I loved at how at 2:00 mark you said "I love the crowd engagement" and thought.... just wait. It amazes me that here is a trio of 60 year olds, playing a song thats 30+ years old, to a crowd filled with what looks like late teen and 20 years olds, and they are "singing" along. Chills man....
This was their first and only tour in Brazil, where they found out that Brazilians were manic Rush fans starved to see them live. They behaved this way at every show they played on that tour.
Also...Rush In Rio, (any band really) are great videos. The audience reactions are worth, the watch in of itself. You know you are loved, when you have a soccer stadium packed with 50 to 60,000 pumped up, loyal, fans( maybe more) *'singing'* along with an all *instrumental* track.
YYZ = toronto pearson intl airport code name. this song really kinda plays around with the morse code transmission (YYZ in morse code over and over) that the airport puts out which is the repetition right at the beginning of the song.
As a fan for 40 years (yep getting older), and as a Torontonian, it's great to see Rush get props whether you like, love or loathe the band. There is simply no denying their talent, cohesiveness and now that they are retired their lasting legacy regardless of genre or popularity. Rush were the last of their kind. God I miss the late 60's- 70's music scene.
Was a dumbass 12 year old when this came out. Still great and still a dumbass at 51. Have never lived more than 75 km away from CN Tower! Guess no need to tell you Alex a great actor! Play that Diane Sawyer song. Or I like to rock !!!!!
I was fortunate enough to see RUSH in concert during their Time Machine tour in West Palm Beach. They rocked this song. I don't know if someone mentioned letters, YYZ is Airport Identification for city of Toronto.
Most Rush fans would pick La Villa Strangiato or this song as the best instrumental, but I favor The Main Monkey Business and Malignant Narcissism. All of them are awesome, though. More Rush songs to try out: Digital Man, Driven, Far Cry, The Spirit of Radio, Subdivisions, Jacob's Ladder, Marathon, Limelight, Witch Hunt, Headlong Flight, Natural Science, Animate and the title track from Clockwork Angels.
watch his drum solo from this show! Neal Peart is the Professor! FYI, he also writes all of the lyrics. This band has something that few others have, they play as unit, but sound like virtuoso's.
Rush is my favorite band. It feels good to watch you enjoy these songs. Xanadu live Exit...Stage Left would be a great experience. The album version of The Spirit of Radio. The album version of By-Tor and the Snowdog also will keep you smiling
I'm 67 Years old now, when i first heard Rush I was in a very small town in British Columbia..Canada. I Knew then there was People like me. People who Look at art an feel Art. Great vid My Bro.
Right in for the live version, nice one dude. :) One thing some people don't notice is the footwork too, basist and guitarist both also control lots of pedals to influence the sounds.
Ever heard an entire crowd sing along to an instrumental before?? Rush had never toured in Brazil so the fans were concert starved for decades and became euphoric when they finally played there... 🤘🏻

A fan since 79,the days of dual double neck guitars & Slingerlands drums in 300 seat clubs.. You should have been there 😶
La Villa Strangiato live: ruclips.net/video/J9RvC558gBE/видео.html Song ends at 9:24 Alex Lifeson even makes a mistake in this version. Very rare. 🍁🍁🍁🍁🤘
Welcome to the 💗 Rush family! I'm 54 years old & I've loved them since I was in high school. Besides Pink Floyd, they are my #1 band... I listen to them almost daily. Try some more 💗 Rush & keep on smiling 😁
YYZ is the airport code for Toronto, and the song begins with variations of Morse code for YYZ. Rush has many more instrumental songs. Arguably, the best one is off "Hemispheres" (1978). As a 44+ year Rush fan I would recommend watching the official video of it. Or watch many of the live versions available.
An absolutely fantastic live one would be Red Sector A form the Grace Under Pressure tour. It’s about the Holocaust in Germany during WW2. The guitar is so clean sounding, and has no bass guitar but the way they fill that void with keyboards and drum sections is nothing short of epic.
Something most people dont notice or mention is Alex Lifeson also has moog pedals and uses them often. Watch a live clip of Tom Sawyer and you'll see him bgg using them for the low notes during Getty's keyboard parts.
For instrumentals, I lean towards The Main Monkey Business or Malignant Narcissism. All of them are great, but for composition, the Main Monkey Business is sublime. For simple rawness, Maglinant Narcissism. Really though, all of them are so great, nobody can be faulted for whichever they pick as their favorite.
thing that always gets me about that clip, is the crowd!! ;0 some edits very quickly showing some of the most beautiful SA babes just entralled by alex' flaminco-style rock... :) seems to always say to me, "keep doing what your doin'"... ;) cuz you never know where you might end up playin' a show!! :)
It's interesting that , outside the USA, RUSH is one of the biggest bands of the World ever and seemly nobody knows that in America. I was in that concert and Brazil waited almost 25 years a Rush show, so, there were more than 100,000 people EAGER to sing ALL the songs ( even the instrumental ones!😊). But, nice video. 👏
If you want to really hear the masterful nature of YYZ, listen to the studio version. The crowd's involvement in the Rio version is cool, but they drown out the quieter parts.
Want some vocals after that jam session? The Spirit of Radio live right here: ruclips.net/video/QuL_euRslTc/видео.html Brazilians are on another level down there. Great reaction. Rush and Dream Theater, necessary for all musicians. Thanks Jerome. 🤘
Listen to Xanadu next. The Permanent Waves album is stylistically different from other RUSH albums. The Spirit Of Radio is considered 1 of their best pieces. 2112 is an epic journey unlike any other in the history of Rock n Roll. ⚡🎸⚡💥💥
From Rush I prefer live version of La Villa Strangito or album version of Spirit of Radio. Have to shout out to Orion by Metallica as another great instrumental. If you want to understand their music aspect that’s your song
this was fantastic i never heard of them have you heard of joanna connor no listen than to walkin, blues joanna connor bbq and blues norwood 2014 she plays in her backyard ,s bbq party
The drummer Neil Peart is considered by some to be the best drummer of all time. I would have to put Danny Carey right next to him or a step above. I've been a big Rush fan since 1980 and got to see them live. Amazing! You should listen to the studio version to really hear it clearly without all the cheering.
They were underrated, no question. Instrumentals are not appreciated by enough people. Here is another group which is REALLY underrated, but is destined to explode: Asterism: ruclips.net/video/IfxMi0Bx4x0/видео.html&pbjreload=10 you have to check this out, there is no better metal intrumental band in the world today.
You know you've got something when the audience sings along. You know you've REALLY got something when the audience sings along to an instrumental!
Evidently it actually ISN'T an instrumental, it's just that the lyrics are in inaudible Portuguese. #whoknew

Thats Rush fans!

They were still in their 50s for this show.
@@HollowGolem you must be a hit at parties.....
@@MoreIrrelevantTwaddle LOL. Hey, I love accuracy in the details... Chris can come jam with me and my nerds.
Unbelievable crowd enjoying an unbelievable band.
Go Blue!
This was their first and only tour in Brazil, where they found out that Brazilians were manic Rush fans starved to see them live. They behaved this way at every show they played on that tour.
Lee plays that bass like a lead guitar. Huge talent in those 3 guys.
He's the lead bassist. ;)
Those South American crowds are just amazing.
Best YYZ quote: The instruments are the vocals.
the 3 of them were singing
The crowd is singing to an instrumental let that sink in. RUSH is a universal language!
Brazilian fans are on a completely different level... Awesome.
YYZ = toronto pearson intl airport code name. this song really kinda plays around with the morse code transmission (YYZ in morse code over and over) that the airport puts out which is the repetition right at the beginning of the song.
Next Rush live should be "Xanadu" (Exit..Stage Left, 1981).
Geddy Lee's double-neck bass is like...the best thing ever.
I 2nd this!
Cullen Case no The Trees leading into Xanadu 👍
As a fan for 40 years (yep getting older), and as a Torontonian, it's great to see Rush get props whether you like, love or loathe the band.

I was fortunate enough to see RUSH in concert during their Time Machine tour in West Palm Beach. They rocked this song. I don't know if someone mentioned letters, YYZ is Airport Identification for city of Toronto.
My fav band! I went to their concert the day before this one, here in Sao Paulo. The amazing Power Trio!
All 3 of them are extremely talented... Seeing them live was a great experience!
As you saw, they let the crowd do the singing, and the band loved it.
Those are great too
for me all Rush is Rush...it was before Neils ´s departure...now is more than ever.
watch his drum solo from this show! Neal Peart is the Professor! FYI, he also writes all of the lyrics. This band has something that few others have, they play as unit, but sound like virtuoso's.
The crowd is so hyped thy're singing to an INSTRUMENTAL!!
Yep...you'd NEVER see that in the U.S.
...Unfortunately.
In Canada we say “YYZed”
Also, try “Where’s My Thing?”
Visual proof of the power of music....
Rush is my favorite band. It feels good to watch you enjoy these songs. Xanadu live Exit...Stage Left would be a great experience. The album version of The Spirit of Radio. The album version of By-Tor and the Snowdog also will keep you smiling
Working Man - live in Cleaveland
I agree.. this is an AMAZING version!!!
They're different enough to do the studio version and the Cleveland version in the same video. But if you're only doing one, yeah, do Cleveland.
Never seen Rush live but, as far as I know from live albums, their concert crowds have always been the wildest.
Rush were AMAZING live! I had the chance to see them on the Clockwork Angels tour. They played for about 3 1/2 hours.
I was fortunate enough to see RUSH in concert during their Time Machine tour in West Palm Beach.
@@ExUSSailor Like Clockwork Angels, Time Machine tour, they played same amount of time as Clockwork Angels 3 1/2 hours.

😂 We were singing so loud at Madison Sq Garden in NYC to YYZ, you could barely hear Neil's guitar! RIP Professor! No 50th Anniversary show.....
The best Rush instrumental? No, that would be La Villa Strangiato.
M. Gideon Hoyle agreed! Or malignant narcissism
La Villa Strangiato live:

Alex Lifeson even makes a mistake in this version. Very rare. 🍁🍁🍁🍁🤘
@@Hadrian1616 Its is. Neil Peart also made a rare mistake, or just a variation. The second roll on the toms he adds an extra pair of hits.
I have to agree about Villa ... but this is a pretty good second!
In my opinion live versions of Xanadu from Exit Stage Left
The Spirit of The Radio is awesome.
DREAM THEATER
"INSTRUMEDLEY"
is another AMAZING session

I was there and we sang an entire instrumental song!
In Canada we don't say YYZee.
We say YYZed. (;
RUSH forever!
Great reaction and video! These guys are so talented - it's fun to see people get to understand their music and appreciate it.
An absolutely fantastic live one would be Red Sector A form the Grace Under Pressure tour. It’s about the Holocaust in Germany during WW2. The guitar is so clean sounding, and has no bass guitar but the way they fill that void with keyboards and drum sections is nothing short of epic.
Its all about the transitions with RUSH. with 3 people and so loud.
THE SPIRIT OF RADIO..... the perfect Rush song.
Something most people dont notice or mention is Alex Lifeson also has moog pedals and uses them often. Watch a live clip of Tom Sawyer and you'll see him bgg using them for the low notes during Getty's keyboard parts.
This was the first time they had EVER played in BRAZIL and the fans were ecstatic.

For simple rawness, Maglinant Narcissism. Really though, all of them are so great, nobody can be faulted for whichever they pick as their favorite.
I have only seen one reaction to TMMB and Malignant Narcissism and I don't know why, they both are great.

fab tune from a fab band. i was 14 when this tune was released. still love it

Mystic Rhythms. Amazing drums at the start.
Best live performance with Rush. Except the all other ones that will say! -Rush for life.
Nice reaction, may I suggest Xanadu for "Exit stage left" or the studio version of Spirt of Radio
THREE HUMANS,!!!!, THREE.... .😲
La villa strangiato is the best instrumental of all time
Rush - malignant narcissism.
Amazing song.
YYZ was the call sing of there Air Trafic controle tower.
2112 Temples Of Syrinx - Considered the magnum opus. Villa Strangiato - best instrumental, Red Barchetta - Most inspired work
Spirit of the Radio
I always laugh at these YYZ reactions because they're always waiting for the lyrics to start lol.
Cool! I'd highly recommend The Spirit of Radio and Working Man.
I subscribed just because you're doing Rush songs
Spirit of the radio bro.. then working man
Just wanted to point out the introduction is Morse code for YYZ
If you want to really hear the masterful nature of YYZ, listen to the studio version. The crowd's involvement in the Rio version is cool, but they drown out the quieter parts.
La Villa Strangiato.
Best 3 man band in history , or maybe the Best ...thanks for the vid..Rush is a journey you must take.
Tom Hanks kills it on the drums.
There's a Neil Peart cam view available on YT too.
and remember it's YYZed
Music Royalty. Enjoy. RIP Neil Peart
Want some vocals after that jam session?
The Spirit of Radio live right here: ruclips.net/video/QuL_euRslTc/видео.html

The Permanent Waves album is stylistically different from other RUSH albums. The Spirit Of Radio is considered 1 of their best pieces.
2112 is an epic journey unlike any other in the history of Rock n Roll. ⚡🎸⚡💥💥
La Villa and Leave that thing alone
I like how educated you are on music theory that you can analyze it, not just listen.
Another RUSH fan is born! It’s a boy!
From Rush I prefer live version of La Villa Strangito or album version of Spirit of Radio.
Have to shout out to Orion by Metallica as another great instrumental. If you want to understand their music aspect that’s your song
2112 if you feel like reacting to a 20 min song.
2112 Overture, Temples of Syrinx. 20 plus mins of awesome. Buckle up😎
as others have said, check out La Villa Strangiato, but the album version first *then* the live.
live Subdivisions
The Camera Eye.
this was fantastic i never heard of them have you heard of joanna connor no listen than to walkin, blues joanna connor bbq and blues norwood 2014 she plays in her backyard ,s bbq party
THey were home and they were Jazzed.
RIP Professor Peart 😢
this is the best YYZ to react to...
masters..best 3 ..ever.
that would be YY Zed (Toronto Airport)
It took a while to build an audience like this for their music, they were too fresh and new and people didn't get it first.
If I remember correctly it rained all day and they had no sound check.
Listen to the studio version, LOUD!!

Xanadu live is pretty amazeballs :) Peace!
Check out Rush in Rio Live.
Yes this is Epic.

2112 is a must!
Xanadu, Exit stage left. Definitely check that out.
try "Natural Science" !! - AND "The Camera Eye" !!
No. Here in Ontario Canada, We call Z Zed, So it's said as YY ZED... A Other outstanding band from Ontario Canada is "Motion Device"
