Miku did some really interesting things with the lyrics in this song, by using English phrases that sound like Japanese phrases, where the meaning in both languages are relevant to the meaning of the song. Miku added "chit-chat", meaningless conversation in English, because it sounds so similar to the Japanese slang term "chiccha" which means narrow minded. The "Hunky dory day" part refers to the fakeness of how online influencers present their lives as if everything is perfect and amazing, like everything is just "hunky-dory", but it also sounds super close to the Japanese phrase "honki tori". "Honki" meaning serious, sincere, earnest, and "tori" meaning image capturing, like filming or photographing. No doubt about it, she is one clever pigeon.
Miku really needs to be recognised for the poet she is. Japanese poetry has always been dense and allusive and she continues that legacy, but her use of English goes way beyond simply providing a hook for foreign audiences (and with French titles to songs upcoming it wouldn't surprise me if she manages it with that language as well). Her lyrics (and those by Saiki) should be given to all aspiring lyricists to give them something to aim for. Like every other member of this band she brought together, she is a genius.
@@Grum-monkey 100% agree, this band is great because all the members are great. But sadly there are a lot of fans that don't understand "hunky dory" is in the song because Miku is both extremely clever and a great lyricist, and not because she wanted to point out that Saiki is a fan of David Bowie.
One neat detail: At the beginning of the song, one guitar is doing a pick scrape up, and the other guitar is doing a pick scrape down. They love messing around with adding little touches like that. They work so hard to cram as much as they can into each song, but still find a way to keep it grounded and sounding good.

The jaded tone when Miku sings "Everybody! Look!" is everything. They took a swing at half the internet.
I get a definite undertone of, "Social media used to be fun and occasional, now as a professional musician (and especially for Miku) it's a daily chore." Iirc this came out shortly after several US pop superstars complained about their labels ordering them to TikTok and Instagram daily. (Though that might just have been some reverse psychology marketing scheme by management)
Who else….Who else but Band Maid can use “hunky-dory day” in a song along with some Saiki-Rap, Epic cliff-side Base solo followed by an equally epic cliff-side guitar solo intermixed with jamming drums and killer lyrics? NO ONE but the greatest band this earth has ever seen. Just Band Maid doing Band Maid things! Great reaction….I LOVE BAND MAID❤❤

This is the video/song that got me hooked on Band-Maid. When I listened to it, I thought, "wow, this is different. This is good. No, this is amazing!" Then I checked out other songs and I haven't disliked one yet.
I saw them play it live in 2022 in Chicago. They had the floor literally bouncing with this song. No joke. Wood floor felt like a trampoline. Funny thing is going into the night if you had given me the set list this probably would have been my second least anticipated song. Was a top 5 song of the night. That’s a testament to how amazing they are.
Seeing as you asked, "Influencer" was shot at the Ishikiri Sanmyaku stone quarry which was designated a site of outstanding natural beauty the moment BAND-MAID set foot there...probably.😏

As lovely and sweet that they are, I kind of agree with you that if you saw them in an alleyway, you might become a little afraid. Saiki kind of looks like Catwoman, MISA looks like the Ninja assassin she is. If Kanami points that PRS at you like a weapon you might crap your pants. Akane, being the Gorilla is scary enough and then sweet little Miku reminds me of Harley Quinn.
Without question the most bad ass song ever written with the words "hunky dory day" in it. Long live the maids!!!

It continues to be Hunky Dory Days for USA fans, that's for sure! The Maids entire 2022 & 2023 US tour was a fantastic success! So many great live fancams to watch! And they'll be coming back soon, I hope! ;-) Their playing and antics were as fresh and fun to experience from first show to last. BRAVO Band-Maid!!!!! Ords I saw these ladies live at the TLA in Philadelphia 22’ and they were amazing! One of my all time favorite concerts. If you ever get a chance I highly recommend you see them live. 🍺😁🤘🏻
This is killer live. Their most recent shows have ended with this song with an extended Misa/Kanami solo section. Eyewitness accounts say it's pretty epic. Hopefully we'll get an official live version of this duel at some point.

Okay so I haven't read through the comments, but just in case someone hasn't addressed it,.
"Honkey Dory Day", refers to David Bowie's work Honkey Dory, as well as Saiki's reference to, "Let's Dance." Also a well known Bowie song, it was Band-Maid paying homage not only to David Bowie but his producer Tony Visconti
Who in turn wrote / produced and invited Band-Maid to perform, "The Dragon Cries." As a result Saiki became a big fan of Bowie's.
As well as double meaning of "Chi - Cha / Chi - Cha" playing off Sounding like "Chit - Chat / Chit - Chat"
But leave off here and let someone else explain that play on words and sounds. 🤘

The gorgeousness contained in the cinematography is mind blowing and the quarry they filmed this in isn't to bad either.
Careful on saying how perfect you think Saiki is (even though you are correct) or you may incur the wrath of Mincho but then again Mincho would likely set the barefoot assassin onto you - mind you that's not a bad way to leave this mortal plane. What a fcken band Po 👍🍻
