Fun fact: if Cpl. Shephard was returned to Earth during the events of either HL:A or HL2, he would've been the last U.S. marine either alive or still recognized as a _U.S. marine._
How demoralizing do you think that would be for the survivors of the 7 hour war? Seeing Shepherd, and knowing he is the last act of defiance for humanity, a soldier that was meant to protect their nation.

I feel like people too easily look down on Blue Shift. The reason it's a much slower and uneventful game compared to the other is because you aren't some silent powerful main character, in either high tech military gear or a HEV suit, you're a security guard. You were hired to protect the people, and that's exactly what Calhoun does with his group of survivors. Each game has a very different tone, and all of them are good.
It was never supposed to be a standalone game, it was supposed to be an added bonus for the Dreamcast port of HL1 that never released. It’s not bad by any means, it’s just not a full game.
Blue shift also takes place early in the "Half life" time line of the Black Mesa incident When things were still pretty calm. At the end of Blue shift you see the military dragging freeman off which takes place near the mid point of Half life. Opposing force by comparison starts right when the Alien Counter attack starts toward end of Half life. Very early on You see Gordon jump in the Portal and then you see how bad shit gets for those still in Black Mesa. Race X only started to show up after Gordan had left hence why none are seen in HL.

Adrian Shepard is released from stasis by the G-Man, under the simple words, "Your time has come again, Corporal Shepard. Hope that you aren't reaped, by the Combine harvester clearing the fields." After making sure he still has his PCV on, which he does, he looks around in the environment he finds himself in. Specifically, the war-torn remnants of a devastated city, a firefight around him actively breaking out, explosions and gunfire abound. He isn't sure what might be causing it at first, until he sees a marine being shot down by a Shock Trooper, accompanied by other aliens that he doesn't quite recognize. After searching for another target, these hostiles notice Shepard nearby and start to close in on him. Shepard sees that the soldier dropped his weapon, of which he has none to defend himself with. He swiftly grabs the assault rifle and guns down the Shock Trooper as the other forces try to enclose him to block escape. Seeing this, he darts around a small tripedial alien that narrowly misses him with its flechette-like projectiles, and proceedingly rushes to cover as a nearby, much larger alien charges an underbarrel cannon, and fires it upon a squad of troops and the APC they had exited from, obliterating all of them instantly in a burst of blue light. In a rush to escape the carnage surrounding him, he finds himself meeting a few straggler soldiers who have abandoned their posts in favor of their lives, seeing the futility in fighting the creatures head-on. They band together and evacuate the city from the impending alien forces, and, as the aliens have seemingly taken notice of their resistance, they keep having to evade squads that are trying to hunt them down. At some point, Adrian fills-in on some details that might help them out of this mess, about Black Mesa. Adrian explains to the others that anybody from that facility might just have a chance of being able to stop the alien forces sooner or later, and hopefully sooner if they're lucky. They head off to find one of the groups Shepard heard of having escaped back when he was attacking the facility, led by someone known by the name of Barney Calhoun. EDIT after 2 years: Thought I'd touch-up this old story a bit. I always wondered why Valve had never made a sequel to HL:OF that at-least partially placed him in the 7-Hour War, and I decided to make a point on how they might do so. EDIT again: Rewrote it once more, to make it sound less disjointed.
@Ramsay Bolton I actually thought of the possibility that Race X are Combine client races. The way I envision it, they could be ruthlessly imperialistic already, so they made a deal with the Combine to work for them willingly in exchange for not having to become synths. As far as we know, what you said is correct, but I think it'd be pretty cool if they were actually Combine surrogates that were just to gauge Earth's strength. Plus, that would explain why the Combine were able to conquer Earth in seven hours - they assumed that ALL Earth soldiers were Freeman or Shepherd level, so they brought in massive overkill.
@@tripleb5197 ya i like the Idea that Race X is related to the Combine some how. Only problem is the alien harvester that Shepherd kills at the end is nothing that the combine would want. If Shephard ever makes it back to Earth, I can’t even imagine the survivors guilt he would feel. Knowing that he swore to protect his country and not only was he not there when the aliens invaded, but his nation fell in 7 hours leading to 20 years of dictatorship upon the entire planet, enslaving and sterilizing everyone. Hopefully if Shephard returns, he can find peace in an act of defiance against the Combine and G-Man.
It would be cool to have a new game with Shephard. Show him alone surviving in some alien world full of scars and with a body of young Arnold looking for some way to get back to earth. The cover of the game shows him smoking a cigar on top of a machine-gunned Gargantua near some human facility/base with a contrast of a bizarre alien sky in the background. That would really lift things up!!.
@Rustel That's one of the reasons why the vast majority of games nowadays suck, because this generation of people thinks everything is "silly tbh", which is why it's very likely that there won't be another game like hlf.
Imagine the Overwatch Voice all of a sudden glitch out and it changes to: "System now under military command" And then Adrian Sheperd appears with a band of surviving US Marines, and together with Freeman they fuck shit up

Come in, Cooper. Do you copy? Forget about Freeman. We're abandoning the base. If you have any last bomb targets, mark them on the Tactical Map. Otherwise, get the Hell out of there!. Repeat: We are pulling out and commencing airstrikes. Give us targets or get below!

i love this soundtrack
Half-Life: Opposing Force, the Half-Life Three we always wanted.
👍

Kek. This song is "busting" notes alright.
Ты русский/you are russian?
Legendary Ever. ! Last USA Marine combined Occopiued World 20 Years.
love you 4 uploading this
I got a fealing that operation: black mesa's friendly marines are gonna behave like the combine from entropy zero, because its the same npc as it was hostile but given terrific squad mechanics. On the not of that, arrest scientists?
I know nothing of the game, it just pop on my youtube pages, and then i actually listen this song every time when i go to run, it help me to keep my cadence, no joke, i got better and better, but every time i go to run, this song is needed lol
Yaknow, seeing Shepard in this pictures reminds me of DooM
Shepard might return in half life 3 confirmed
Might and Confirmed are two words that do not go together.
i know. it's a paradox. just like half life 3
Fedolas to fucking soon
Half Life more than 2 and less than 4.
@Fedolas he probably will, considering that the G-man lost control over Gordon because of the Vortigaunts.
Origin Of SN Core Warhead 2nd Music.
Bus😫
Amboutaforgetaboutfreeman 😫
We're still on the same team, right? RIGHT?!
It's 1:46 seconds but it feels like 5 minutes
One of the best half life title
The part that baffles me, is that Adrian Shephard is 22 years old during the events at black mesa, he's a certified badass.
"My Extraction Po-" oops wrong game.
Subject: A. Shepard
Status: Unknown
If Shephard ever makes it back to Earth, I can’t even imagine the survivors guilt he would feel. Knowing that he swore to protect his country and not only was he not there when the aliens invaded, but his nation fell in 7 hours leading to 20 years of dictatorship upon the entire planet, enslaving and sterilizing everyone. Hopefully if Shephard returns, he can find peace in an act of defiance against the Combine and G-Man.
that moment when virgin adrian turns into chad shephard
HOLY SHIT GOOSE 3 DOWN - engineer marine
Beware the gas masked guy aka Shepard
COPORAL SHEPARD HUH?, LOOKS MORE LIKE COPORAL DAWG MEAT TO ME
Oh memories.....
If this wasn't about Half Life, the snare in this would make me think a Cyber style of Civil War.
The Community: Forget About Freeman!
Valve: Nope, no HL:OP 2
if this doesn't play during war i'm not going.
Ah opposing force! My favorite song!
I can jog or run for all day with this music
Chad theme
It would be cool to have a new game with Shephard.
Show him alone surviving in some alien world full of scars and with a body of young Arnold looking for some way to get back to earth.
The cover of the game shows him smoking a cigar on top of a machine-gunned Gargantua near some human facility/base with a contrast of a bizarre alien sky in the background.
That would really lift things up!!.
@Rustel That's one of the reasons why the vast majority of games nowadays suck, because this generation of people thinks everything is "silly tbh", which is why it's very likely that there won't be another game like hlf.
I love silly things ngl. As long as the gameplay is good I'd probably still play it
According to raising the bar (in some way), anything that comes after Half life 1 should not be silly
Finally i found it
Imagine the Overwatch Voice all of a sudden glitch out and it changes to: "System now under military command"
And then Adrian Sheperd appears with a band of surviving US Marines, and together with Freeman they fuck shit up
Here's hoping
Eh
