Thank you ladies for doing this. I'm glad you enjoyed it and it was something different for you to see. Nice reaction. Here's a little tidbit.... the very beginning is morse code for YYZ.(where Neil is playing it). Thanks again and cheers from Canada 🇨🇦🤘🤘🤘🤘
This concert was in 2002. About the washing machines, the band would wash some of the clothes from the audience during the concert. My shirt was washed. I don't know what detergent they used, but that shirt has smelled spring fresh ever since.
Sorry to say it, but I'm pretty sure Rush never had washing machines on stage. They had dryers, which is what those machines are. Washing machines would require a water hookup and a drain. Water is seen as a bad thing around so much electrical equipment. It wouldn't be readily available and would be too much trouble to run lines for no value. Oh, and then they'd also have to have dryers too to dry the clothes once washed. Everything I've read says they only used dryers and those dryers were loaded with promotional shirts which were different than the shirts the public could buy,. Geddy and Alex would throw them out to the crowd at the end of the show. That certainly was what I saw at the show I attended during that era. I believe the dryers were run on the no-heat setting or the heating element was disabled for safety. Furthermore, the idea that they had staff collecting shirts from random people in the crowd and then made sure the right shirt got back to the right person doesn't seem at all likely. If you have some documentation showing that Rush actually washed clothes on stage, I'd love to see it.
The most amount of noise created by just three guys. Brilliant noise. So glad I got to see them... their 2nd last ever show (Irvine, CA)... Amazing. RIP Neil.
Not that "the Cats out of the bag" 😻 welcome to Rushland and please do more Rush , great reaction im new to this channel, i hit all the bells and whistles below
I'm a drummer and Neil Peart's been my idol since I started playing drums. They don't call him the "Professor" for nothing. You need to watch a couple of his drum solos to see just how good he was. The best compliment I heard about him is "If he's not your favorite drummer, he's your favorite drummer's favorite drummer." Died of brain cancer in January 2020. A true virtuoso on the drums!
Geddy’s sense of humour. He felt Al’s amps were leaning the stage to one side. So Geddy decided a few washing machines would even out the stage...and became a staple.
Great job girls! First time viewer. As a 57 year old classic rock singer/keyboardist/guitarist, I've performed a few Rush tunes. Did you notice, the crowd didn't needs lyrics; they just sang along with the guitar. LOL! Keep 'em comin'!
Enjoyable reaction. The cat/bag scramble was funny. The Time Stands Still story was cool. Since you have the word "Still" tattoo, you can also use the song Still by the Commodores as your song as well, great tune. Hope you two do more Rush. Cheers.
Great and beauuuuutiful reaction. Rush is a phenomenal band... saw them in concert along with another 3 piece rock band called Triumph. Great reactions ladies You really really need to listen to Melody Cristea of Liliac (Lil-EEE-ack). Start with the video called Nothing (original song). Looking forward to more reactions.
Very nice, ladies! Thanks! If you keep doing Rush reactions, the Rush Army will show up and love you. BTW, the cat thing… that happened to my cat once, too. Got his head caught in a Walmart bag, and went full-tilt boogie through the house until I could catch him and help. 😂
Your comment that Neil was "at work" was accurate. As the years went by, his desire to endure the grind of touring reduced, plus with their music, he had to work like a dog. Rush plays a 2.5 - 3 hour show, covering 25-28 songs generally. He used to say playing their shows was "like running a marathon while solving mathematical equations". Very physically demanding, very mentally demanding.
Their decision to retire in 2015 (I believe) was greatly driven by Neil's tendonitis, and some health issues by Alex. They refused to lower their standards.
YYZ is the airport code for Toronto International Airport, which is where the guitarist Alex Lifeson and bass player Geddy Lee are both from. The late Neil Peart (pronounced peert) is from Port Dalhousie, Ontario. When the boys were on the road for long stretches they were all happy to see the YYZ tags on their luggage because it meant they were heading home. As stated above, the opening/intro is the actual morse code for YYZ.
More fun facts about this video: This is taken from their "Rush In Rio" DVD at the end of their 2002 Vapor Trails tour. Btw, this was their first tour in 5 years...coming back from a "hiatus" resulting from the tragedies in Neil Peart's life in the late 90's. They had never before played in Rio prior to this show and their fan base there is RABID as demonstrated in this video and throughout the entire concert. I saw this same show in Charlotte in July 2002 but would surely loved to have been there in Rio with that crowd, which is the largest they ever played to (around 60, 000 in Macarena stadium).
Alex and Geddy once played their biggest hit,Tom Sawyer, on Guitar Hero...and lost. This was recorded on their first tour back after Neil left the band following his daughter and wife's deaths in 1997.
LMAO!!!!! I literally laughed out loud when the question was asked about when this came out, and the mistaken answer was given. :-D The 'album' with the song *"YYZ"* (pronounced why-why-zed), was released in *1981* BUT the concert clip that You two are watching (*Rush In Rio*) was recorded in *2002* (with the concert video being released in 2003) Something to remember is, that the boys were *in their 50's* doing their *typica*l approximately *2 and a half to 3 hour long (29 song) concert*. In a Brazilian soccer stadium with either 40,000 or 60,000 (depending on which city this was filmed) adoring fans, some of whom probably had 'parents dancing/jumping and singing beside them (maybe even grandparents liol)
The video was really amazing! I have to say that I am myself a huge fan of Rush....So much that I started buying their albums on both digital and vinyl and trust me, the vinyl gives you the best sound experience you could ever imagine!! BTW if I could suggest you one of their most amazing piece they ever made, it would be to listen to : Cygnus X-1 from their album Hemispheres. I know it's a bit longer than YYZ but the lyrics is beyond amazing!
These huge shows from Rio's Soccer Stadium hold about 200,000 people! No lyrics, yet the crowd was SINGING along to the instrumentals! Yes! Neil Peart and the band WORK! In fact, their first success in America came in 1974 with the song "Working Man". This was at the time, before Neil joined the band and they still had their old/original drummer (john Rutsey). When the song became famous and the band received an American record deal (with Mercury Records) they came to a cross roads with John Rutsey, as he was ill-prepared to go on a full National tour, due to health reasons. Therefore, the band had a little over 2 weeks to find a new drummer! They held auditions and met Neil Peart and the rest in history!! Neil's first album with the band was the 1975 release "Fly By Night". I highly recommend you two watch another live video from Rush, from their 2011 "Time Machine Tour", of the song "Working Man"!! It is totally amazing! And, this one's got lyrics! So look up Rush live Working Man, Time Machine Tour and let 'er rip!!! Great reaction , ladies! You are very pretty and fun to watch!
The washing machines were a joke by the band. Behind the guitarist, Alex Lifeson, there was always a wall of amplifiers. But Geddy Lee, the bassist, usually went direct into the board with his bass, so there was a big visual “hole” behind him. Geddy decided to have some fun with that and put washers and dryers behind. The band would pull out freshly washed shirts to toss into the crowd at the end. Then it became a running gag: chicken rotisserie’s were my favourite.
My little buddy Jake got his tail wrapped in a plastic bag one time, ran all over the house. For the rest of his life anytime we changed a garbage bag or did anything with a plastic bag, he took off. Been gone about 15 years now. He and his brother were the BEST.
Rush is a band you either love or hate, without much inbetween. I love Rush, and they put on one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Also, Barry (Berry?) won the interwebs today.
People who hate Rush often have little understanding of music. People are free to like what they like and hate what they don't, but the talent of Rush is undeniable. The most oft-cited reason for hating Rush is Geddy Lee's vocals, but the point remains that Geddy Lee was an excellent vocalist. Certainly not among the best in the world, but people FAR too often criticize his vocals for just the octave of his voice without understanding just how skilled he was. Hating Rush would be like hating the work of Michelangelo. One is free to not like his work, but one is a moron if they deny his talent.
First time seeing you two reacting. Have to say I am now subscribed, you are both really adorable. The crowd sing a long with an instrumental was pretty wild to me the first time I saw it. Check out The Glorious Sons if you get a chance, S.O.S. (Sawed off shotgun) is a good one.
Actually, the ONLY change in members (at least of any note) was when Neil Peart took over on drums (and lyrics) after their very first album. That, to the best of my knowledge, is it. Same three members - Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee, and Peart - ever since.
When's the last time you heard an audience sing along to an _INSTRUMENTAL_ ? Another cool rock instrumental is "Frankenstein" by The Edgar Winter Group.
Hola chicas, hey girls, been missin u! Rush, these guys are so freaking good....bad shit drummer ´passed away not too long ago after badass illness, yyz means Toronto. in IATA lingo..yep, they have been on my side since like forever, I'm 67! this is progressive rock........great song guys and live is freaking epic! Hey...please do some more Aurora or maybe Brit band The 1975 with beloved Matty Healy frontman.Great song, great reaction, Mr.incredibly wicked bass player and vocalist is Geddy Lee, whatta band! great reaction ladies...looking forward for more...luv the two of you.......Peace!
Thanks Beautiful Ladies. Nerdy Rush fan here😁 Jazz/Fusion drummer. Thanks for your honest reaction. 'TIME STAND STILL'. ... You have cool friends. Your a really good sport to get that "Still" tattoo.... Take care ladies. Keep your minds open. There's a lot of great music out there that way too many people ignore because it's not selling "Sex appeal". Maybe try some instrumental Jazz like Miles Davis "So What". John Coltrane "A Love Supreme". No vocalist, the horn players are so lyrical and beautiful, it might move you to tears. But that's just my bleeding heart musician point of view.
A couple of things. Their last album was a live album called R40. They called it that because they had finished 40 years of music. Next, this live convert happened around the year 2000, not 1981.
Maybe the best 3 man band ever. I know I'll get slack people say ZZ Top is.. I got lucky and seen Rush inn 1978 in Rupp Arena in Lexington KY A kick ass show Great Reaction Stay Safe
Those aren't washing machines, they're dryers. As technology improved, Geddy began routing his bass directly into the arena PA system, rather than through a stack of amps behind him. With no need for the amps anymore, the stage was very unbalanced, because Alex still had his huge stack of amps. So as a joke, Geddy began placing his own large equipment on his side of the stage, starting with a refrigerator, then dryers, vending machines, and later, a chicken rotisserie (with plastic chickens). FYI, most bands these days go straight into the PA system and often the stacks of amps you see on stage are empty/fakes.
You have about 50,000 people singing along to an instrumental released nearly 20 years before. YYZ is a Canadian airport so it's pronounced why why zed. When Geddy switched to patching directly into the venue's PA system and got rid of the big cabinet speakers that his bass used to feed into, he thought his side of the stage looked empty. He started populating it with various big items... in this case washing machines.
Dude i could turn you on to soooo many of their songs and other bands you've never heard before. Some of the greatest Black Sabbath songs were never released on radio....true fact ruclips.net/video/9zkRfYhIHcg/видео.html
The washing machines are there to fill space, as they play through a PA rather than individual amps. they've also had chicken rotisserie cookers there.
Rush did a whole lot of stuff all over the musical spectrum. They have the longer epics like "Xanadu," "2112," and "The Necromancer." They also have the 80s pop songs like "Territories," "Force Ten," and "Subdivisions" (and "Time Stand Still," whose 80s-tacular music video you saw). They also have instrumentals like this, "La Villa Strangiato," and "Leave That Thing Alone." In the 90's and 2000's they started to rock hard, with tunes like "Driven," "Earthshine," and "Ceiling Unlimited." They even rap on "Roll the Bones," to great cringe. Their last album is great. "BU2B," "The Wreckers," "Clockwork Angels," and "The Garden" are great songs. They wore many hats over their career and did a huge variety of stuff, some of which lost them fans along the way, but they were always looking for new sounds, new ways to make music. They never got static, never got comfortable. It's one of the best things about them.
at some point its going to dawn on them just how great neil peart was they think hes just a drummer wait until they get the lyrics probably take months before they start to get what this band actually was
love that you have an orange tabby baby!! hope he is neutered!! he also needs a companion rescue friend. how did you both not hear the crowd singing the instrumental?
Love it "time stand still"! The only change in members occurred in or around 1974 when they changed drummers from John rutsey to Neil Peart, after their first of many albums. Had that change not occured, I doubt that they would have enjoyed the long career and success they had.
About the washing machines. The guitarist would have his half of the stage with speakers and amplifiers stacked up. Geddy said the stage looked unbalanced with that but the guitarist wouldn't back down work the speakers. So Geddy started to put random things on his side of the stage. And it turned into an inside joke between the two. Lol
Omg the Kevin spacey comment was ticking hilarious. Lol there’s a music video of theirs for a song called “Fly by Night” where Neal looks like Jimmy Fallon with a mullet.
Two things (if they haven't been covered already down-thread): (1) the repetitive notes they play at the beginning of the song are played in the rhythm of the Morse-code signal for 'YYZ', and (2) the band eventually went to plugging their instruments directly into PA systems and they stopped using on-stage amps but they then found they had lots of empty space on stage with them without the amps, so they started putting silly stuff on stage with them to fill the space... they've used washing machines, vending machines, rotisserie chicken ovens, etc. etc. on-stage with them over the years.
Geddy went direct, but Alwx still had a wall of amps, effects and cabinets which lopsided the stage. The various random equipment evened it out and added their humor.
I was at this show at Maracanâ Stadium. Kisses from Brazil... A secret about this song: He didn't pick up the stick when he threw it up hahahaha But he quickly picked up another one and didn't get in the way of anything! Did you realize that it is only an instriumental song and yet people were singing? I helped ....
Geddy Lee was my inspiration for singing,no joke!.Neil was a phenomenal drummer as well as a songwriter. Many of their songs,as Jim can tell you were based off of Ayn Rand novels
Ok you guys got a subscribe from me! Fellow nerds and willing to try my favorite band of all time. I first heard these guys as a teen and was hooked ever since. I am a prog rock/prog metal fan and hope you go a little more prog in what you try out. Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Yes, King Crimson, Pink Floyd. Try any of those anytime on your own. You may enjoy and may not but it is different and being fellow nerds I think you might enjoy! :) Great reactions of the few I have seen so far. Keep 'em coming!
You ladies need to see Xanadu live from Exit Stage Left. It will blow your socks off. Great reaction...Thanks! Xanadu linkage: ruclips.net/video/VuHS-gjMiVw/видео.html
Rush is the absolute best! There is no 3 piece band that can even come close to what these gentlemen accomplished in their 42 year career. Neil Peart (pronounced as if it rhymes with ear) was the best rock drummer ever, and as equally as accomplished lyricist. You should do more Rush for sure!
Ar the beginning of the video you said the band members changed over the years and just wanted to correct you on this... The original drummer was John Rutsey. Neil Peart *(Pron. PEERT)* replaced him after the first album was released but before they toured. There hasn't been any other line up changes since July 1974.
Morse code for YYZ?!?! How cool is that?!! Thank you Jim for sharing, sticking with us and for the request!
You've good taste in music brother \m/
A little more,YYZ is the airport code for Toronto, Canada. Their home base.
OK, so much beauty in this video. Keep on. ✌️
Thanks Jim. I did not know that, about the beginning. WOW!
Yes he looks like if Kevin spacey and Tom Hanks had a baby
The drummer passed away this January. RIP Neil Peart. He is regarded as one of the the best drummers ever to walk the planet.
Most drummers walk the planet
He's the GOAT
God's house band needed a drummer.
I encourage you both to explore Rush! You will definitely not be disappointed!
I am brazilian fan. I saw. Fantastic!!!! RIP Neil
You know it's good when your song is an instrumental and the crowd is still singing along.

Thousands of people singing along to an instrumental. Who needs lyrics when the music's that good
Larry O'Donnell Right! An arena full of people singing along with an instrumental. How many other bands does that happen to as regularly?
Rush is a lifelong journey.
Geddy Lee is one of my favorite bass players. Glad y'all pointed out how amazing he is. :D

I did notice that! I do that now as well when I listen to it ;)
Y'all may enjoy "Working Man Time Machine Tour live in Cleveland".

This song was released in 81, but this video was recorded in the 2000s.
Excuse me? Where did you get this information?
John Shea Rush in Rio was released in October 2003. YYZ is on the Moving Pictures album, which was released in 1981.

Most think Neil looks like Tom Hanks. Lol. The crowd during this som was crazy. Literally singing an instrumental!
Yeah it was probably just the lighting and video quality. Yeah the crowd was incredible!

This song was nominated for a Grammy as best instrumental. They were robbed by a song by Police that didn’t come close. A popularity contest.
The crowd provides the lyrics : )
Hello beautiful ladies get ready to dive into the honey hole is these 3 gifted beyond musicians and the Rio crowd is insane bravo to rio
Silly ginger cat. Made my morning.
He's a riot!
Guitar Hero was awesome. It introduced me to all kinds of great music I'd never have otherwise heard!
A couple of things. Their last album was a live album called R40. They called it that because they had finished 40 years of music. Next, this live convert happened around the year 2000, not 1981.
If you want to react to a Rush song with lyrics: "Tom Sawyer", "Limelight" or "Red Barchetta".
Roll The Bones
Yes.
Maybe the best 3 man band ever.
I know I'll get slack people say ZZ Top is..
I got lucky and seen Rush inn 1978 in Rupp Arena in Lexington KY
A kick ass show
Great Reaction Stay Safe
I like ZZ Top but they couldn't carry Rush's jock straps.
Three man bands that maybe could sort of compare to Rush but probably not although great...Jimmy Hendrix Experience, The Police but yea not Rush.
Rush>>>>>>>>>>>>>>zztop
He started populating it with various big items... in this case washing machines.
wow that cat was in a rush :) never heard this band before but i see ther t shirts everywere
Hahaha nice one!
@@LEANNxARI :)
Dude i could turn you on to soooo many of their songs and other bands you've never heard before. Some of the greatest Black Sabbath songs were never released on radio....true fact ruclips.net/video/9zkRfYhIHcg/видео.html

Back Street Kids is the last link i sent ya \m/
The washing machines are there to fill space, as they play through a PA rather than individual amps. they've also had chicken rotisserie cookers there.
Always good to start with studio versions...then you "get" the song before seeing a live performance. Love the dog moment...
Great stuff :) Good journey...Peace!
at some point its going to dawn on them just how great neil peart was
they think hes just a drummer
wait until they get the lyrics
probably take months before they start to get what this band actually was
love that you have an orange tabby baby!! hope he is neutered!! he also needs a companion rescue friend. how did you both not hear the crowd singing the instrumental?
instrumental also known as song with no words Cat made me laugh i needed it with day i.ve had
Barristan is quite the hoot! Glad he could brighten your day ;)
The Chime Niel plays at the beginning is actually Morse Code for YYZ.
Love it "time stand still"! The only change in members occurred in or around 1974 when they changed drummers from John rutsey to Neil Peart, after their first of many albums. Had that change not occured, I doubt that they would have enjoyed the long career and success they had.
rush in rio was in 2002
About the washing machines.
This concert is from 2003. The song was released in 1981.
It is on Rock Band and it's HARD!
Thumbs up for the cat trap. The video reaction was an added bonus.
Everybody jumping on the bandwagon with these Rush reactions. Good !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep it up !!!!!!!!!!
Geddy Lee was my inspiration for singing,no joke!.Neil was a phenomenal drummer as well as a songwriter. Many of their songs,as Jim can tell you were based off of Ayn Rand novels
Check out the studio version also, so you can really appreciate the musicianship displayed in this song.
They've not had any changes in personnel since Neil Peart joined the band in 1974. (R.I.P. to the Professor)
Great reactions of the few I have seen so far. Keep 'em coming!
You ladies need to see Xanadu live from Exit Stage Left. It will blow your socks off. Great reaction...Thanks!

The most difficult song ever performed by three virtuosos
The "A Show Of Hands" live version has the best drum solo ever in it
I agree to disagree... rush in rio has his most ambitious solo recorded.
@@Neil2112 no ! His best drum solo was this...in Frankfurt for the R30 DVD ! ruclips.net/video/LWRMOJQDiLU/видео.html
I stand by my opinion. ruclips.net/video/vRC4RAX4peE/видео.html
That "Hello" was cute.
Fun fact the intro bass and drums is doing morse code for YYZ
Ar the beginning of the video you said the band members changed over the years and just wanted to correct you on this... The original drummer was John Rutsey. Neil Peart *(Pron. PEERT)* replaced him after the first album was released but before they toured. There hasn't been any other line up changes since July 1974.
Oh my bad, thanks for the info!
@@LEANNxARI you are good. I really liked that you had some knowledge of the band and did a little research before you did the reaction. 👍
Do "TIME STAND STILL" what a great song! 👍
