Irish customers - being charged some of the highest new car prices in the whole eu - even more so for EV - the depreciation issue is very serious as Ireland has always enjoyed a large second hand car market - EV are primarily designed for new car sales similar to IPhones and so the customers are expected to suffer huge losses to keep updating to new models - wont happen - people are listening to the horror stories of losses from the ev evangelists and shrieking away from making the switch for this reason - then the charging experiences is just not good enough - Ireland need to do some serious thinking about what the strategy is for the next 10 years - the existing plan is not going to work - the BS of thinking everyone will magically want to pay much much much more money for new cars because they are electric was never a realistic plan and of course its Ireland so it has to fail before anyone actually thinks about trying to do something to address - don’t hold your breath - they haven’t a clue what their motor plan is for the next 10 days never mind the next 10 years 😅
Thanks for the detailed comment Dave. I plan to release an updated video on this topic in January. As per my original predictions the slump in EV sales has continued while Hybrid, Petrol, and Diesel sales continued to grow in H2 2024. EVs certainly have their place on Irish roads, but as you mentioned price and depreciation are worrying potential buyers.
Up north here Telsa dropped the price some cracking deals so used car prices will have to drop when you can get a new Model Y 0% apr for £349 pcm. Test drove the MG4 trophy and its class. The dealers 1 year old car will 11k miles is on sale for £19k. 2025 will be interesting.
Absolutely agree. Thanks for sharing. Even with the VRT charges down South, N.I. Electric cars are a great option for folks. 0% APR being offered by Tesla is a big inventive for those wanting a new car
Thanks for the comment. The best bet is still to head of North and the cheap VRT. Good value to be got up the North still if you can get your hands on an N.I. EV
Ireland is small enough to make EVs viable, they just need to take the VRT off.
I agree, there certainly is a place in Ireland for EVs going forward. Particularly in urban, semi urban settings.

Way to expensive still in Ireland. Import tax etc is crazy..

Might have something to do with price.
People don’t buy cars they like they buy investment. Also a lot of teslas stocks are down too.
I suppose its that balance of head vs heart isn't it?
@@HobTecCars I mean Toyota is cookin a nice electric car w a “gear” box
Nobody buys a leaf, no matter wear its is. Especially not at auction
Now VW in Germany in trouble. See what happens now with EV.
Agreed Will. Doing the same videos 10 months from now will be interesting.
