Alston Line Last Days

A video of the Haltwhistle to Alston line taken just before the line closed on 3 May 1976. The line ran along the course of the South Tyne River and had significant earthworks and viaducts which still survive. The southern part of the line between Alston and Slaggyford is now preserved as the narrow gauge South Tyneside Railway.
