Hey I've been watching your videos and saw that you use earthworm castings. I'm wondering if you can use seachem flourite black with the earthworm castings? Or would you suggest just using the flourite? Thanks. Great vids👍
This is the first video I've watched from this channel and just WOW. I have a betta and want to have a carpet in my 5g. I clearly have alot of work to do haha. I really appreciated how much you explained things, it was easy and to the point. I could only dream of having a carpet (and tank) this incredible!
You have been doing this for a while so I think you will sometimes repeat tips from earlier videos but at the same time I think it is important because not everyone has been around to watch them all. Keep up the great work that you do.
I wouldn't do seed as they can be not to species. Asian sellers are really bad for this. Most carpets need moderate to strong light and at least a moderate amount of co2. If you have an established tank with lots of fish (co2 source) starting a carpet from a bunch or culture should be easy.
Got a question for you. What happens if you do the dry start method and get a good carpet and then fill up the tank and let it run without CO2 injection? Would the carpet die off?
that looks fantastic! the water is also super clear! looks amazing! my water is clear but camera never looks as good as this! that plant life is amazing. I do need to look at other lights
What plant did you use for the tree, would that be Anubias Nana? I wanted to do the same with my driftwood and couldn't figure out if I should use moss or Monte carle for my driftwood because I just wanted to use monte Carlo for carpet.
Great video again Mike! I love your videos! You are awesome! Your tank looks beautiful! I wish mine looked as good! Keep up the good work and a HUGE thumbs up as always!
i want to set up a 6.2 gallon planted tank. is there any site i can go to to check out freshwater plants to see what will fit my tank best; also what the plants need in terms of high or low light intensity?
I just started a tank with only pea gravel as substrate...I pulled apart the dwarf hairgrass and pushed the stems into the pea gravel...I plan to add root tabs in a day or two.... what success can I expect since i'm not putting soil nor am I using CO2....Fred
I have had some good luck buying some LEDs from home depot, the only downside is that the lights don't go longer than 4ft. They are pretty easy to DIY to get them to stay on your aquarium correctly.
Very nice. Did a 30 gallon 3 ft long by 1 ft wide by 16-18 inches height, tiered with upper 2 tier dirted substrate capped with black gravel and black sand, dry start method with 2 bags of mystery carpeting seeds. One bag was super small seeds and other was much larger seeds. Larger seeds turned out to look exactly like your glosso carpet. Not sure what the smaller seeds are, (maybe HC/dwarf baby tears?), but looks almost exactly like glosso just MUCH smaller not even quarter inch tall vs the half to 3 quarter inch glosso.
Voss Li 1. Yes 2. It isn’t needed for all plants but will become much more necessary when going into more difficult to grow plants. It will make anything grow much faster.
Your glosso carpet is looking really good! I just set up a tank with the same plant and it isn’t doing very well. It grew super tall and after I trimmed it, it al melted back and looks pretty unhealthy. I’m using co2 and a Twinstar 600E. Any ideas on what might be wrong or any tips you have? Are you dosing any fertilizer? Thanks in advance
hey aquapro, i am reallly interested in aquascape aquarium but how do i clean the tank when its dirty? do i just throw out the aquascape and start over? please let me know. thanks the tank looks great
Do you think it would be feasible to use a large tote to start immersed growth for a carpet and when its thick enough maybe cut it to the shape you would want in your tank(like sod for a lawn)? Planning a 265 gallon don"t want the whole bottom carpeted . could go ahead and start the growth/carpet so when its time to set up the tank it already has a good start.
Completely agree with the substrate, not just nutrient rich but also fine enough to support small rooted carpet plants and allow them to put out runners :D
I have an established aquarium hence could not empty it. Hence i have gronw the carpet seeds in a glass bowl. Please advise how do i transfer it back to the aquarium.
Hey man, I know it's an old video. But I've been trying the emmersed growing of some seeds I got off Ebay.. and they grow super quickly, but as soon as I added water they were dying/dead the next day.. any ideas? Probably not aquatic seeds?
@@syednaveedzafar1551 I think I figured out what went wrong. When I grew the seeds, they were used to having a lot of CO2, when they were submerged they were starved and died.
What’s your experience with growing Monte Carlo plants particularly without pressurised CO2? Is it still achievable in a tank with ADA Amazonia soil and sufficient lighting without any CO2? I’m currently 4 weeks into growing it using the dry start method and would prefer not dosing CO2 if I can avoid it.
So is there anyway to keep the grass in a certain area and not completely carpet? I have certain areas I want grass and some I don't, is it even possible? X
Great video, I have a question if anyone can help I'm getting the aqueon 15 column tank and I want to plant hair grass, will the light provided with the tank be sufficient enough?
Hey, Nice video. Indeed great information. Thanks. Your anubias melted not because of any disease instead coz of high light. Dwarf grass and the other carpeting plants needs more intensive light comparatively which you are already providing in the set up. Hence due to high light anubias melted. Hope this helps.
This was great. One thing about the Anubias rot. You may have a fungal issue. I regularly score my Anubias with scissors to get the rhizome to branch and throw out shoots and it’s never rotted when I do that.
First, thanks for the video. I see that you recommend a nutrient substrate as the bottom of the aquarium. But I would like to ask if it is possible to have a carpet with only black beach sand (basalt)?
Did you take a video of you setting up and planting this tank if so could you send it my way totally in love with this setup what a wonderful job you did
I'm new to this but can you basically lay maybe moss on top of a rock and cover the aquarium off with foil. So when it has enough light the moss will grow allover the rock, or is it not that simple
Belg4Life moss doesnt need much light. If you want moss to grow on a rock just get a small amount and super glue it to the rock. In a couple weeks the whole rock will be covered with moss.
I set up a 10 gal with about an inch to 1.5 inches of earthworm castings capped with a couple inches of sand. That was 12 weeks ago at least and I still have problems with my water being stained. When I do water changes the water looks like dark urine. I figured over time the water would clear up but it hasn't. Any suggestions?
Try getting a better quality activated carbon and put it in a mesh bag and place it in your filter. There are also other products that the african cichlid guys use to get crystal clear water, such as Chemipure or seachem purigen
I've emptied my tank from (2 f&m betta fish, a separator to plant the gravel, some big plants), and I kept the gravel and the substrate beneath the gravel. My gravel is brown dark. I've noticed that I had some kind of algae between the gravel ( a sticky one and some brown colorish on the plants) I didn't see that before emptying the tank. I've dropped the carpet seeds, covered with gravel, cover the tank with plastic wrap, and I put a light to keep it work and moist. My question is: will the seeds grow with this algae?
I have 1200lumen light low tech setup in a 20gallon with hc and monte carlo. Without co2. I dose potassium + micro nutrient in the water columns. I don't add nitrogen or phosphate, hoping that my fish will produce those. I have my fingers crossed hoping it will work out.
Great to see that you're having lots of success again mike it seemed like you lost interest for a bit and weren't having as much luck as you have had previously but you're back and everything looks sick😎
Mike the glosso is looking great I'm thinking about doing something similar in a smaller tank also how is that aquatek paintball co2 valve working for u ?
Wow.. that 33 long looks REALLY nice now!! a few weeks ago I saw this tank and there was some algae issues and I really thought this tank would turn into a algae party, specially when u mention to only run ur light for like 4-5hrs or so? When i heard that I was sure u were gonna kill off ur plants ^^ How long did u decide to run the lights for? Really nice job man!

How often do you water the plants
They are cactus, they don't need watering 😂

blunt and straight to the point my frieNDs
Plastic ones don't.
when the word 'plastic' is not infront of the word 'plant' the assumption is made that it is real

That hair grass is a perfectionist's nightmare
How do you start a carpet in an established tank? From seed? I have found some random conflicting information.
I dont know, I have the same question
I wouldn't do seed as they can be not to species. Asian sellers are really bad for this. Most carpets need moderate to strong light and at least a moderate amount of co2. If you have an established tank with lots of fish (co2 source) starting a carpet from a bunch or culture should be easy.
Good job! It’s somewhat tricky to start a planted tank with just carpeting plants due to the threat of algae. Impressive!
Looks great. Just started a nano tank with fluval stratum substrate and dwarf hair grass this was perfectly timed to help me succeed👍
With such dense growth your substrate won't last long
I’m starting my first carpet ever in a little 5g betta tank. This was super helpful
Me too!! So excited.
Me too! Lemme know how yalls go bc im scared, i got the tank ready and everything but i havent started yet 😬
You should just go for it. We all have to begin somewhere, and if you mess up then you can learn from your mistakes :)
Great job. A wonderful example of a proper aquarium carpet.

Tooth brush ;)
some ppl do water change and they scrub the walls only.

That is a World-Clas carpet Mike! Very nice.

Do plants need a specific type of light? Or can it be any regular flourescent lamp or bulb that you can buy in a hardware store??
same question
Leds lights at a miniumum of 6500k for low to medium light level plants look up the lights on Google there's alot of info about what the k means
Hi.. Do i need soil? Or can i use onky gravel to plant the carpet seed?
You can use either. Usually if you pick a good soil and then cap it, it'll grow a little better, but roots will spread through gravel fine.

Great aquariums when growing carpet plants from seeds do you use the white and blue leds together ?
What do you dose this tank with? Your monte carlo looks really good. I wish my tank is like this 😩
Do you have to worry about gas pockets with such a carpet, though? I'm wondering...
How do you do gravel vacuum cleaning for this? Or the plants are helping you to keep it clean?
you hover it over the top to get any debree out
wvwvwvwv I see 😁
what fish are in the second tank you showed, they look really nice also are they easy to take care of
