  • In this video we show everyone how to remove the master cylinder and brake booster in a 2011 Ford Edge. This exact Ford Edge is a 2011 Ford Edge. The brake booster removal process is very similar across a lot of makes and models however, we suggest looking up specifics for your vehicle. We also recommend if you are not comfortable with this job, please seek professional help. This is a very serious job because you will also need to bleed all of your brake lines after completing the brake booster removal and the brake booster installation. The Ford Edge brake booster removal is not that hard, however it is fairly time consuming do to everything that needs to come off of the car to replace the brake booster, and master cylinder.

    I just changed out the booster on my 2013 edge yesterday. Rather than removing the master cylinder, wipers, covers and computer I personally found it easer to remove the intake manifold cover and slide it over. Turn the booster with the rubber boot facing left towards the intake and it will come out. Took me about 2 hours and it was done. Saves a lot of time. Especially if you are not wanting to replace or bleed the master cylinder and remove all that hardware.

      Manual says to remove the intake manifold. After removing the battery housing I was hoping there would be room to play around it. You mentioned cover so I guess the intake manifold itself is not necessary to remove?

    You can remove the booster without removing the cowl. the master cylinder has flexible braided lines. bend th MC out of the way, pull the booster toward you then flip the inside part facing down and it will slip out.

    its possible without removing nothing but the battery and intake air box. just swing the master cylinder to the right (section of braided line is flexible) and wiggle her out! this was a good job and more open but sooooo much more unnecessary work! thumbs up though.

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  9 месяцев назад +2

      So since this video I did find another way. I filmed it but haven't edited thr video yet. You can remove battery, I take and then I would recommend removing the intake manifold. And it comes out super easy from there. I tried wrestling it out without pulling the intake manifold but it was a no go. The intake manifold is only like an extra 15 minutes of work and then you don't beat on those flex lines. This method is vastly faster then what we did here.

      The brake switch needs to be reset when you replace the booster. The pedal doesn't return to exactly the same place and can keep it on. These cars have an accelerator pedal position sensor mounted on the accelerator pedal. It's all one unit. If that got damaged or the connection loosened it could affect your acceleration. It's also possible the sensor lost its home idle position from the battery being disconnected. Likewise if a vacuum line was damaged or not properly reconnected you could have an issue there as well.

    Just did this to my 2013 Edge.
    Woke up this morning and it was dead. I'm wondering if unplugging the computer has something to do with it. It was shifting funny also. Did you guys have this issue?

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  4 года назад +2

      I do not recall any issues with shifting. However it was a couple of years ago so it is hard to remember.

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  4 года назад +2

      Now unplugging shouldn't do anything to the booster and that shouldn't make the computer do a relearn on the transmission

    Hi.. when you finished this job, you should have filmed bleeding the brakes and linked that video. Keeps this one short but then you have the complete job on video. The brake bleeding is far more tricky than this bit. Also, could make the suggestion that at the end you could summarize by telling us all the stuff you removed but ended up not helping you (like the lower interior dash panel, except for the camera angles perhaps) and cowling. FWIW there's a guy in New Mexico that manged to remove the booster without removing anything extra or disconnecting the brake lines. He swung the master cylinder out of the way. Note that the FORD documents that if you bend those flex lines the interior will break. But, even removing the master cylinder, if you rotate the booster to point down as you remove it from the firewall you can maneuver it past the throttle body and out. A little counter intuitive, but the clearance problem from the bolts is worse than the diameter of the booster. Off to order this booster since mine squeals like crazy and the pedal is all sponge until near the end of travel. The dreaded "ripped diaphram" issue from the extended warranty. Don't trust the dealer to do it and with covid I'm 3 days past the "in service date"

      I am about to release a second video on this. As my sister's car failed amd needed a booster and master cylinder replacement. There is an easier way with pulling the ibtake manifold off.

      Man intense lol. So I did change camera setting so this is no longer a problem. As for josh and me giving each other a hard time well we done make videos together as much as we use to but we will still mess with each other. At the end of the day it is still a decent video but has room for improvement and this was early in the channel.

    Flashlight? Get an LED shoplite. Have your camera guy actually man the camera. Lay off the lite beer. Less BS narrative. Show the steps (you should have went with the half-hour version). Film more detail with less cutaways (plain lazy).

      Lmao. It amazes me how keyboard warriors act. Instead of giving good feedback to improve the video, you feel the need to act like this. Anyway all of our videos have improved because this was a very early video. However to date this video has helped more people than any other video we have done. I imagine it helped you too. Now if you need more detail than we show here I would recommend taking it to a professional.

    Just got mine replaced… can we take a moment to acknowledge that engineers should be required to work in the automotive repair industry before they are allowed to design anything? What a nightmare of a job this was. If they would have moved that damn ABS block down 6in it would have been a breeze- not a 3 hour ordeal that had me questioning my sanity.

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  Год назад

      Lol I agree they should be required to work on the final design at least twice before saying we're good set into production. I am releasing another video where I replace one pulling the intake manifold and getting it out that way
