    I've loved watching Yuri drum since I first watched the 10th anniversary live from 2019. For the same reason why I love watching Tomo-Zo play guitar.
    She practically has two modes. It's either heads-down, laser-focused precision, but give her any moment to "rest" and she'll go straight up to smile and wave or whatever she might feel like.
    Having that electronic..drum..pad...thing.. that they have had in live shows since Kachi-Kachi-Yama and having her switch to that half-way through the song and then do that for 2-3 songs afterwards has been awesome. Some people would say that because they get to see Hana drumming again, which is neat and all, but for me, it's to see Yuri upfront bouncing around. It's just the perfect fit for the band.

    I empathize with you.
    They're on the Ace tour and close out the last section with the following sequence. They are: ALALA - NANMAIDA - I wish I - Let It Beat.
    Nonstop, energetic, high beat, right?
    Recently, fans from other countries have been lining up on the front line (Japanese fans aren't that tall, so it looks like there's a wall in front of them lol). in Nagoya, Osaka and Sendai.
    If possible, please go to Japan and stretch the wall. lol

    Thanks Prymal - always so much joy with GS. Then the lyrics are pretty existential when you go back for a second watch.
    The growth of Angie and Yuri seems to be the most consistently noted aspect.
    I personally am enjoying the more prevalent piano jazzyness from Oreo. Her favourite recent song to play is apparently Rabbit Hole which is also more in that vein so maybe you’d like to check it out sometime?!.::

      Great tip. I LOVE what Oreo brings to the party. Every little Jazzy flourish just elevates the whole song, every time.

    I term of energy, Gacharic Spin is another level. So joyful to watch them. The song so catchy as well. Funky and jazzy at the same time

    Thanks for a great reaction! A couple of things - TronDD is a good guy. Met him in Boston at the Band-Maid concert. We actually went out for dinner the night before with a few others including musician and reactor Wave Potter. Secondly Yuri has really come to the forefront in the past 2 albums. Her confidence has really shone through. Angie taking over the vocal lead since she joined the band has really allowed GS to become very versatile and create these new exciting sounds. This band is just phenomenal! 😃

    Congratulations on pulling out so much from that one play through. Personally I still find this track, and the whole EP, quite a difficult listen but I'm slowly finding my way through it. I get the cartoon reference - a lot of '70s era cartoons had very jazzy soundtracks/themes and this track is very much jazz-based. I'm tempted to say jazz fusion, but I can't work out what the fusion element is. I don't think you can call it rock or pop. It's nice having challenging music that needs time to fully appreciate it.

    • @PrymalChaos
      @PrymalChaos  3 месяца назад +2

      I think the fusion element is a big bowl of Froot Loops and some Hana-Barbera!

    i wondered about the street filming too. I guess they had sync playback using earplugs and a transmitted track? Maybe we could push the food wagon for the army? I noticed any of the GP in sharp focus had their eyes blocked out. Still doesn't explain why they ignore the body on the ground though. I recall filming a scene in public across a crowded mall when I saw the director in the background telling anyone who might look at the camera to look away.... So I called cut when I thought we had enough. Another great review PC! Thanks.

    Nice anecdote! It seems like every band shoots an MV at Shibuya Crossing sooner or later, so many probably guessed what was going on, but you can see people pausing (presumably to check if Angie is okay) in a couple of shots.
    Their previous release, W, was easily by favourite Gacharic Spin album and they may even have topped it with the Ace EP. They're pretty much a prog band in disguise at this point and I love it.

    • @PrymalChaos
      @PrymalChaos  3 месяца назад +1

      Yeah they certainly have prog elements. Oreo seems to really add a lot of that jazzy esoteric element that elevates it too.

    The Shibuya Scramble Crossing they filmed on is one of the busiest intersections in the world as it's right next to one of the busiest train stations in the world (Shibuya station). It has also been featured in a lot of different media over the years from movies to series, games and books. It makes it pretty recognizable even though I have never been there and I would probably go as far to call it iconic. I have said this under their MV, but I wouldn't dream of lying on the ground in between the crowds on that intersection with the amount of people passing through there every hour. I get somewhat nervous just watching it even though I have watched this video now multiple times and I know what is going to happen.

    • @PrymalChaos
      @PrymalChaos  3 месяца назад +3

      Yeah I thought it would be Shibuya, but I didn’t want to comment because I don’t know if every crossing in Tokyo looks like that. 😝

      That makes a lot of sense 😀. I probably wouldn't have taken the chance if I was in your shoes either. I also wanted to thank you for an other reaction to Gacharic Spin. I really hope they can break through a bit more in the West and reactions like yours certainly help to give new people exposure to their music. So thank you!

      They indeed walked out there in live traffic - the average green phase lasts 40-50 seconds, google tells me. Angie talked about her feelings storming the empty space with the flag and lying around between all those feets... (She talks a lot 😄). GS has released some Making-Of-Shorts.

  • @EdwardRLyons

    Angie has definitely improved vocally as she has matured. She was, what, 18 or so when they did Mindset? And new to musical performance, too, much less as a singer. Her progression has been very marked, and, good as she was at the outset, she is now a consummate lead vocalist, with a very distinctive voice. When she and Yuri joined the band it became what for me is the definitive, complete version of Gacharic Spin, in comparison with its earlier iterations. Many bands go through a "three album rule", where their earliest work is their best. If anything, GS is now far, far better than they have ever been, and continue to be incredibly innovative and experimental in their sound.

    Great review, I agree with a lot of your points
    I love Yuri's frenetic cross-stick grooves on this
    One little thing I notice also is that while Tomo-zo's guitar solo is pretty crazy and off doing it's own thing, she does briefly quote the chromatic descending passage Oreo sings in the pre-chorus towards the end of her solo, a nice touch to lead us back into the chorus with a familiar melody

      Yeah that’s awesome. Nothing is random with Gacharic Spin. That’s the kind of detail I usually pick up on subsequent listens, and then I berate myself for being dumb enough to miss it during the reaction. 😝

  • @amiwolf8117

    Agree, that Yuri standing up and sitting down doesn't make a ton of difference :D
    I'd call their latest arrangments not difficult or complex (they are that too), but rather use "busy" as a description :)
    Cheers !!!

    A Gachapin army? Where can I sign up? 🫡😂
    Yes, for many this is waaay too much in just a few minutes, but over the last few years I've found so much fun in listening to individual details in instrumentals, and with GS it just doesn't get boring. The masters of masters of controlled groovy chaos. 🔥🤘🏻
