You wanna watch that bass habit Lee. Sure you start out, you think you can handle it. It’s just a bit of fun, a diversion from guitar but then you start to use proper finger technique (yeah, I saw that), then you’ve bought a lifetime subscription to Scott’s Bass Lessons and a Fender Rumble which soon becomes a full fat 900w amp and 212. Before long you’re saying things like “sure, I play guitar but I’m mostly a bass player”. It’s a dangerous road to travel Lee, a dangerous road indeed.
😅😅😅
It's all true man. I've played guitar for 10 years. I've played bass on stage in a band instead and got so much gear for it. I don't even want to play bass! 😭😂
Ampeg SVT stack incoming
Wow, exactly what happened to me and exactly what I did. Scotts the best. I love my basses! Different than my 6 string electric guitars, but just as much fun.
Scott’s bass lessons surely does the trick! I also had to second guess my guitar playing after just one week.
Came back 4 days later. Analog or digital, this are the best great "3 classic sounds" emulations I've ever heard. Simple but complete controls. Lots of features. Fair price. STEREO. Made me reconsider my whole setup!
I don't get why people are saying it doesn't sound great. It DOES sound great and it costs less than an Iridium. Plus it has WAY more i/o options. If I was in the market for a direct-in, I'd grab one of these in a heartbeat.
Great Video, Thanks Captain and Danish Pete, so next NAMM Show (if it happens, fingers crossed) we’ll supply you with our best wine. 😆
Y un par de balticas
Juan Pablo Barra Burotto un 6 pack de Andes.
Felicitaciones por un producto de calidad mundial cabros!!
Very cool guys! Chilean red wine really is the best
C-H-I !!!!!!!!
I'd love to see a comparison between this and the Iridium. They seem to travel different paths in chasing the same objective.
Oh. The other thing I really noticed with this video is that the Dane sounds really killer.
The problem with these demos is that Pete makes EVERYTHING sound so well, it doesn't matter what the hardware is.
We all have to figure out our own best way to not be Pete. 😂
The Simplifier is the greatest innovation in guitar amplification since the 1959 Fender Bassman 5F6A. I cannot wait to get both the Simplifier and the Simplifier Bass Station.
ridiculous paid comment
Wow! I sometimes build effect pedals and know from experience how tricky it can be to fit all the hardware (pots, jacks, power, switch etc.) in an enclosure. Looking at all the jacks and knobs on this one I'm amazed with the ammount of features they managed to cram in as well. And all analog...
I sold my Iridium and got this. Cheaper but way more useful features for me (FX loop, Aux-In, Phone level, XLR outs). Great video!
Tony ; What about the difference in sound? Which one of the two do you prefer and why?
What are your thoughts comparing both??? Cheers!
Yes - really interested to know how you think it sounds vs the iridium. Does it take pedals better? Considering doing the same.
Here’s a bit of a comparison:
ruclips.net/video/dQWtZbAXNTc/видео.html
Awesome! Not that I absolutely need this pedal, but, oh, I do very much want it! I want to practice with my pedalboard, and I want to record music late in the evening without disturbing the neighbors. I do have a Line 6 Pod HD Pro, which is a bit old now, but it still sounds good. But I want to do more pedals and amp recording, to make it simpler.
I really must buy one!
That intro sounded great, even on my lousy, laptop speakers!
You should visit Chile once the pandemic is over...nothing better than drinking wine while watching any of our landscapes..greetings from Concepción!
I love the tone and that it's analog. I find I my ears get tired of digital amp sims pretty quickly--not because they sound fake (they don't) but because they sound a bit too pristine and harsh after a while. I feel like I could play the Simplifier for hours.
Pete’s tone on the intro is absolutely awesome
That is the most luscious pedal I’ve ever heard.
Everything Pete touches turns to audio gold 🤩
I really enjoy every video with Lee playing the bass. He is just the kind of guy to make a good bass player, no super ego and a humble person :)
Ive played the Simplifier in Australia.
Its Analog, sounds better than the Iridium - Yes the Iridium is Digital.
Recommended for People in Worship Bands, Or cover Bands, Duo;s,
Works Fantastic with a Pedalboard setup..
What makes you say Simplifier is better that Iridium? I am on this tough moment of choose between one or the other. Cheers
I ordered one of these from Anderton's a month ago, after seeing it in action in a previous video. It arrives tomorrow and I can't wait.
Please update your post when you get it? I am curious to know if its a waste of money or not before i buy it.
@@VapnFagan I'll let you know...
Andy Hyam What can I say, my bae? You’re welcome. You’re welcome.
I pre-ordered one from DSM&H before Xmas, after seeing a couple of RUclips demos. It’s now the heart of my lockdown rig. There isn’t a bad sound in it.
Ordered mine in March, finally came in yesterday. It’s worth every penny and every day spent waiting.
I just got mine yesterday, the Guitar version, not BASS (after a long preorder wait due to component shortage from the current pandemic), and I have to agree, this is the BEST Analog preamp I have ever had the opportunity to play. It takes pedals extremely well. It SERIOUSLY loves the Tone City Durple BTW, sounds KILLER agains the "MS BRIT" setting. Great video!
Captain’s got some bass chops. Tastefully understated. Let’s hear more bass in jams and reviews. Makes for a great balance when we can hear guitar stuff against bass.
28:28 it is a fundamental law of bass playing that if you put on a bit of delay and a lot of reverb it is compulsory to play a bit of One Of These Days
23:21 Sounds like you need to do a Chapman blindfold test of "analogue vs digital amp sims".
I grabbed one of these in trade. I was very impressed.
I have to say the production value of this video is one of your best.
Pete: *Turns mid knob up
Pete: “Yeah that definitely adds the mids.”
That’s why it’s there Pete 😂
I wish there would be a comparison between this and the strymon iridium.
There are some if you search RUclips

Include the Neunaber Neutron. It saves a lot of space.
@@hootowl6354 Neuron is amazing, but needs an app to display all the secondary settings. I found it so versatile that I just couldn't get my tone dialed in. I'd get close & then suddenly wasn't close.
I’m watching this with a smile on my face, the sounds are really really good! I’m very tempted to get this to get a range of amp tones for recording. What a great bit of kit
Pete is really feeling it!!! Great tone and playing.
Another awesome morning with the Captain and Pete! Good morning/afternoon gents! Love listening to you guys at work. Makes the mornings awesome.
Opening bass lick reminded me of David Essex, Rock On. Everybody now..."Ooh, hey did you rock n roll, rock on - ooh my soul..."
This is way better option that Strymon's Iridium IMHO.
Cheers here from Santiago, Chile. Yes, we have great Wine.
As always love your videos and love this guitar preamp!! Sounds great, I'm looking into it.
Greetings from the UK Nicolas! Hope all is good over there!
@@LordBransty Hey! For the moment all ok here, we are in lockdown though until tomorrow. Hope things get better from now on.
Great playing :) (name a more iconic Duo 🖤🎶🔥🎸🎸) and fantastic tools for someone, who wants to practice all night long. FX stereo makes it even more useful.
Had Torpedo Cab M+ for a few days for testing. I think, that Simplifier delivers with so many i/o possibilities.
Thanks for this brilliant and deep review.
That's the best analog cab sim I've heard by a LONG shot.
Pete is just genuinely such a cool dude.
Man that intro spoke to my soul. Thanks for that, I needed it!
GREAT VIDEO! By far the best demo I have heard of the DSM Simplifier. I have one on order and can't wait to try vs. my Strymon Iridium (which I love). After all of this time and testing I agree with the Captain about that ever so slight "disconnect" with digital - TRUE!
Greg Amann ; Please keep me informed! I don't know which one I should buy, the Simplifier or the Iridium. I'd appreciate it. 😊
Hey Greg! Please let me know about your thoughts on the Iridium vs Simplifier!
I would love to hear your opinion on the differences as well!
@@gergoracz5718 me too!
That intro was awesome. Pete's playing was as Tasty as ever. Nice bass playing too. Humboldt Simplifier had gorgeous guitar tones. I'd be curious to hear it vs. a Strymon Iridium or a Quilter or the Walrus unit?
he is beginner on bass
no miracle in this music lol
this is awesome, finaly able to use my stereo pedals through the FOH while allso having them run into my mono amp
Wow! I am amazed at how good that Simplifier sounds
This is an incredible product. If I were an amp manufacturer, this would seriously worry me. And this technology is only going to get better and cheaper.
Nice bass playing, Lee!
Ok now I know why I didnt take Cap seriously as a player.... until now! The bass player aesthetic fits him like a glove :) Also Pete defo has corona lol
Damn Pete can play!
“Extensively the same thing, albeit with different knobs and buttons.” - Cap’t Lee Anderton
What he meant was "ostensibly" the same thing.
The whole 'feel' issue between Analog and Digital is what I have been saying for years. I suck at hearing the difference between the two, especially these days...And I can't get either to sound great anyway...BUT, on a good day, when I'm really one with my guitar, digital absolutely FEELS different to my valve amp, and that matters to me as the player. My tone always sucks, but at least the feel of my valve amp makes me want to play my guitar...and that matters
I have the exact opposite thing going on. My tone is amazing, but my head gets fucked up by the delay of an amp filling up the room. I can't play with an amp for the life of me. When I do, the tone is so much worse than digital.
@@noname-ng6sj but what about feel. if you get amazing tone but you don't connect with the feel of playing. its much inspiring.
Great video, but to my ears you've got the spread settings back to front - sounds like it was already on for the entire opening of the video as you can clearly hear the signal become more mono and lose the tell-tale stereo phasing width once Pete first flips the switch at 14:31. Amazing product though!
I think the audio from Pete's guitar is out of phase between left and right.
that intro jam is so awesome! beautiful tones and sounds. make a song out of this man!
and here i was sitting totally diggin and grooving the captains bass playing......
im getting mine delivered tomorrow after having to wait over a month due to shortage and im also guessing high demand. im so excited for this. it sounds amazing!
Would love to see a shootout between this, atomic amplifier box (which I have) and the strymon iridium! Is it worth upgrading!
Great video guys. Really impressive tones and so simply created for the user it seems. Would love to see you do a comparison video between this, a Strymon Iridium and maybe a HX stomp and then a blindfold challenge to see if Lee’s point about hearing a difference between digital and analogue is warranted 👍🏻
That intro was Epic. I'd like to hear the whole jam.
That 2x12 vertical blackstar amp always looks so cool in the background of these videos lol
That sounds good. Pete sounds good. And the Captain, your base playing is good too! 😎🤘
You should do a blindfold challenge with the simplifier and something like HX Stomp and see if you can tell the difference.
Was thinking the same when they were discussing it.
Saludos desde Santiago!!
Is this a good idea:
Electric guitar - effect pedals (compressor, overdrive, mod, delay, reverb) - cab simulator - mixer - monitor speakers?
And is buying a pre-amp a better idea instead of a cab simulator or in addition to it?
most statisfying intro on youtube video
Is it just me or did you have the spread the wrong way round? i.e.when you were saying it was off it was actually on. Sounded like it to me?
yep they had it backwards, pretty obvious through headphones
Great intro track! Loving the chorus effect.
Best video since the beginning of this crisis
Nice! Need to look into this deeper - especially the bass version.
Brilliant now I want one of these to pair up with my HXFX.
That is exactly what I've done and it's a fantastic combination
@@andrewmcclelland7346 did you put it on the loop of the hxfx?
@@jeeeeev so far I haven't. Just at the end of the chain so I can use the headphones to play at night. I was setting up putting verbs and delays in its effects loop but my patch cable end were too bulky (smaller one have been ordered). There's lots of different ways you could use it. In the effects loop for sure but I'll want to use the xlr outputs when I get to hook up to a pa. Going to by an frfr speaker for person pa at home or when I'm out. I flipping love it
Am planning to put it 4cm with the helix but not sure on cable set up 🤔
this is exactly what ive been looking for definitely buying
0:42 Pete's Face: when you just hit the sweet spot
Fantastic sound and Captain is a great bas player!
That slight feeling of disconnect the Captain is talking about is, IMHO, more prevalent in going ampless for bass and also occurs in using IEMs for bass; hence the products available to provide vibration feedback to make IEMs feel more real.
Also, I love these two together, great combination, great chemistry 🧪
Lee playing the bass and not slapping it? I think he is the chosen one...
I think you guys hit on something cool here. Hearing a tone shaping box like this in context with the bass gives you a much better idea of what it sounds like. I'm listening with headphones and this demo sounded great. Also much better when Pete's wide awake! Cheers!
Just found this so i'm way late to the party...but anyway, i'd love to see more bass + gtr in intro jams. Sounds great!
To be fair, it IS an amp. It's just a headphone amp. People have been recording with those for decades. Boston and Def leppard used Rockman analogue headphone amps to record whole albums.
amen. It's a modern headphone that dials up the options to 11.
All the rockman stuff was designed by Tom Scholz, the lead guitar player for boston.
Nice tones gents as always. Can I suggest an acoustic paradise with a rundown of resonator guitars.
OMGoodness!!! We need more jams with Lee’s bass. It was the “very thing” I needed this morning. 😎
Hope the Guildford store is open again soon... Need my fix of exploring rows of lovely guitars and kit only to purchase strings and picks!
put one of those in front of a 6/8 channel yamaha pa system with a couple of speakers and you'd have a very portable 2 person gigging station
I've tried an iridium, it was disappointing. There's just a certain 'immediacy' to the response of the simplifier that wasn't there with the Iridium. Try them and you'll understand I'm sure!
This things fx loop overdrives thoigh, I personally think iridium sounds much better
@@Livelaughlimpbizkit iridium was OK, but hit it with pedals and I found it sounds a bit fizzy and lacks definition. The fender-type sounds of this sound like a real amp and takes pedals like one which is why I like it.
Great sound, that tc pedal is pretty darn good too isn’t it.
I really like the fact that it is analog and stereo (jack and XLR) and small enough to go on a PedalTrain Nano.
It would be cool to have a foot switch for clean/dirt.
If this one really sounds good then I'm really interested.
Does this need an "always on" boost or compressor or does it sound good enough without ? :)
Great product! Fun demo - thanks and cheers guys
You know the Santiago as the capital of Chile because it was in Something About Mary!
Frank and beans!
You built the estadio olimpico?
No no just down the street, the celinto catayente towers.
Next time you’re down there I suggest you take a ganders at them yourself.
😂😂😂
Pete's tone is amazing in the intro. What is the neck pup on that tele?

Me: SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
Is it bad that I want to fly to Guildford all the way from Nashville TN just to meet The Captain and Danish Pete?!?!
We all would man....we all would
!
Everyone does
Only reason I went to Guildford! Had a work trip to London and took to the train down.
I live in Guildford and I go to the store regularly. I will tell you this: You can't move for people flying in to catch a glimpse of these famous faces. And the great thing about it is, they both just hang out and I often find that I bump into them both together in the street all the time. They are everywhere, it feels, and I guess because they're on the internet that's just something that they have to do, always making sure that their fans are satisfied with the time time that they just give up to make sure that all who wish for it can have them as friends.
Every day, man.
I'd do the same thing, man.
For those who owns this and have had tried also the iridium, which do you prefer? Planning on running it with my Stomp.
Loved this intro jam!
Wow! How did they cram all that function (analog) into such a small package. Thanks for taking the time to demo this new item. Very interesting.
Definitely magic! 🧙♂️
Years of playing tetris let me fit all those features in there.. it's pretty tight!
@@dsmnoisemaker101 can you make a black one for guitar? I hate the white color
Pete...Nice watch... is that a Seiko White Baby Monster ? ....Lee, nice change of pace on that bass..sounds good. Another excellent video. Stay well, stay safe.
My mate who lived in Santiago says it's like Croydon with palm trees.
The title tabs on my web browser are too narrow to display the letters 'og' from "The Best Analog".
I bought it and in love it’s a excellent product
6:13 is that a Seiko White Ice Monster? Good taste in watches, kudos!
How did they fit so much in such a small box?
Someone has probably already pointed this out, but Vox did, in fact, use EL34 tubes in their amps.
man that Pete has some nice sounds
Lol at 7:00 Pete describes the switch flipped over to the left as “bridge position”. I think all switches should use it this description. “Hey it’s dark in here, can you switch the light to bridge position please?”
😂
omg. Captain just needs to play bass all the time now!
The simplifier makes a return!
Got a xlr splitter for going into my scarlet solo. These are really fun no wattage amps. Luckily they just need a regular 9v cable. Works very well with O.D pedals. I find switching the cab sims, mic position, power and amp variations really useful for dialing in the right tone.
I’d highly recommend either version. They run perfectly clean. Like Pete, add some reverb or delay for color and dimension. You’ll get lost in the music in no time.
This is the closest I’ve yet seen to what I’m looking for. I’ve loved the amp/cab simulations & output options of multi-effects units and have wanted to be able to have the same thing for my pedalboard. I’ve looked at lots of options, but they all seem to miss one or two crucial things.
Super cool piece of gear! Gotta get one for home recording! Decent price, too.
