way of doing things and it’s art style is very tasteless not to mention shitty effort on it and most of the time it never even worked And to be honest I was there on 360 when they had that waypoint The actual good waypoint The waypoint on 360 I freaking loved it The way it was presented and it’s menu was amazing I loved all the little comics stories Like the Mona Lisa, the return (which by the way for those of you who haven’t watched the return you got watch it I think it’s still on waypoint 360 if you have one) or Just go on RUclips but Some of those stories remind me Of the old Halos like halo 3 It’s art style to it story bring back so many good memories about the campaign and remind me of the great art style halo 3
