Excellent flight time of 14 minutes .
What drone is Abby using?
P
man that thing looks just like the original...I can't believe how good it looks. thanks for the review, have been following Mike's adventures with the actual plane and I'm stoked to see a scale version enter the RC market. I love all your reviews but this one is one of my favorites.
Dous this telemetrie work with the old DX 8g2?
Thanks for shout out, great review and video. Thanks for sharing our love of Draco with others 🤠🤠🤠 Mike Patey
So awesome cant wait awesome that you found them
Yessss! Hey maybe when scrappy is done horizon can get that going too.... Drool,🤤😁😁 one can wish
Awesome to see you on this channel Mike! Now all we need is a nice set of Pontoons . Maybe some light weight STOL floats! Lol
Congrats Mike. 🇨🇱👍
Cool to see you comment Mike! I'm loving following the Scrappy build!
WOW. That air to air footage. DOUBLE WOW! Awesome work Nate and Abby!!!
I watched the Mike Patey video when they released it. It was neat how emotional he was about it.
Adds to the value for me. This is a special model imo and worth having for every reason.
Rc has come so far from the late 50s and 60s till now a real exciting time.
Too bad it’s being ruined by the FAA now
I learned RC in the 90s with nitro engine kit planes... Everything is so much more accessible now.
Kudos to Abby on her chase video, that was the best yet. You really have your drone dialed in.
I’ve followed Mr Patey for years (aviation family) and the moment I heard this model was available I bounced off the walls and immediately ordered one! I’m eagerly awaiting its arrival just for the thrill of looking at it let alone the joy of getting it in the air! Here’s to many happy flights! Cheers y’all!
I really want one but i know im not going to want to fly(and risk crashing it) im just going to want to put it together and look at it haha
I'm extremely pleased that you got that DJI FPV drone so that you could add that totally awesome chase drone video to your airplane video!!! 🤗💖🤗
You weren't kidding when you said that it was a STOL aircraft -- it achieved V2 surprising rapidly! 😲
I agree! The chase work is really an awesome next level! I know it takes time to produce and N&A are so much taking care of business. I share this channel - without hesitation - to everyone that shows interest.
I just got mine 9/27/21. As for the tail wheel springs. I installed them on the tail first. Then on the tail wheel assembly before installing the screws. No bent springs and didn’t have to remove anything else. Love your videos. Keep having fun….
I remember when I was a kid ( back before electricity lol) my Dad would take us to the Sylvania parking lot on a Sunday afternoon to watch the RC planes fly these were gasoline powered and they were works of art but took a ton of maintenance and were fairly difficult to fly It’s amazing how advanced the technology of these battery powered planes This one is really cool and it’s awesome that it seems to have the same characteristics as the real thing
Absolutely *the* plane to get. This one is responsible for me focusing on getting my flying confidence up. I love that rig both model and full size. 😍
Horizon Hobby pulled a fast one on the release of Draco which was to be on Friday 23rd.
Thanks Abby, the Queen of chase Cam and Nate for working to get this one out.
Mine should be with me on the 5th of may in the 🇬🇧 I’m proper excited to receive it 🤙🏻 great flying and video guys 🛬🎬
Beautiful plane.... realistic flight but kind of pricey!!! Thanks for the video!! I do remember the Drako before the guy crash and burn it!
Didnt burn but you should see his new plane hes working on plus draco II Mike Patey
@@my89scottsdale67 Yup!! he's building a rally offroad plane... been watching the work... Kind-of envy the guy.. because he can... but I remember the video after drako crashed.. the fire dpt was throwing tons of water... I thought there was fire...but that at least for me was a sad day!! it was a beautiful plane...
for the rear springs, i put the springs on the tail wheel, then on the servo horn before attaching it to the plane. was super simple and zero issues!
I assembled my Draco yesterday and found the tail wheel to be quite easy!
The trick to the tail wheel is to install the springs first. 1. Put springs on airframe, 2. Put springs on tail wheel, 3. Install mount screw and nut, then strut screw and voila!
Now the slats on the other hand... Those were a PITA for me lol
I cant stop watching videos of this plane, its so Beautiful, the shape, details, The oversized wheels and shocks. Its hard to believe an RC company or any company would put in such effort and money into offering these for sale when theres no profits to be had, i dont think. They just went way out of their way to honor the Tug guy and his very cool airplane. I wonder how many will crash them upon a normal average take-off, lol :) I started saving for a motorcycle and when I got enough I might buy a bush plane instead. VERY COOL PLANE
Sad thing is if lots of people get this for a first plane there is going to be plenty of reenactments of the scale Draco crash
Start with radian!!
LOL,Take it out to the flying field when there are 40 + knot winds and a huge crosswind component and try and make it hang off the prop on take off.
Not close to worth the price.P.T. Barnum was right.
@@blackhd92 What other plane with that detail can ya get for $600?
I've been following Mike Patey for a long time and his attention to detail and the level of engineering that he has achieved on Draco and now his new build Scrappy is amazing. I love watching his videos. It truly satisfies my OCD. I expected the Draco RC to as good as it obviously is. I highly recommend his channel Mike Patey and his other channel Best Tugs. It is a shame that he actually crashed the real Draco not long ago. As Always, May God Bless you and yours!
I was so bizzy watching the plane didn't noticed big foot 2 i seen him running below 🤣🤣✌
Dang it now i have to watch the whole video again
Agree AMA Membership is a must! Many clubs & flying fields require it as well. Have to say Draco is my all time fav ARTF!
just built mine. I put the z bends on the tail wheel then attached them to the fuselage servo horn (not attached) then pulled the servo horn and bolted in place. Took a whole 5 seconds to install the springs with no issues! all about leverage.
Glad to see you got Draco and have it flying! I'm still waiting for mine to land on my porch. Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks for the review! Huge Thanks for the Chase Views! Awsome! I really, really enjoy those views! Sorry it might sound weird but honest.
I started with planes years ago then got hooked on FPV quads. But after 5 years and thousands of dollars later it's very relaxing to just cruise around with a plane again, minimal stick movements. I wouldn't pay $600 + $135 a battery for this but it's a beautiful plane.
Certainly have come along ways since I joined, I was looking for the best cheap toy grade multi rotor syma 5, xjx in your backyard and now Abby has her fpv quad, great job 👍🤩BB
Great video, pre ordering one now.
What a great plane I took a break from YT for a while for personal reasons You guy's were the first I wanted to watch coming back You guys lift my spirits Thanks
I just couldn’t stop saying wow.
I wonder if I could pull my gliders up with one of these?
I think it was Abby doing the chase video as well.
If it was well done Abby.
👍 from me as usual.
Bro I am so lucky. I called a hobby shop about 1.5 hours away... they said they have some and are releasing them Friday, most are pre-orders. I asked how many they would have left over. He said 1 will be in the store. I paid for it on the phone and will pick it up Friday!!
Awesome plane...best ive ever seen. The real draco was absolutely breathtaking
Its a beautiful plane, but flies like a fcking brick.
Great video of a Great plane!!! The Draco was an amazing plane, if anyone doesn’t know about the Draco, they should research it and the videos of its history! Great “chase” work on that drone Abb! Thank y’all for your work for all of us out here.
Easy tail wheel springs z-bend insertion in control arms. Keep the $5.00 reward! I tried doing it by the instructions and realized it would only lead to bends in the spring while trying to get the other z-bend end of the control rod in the armhole. So I found the easiest way to attach the spring to the two control arms for the tailwheel assembly was to unscrew either the front arm or the rear arm and insert the z-bends on both arms then screw the arm you unscrewed back on its mount. Your springs would then have been nice and straight like mine is without the bends you now have in both of your springs.
Such a cool model! Really impressed how much work went into this. And seeing how easy the wings come off, may even consider getting one eventually.
Nate to attach the springs use a spring hook.
Apparently we continue to learn something every day! I had no idea that even existed. Google, here I come! 👍😁😎⚓
Oh wow. So glad you guys got it. Has to be best plane this year. I'm hoping to get enough money saved to get one. I've loved this plane all the way up till the original crashed
Just took that rock off my head and wowwww! What an air craft! Bravo vid guys! 👏
Wow, I am totally blown away seeing it actually flown. I mean, sure, the promo videos are nice, but they are always the "best" shots of their flights. Your videos always have everything, the good, the bad, and even the ugly. And that really shows the measure of the RC device you are testing. I am glad they went large with DRACO since it gives you all the detail of the real plane. Mike Patey is a really awesome aviator who builds his own planes and it is amazing how far he went when he transformed his Wilga 2000 into DRACO.
Allways good to see you guys out there im in the uk south east london watch you guys all the time 👍✈️👍
....good job...i always apply heavy duty clear tape to all my edges just in case of a wing scrape or if it noses over and the plane gently flips over and the rudder hits the ground its also protected
To me, this DRACO looks like a beefy and improved version of the Wilga, a Polish WWII spotting & bush plane, because of the unusual spring loaded landing gear and overall shape of the plane. Yours was a great demonstration. Thanks.
A Wikipedia search revealed that the DRACO is indeed, a modified and more beefy turboprop version of the Wilga PZL-104.
I bought the Wilga 2000 about 10 years ago from Hobby King. A search revealed that it has been discontinued, but I still hope to fly mine with the motivation of your video. Lucky I also bought a kit version, as a backup for parts.
Check out Mike Patey on youtube. It shows some of the Draco build but the Scrappy build is insane! Unbelievable Engineer / Fab guy. Dont tell The RCSaylors but, Mike Patey is my favorite channel. Can't wait for new episodes.
Hi, andy in UK. Ordered my draco in June and got it this week...4 months later. In uk it cost nearly 700 dollars pnp when I ordered it, and is now 800 dollars, so I guess I got it cheap. Firstly I must say I like it a lot, it is indeed unique in terms of quality...but I also got durafly efx extra 1100mm racer this week in hobbyking sale for 100 dollars. Maidened them both yesterday and enjoyed them equally. Since I paid for the draco 4 months before I got it, I have got over the shock of paying for it, but when I look at it I have a lot of planes like the arrows marlin which are just as much fun for far less. I know, no one forces you to get one, but the hype is phenomenal. Also the price of spare parts is ludicrous. For instance one spare wing half is 400 dollars in uk, and the carbon wing spar is over 80 dollars. Personally I find that no more than profiteering. Fair enough charging a lot for the plane, but why make spare parts unaffordable to most of your customers.
You ALWAYS have the best videos. Flying is picture perfect as always and camera work great as usual!
Unfortunately, the RCSaylors are not honest about this review... as usual. Most reviews are sponsored, so they wont really say anything negative.
The Draco looks really nice, but thats about it. It flies very bad, because its WAY to heavy for the size, cause of all the little details they put in to make it look scale. Its like taking your Fun Cub XL and taping a fcking brick under the fuselage, really not that fun to fly. And on top of that, lets not forget its still a foam plane (I know, looking at the price tag you might forget that for a second), which means that all the nice little details either break off or look pretty bad after a few flights. The only good thing is, it looks nice in the beginning, so you get some people staring at your model at the flying field.... thats what you get for 600$. Congrats.
I played around on RealFlight with the models and after some adjustments, it is super fun. All the stopping power is amazing.
That would be really fun on the simulator! 👍😁😎⚓
@@TheRcSaylors no matter how much practice you get on the simulator, the first time you try something new in real life it gets your heart going. It must be the risk.
Is there a add on for real flight 9.5. Of did you have to download it from another site. Would love to have a go with this bird
@@russcole5685 go to knife edge forums swap pages. There are 5 different variants there. You import them from the "Simulation" menu in RF. There are only 2 that are based on an electric model. You need the file that says "EA" in the title. This is the basic flight model. The electric version with the suspension upgrades is the best model, but can be made better by adjusting the servo speeds and spring tension of the tail gear to your preferences. About 9 oz/in. for the tail gear spring tension tends to reduce unwanted bounce and still adds suspension. Also, the rudder servo speed could be adjusted to be a little bit better. All in all, the flight characteristics for this model are the most fluid and seemingly the most realistic.
@@cwwisk awesome my man, thanks alot for the info. I'll have a look at it this weekend. And Hello to you from little New Zealand
This Plane is Beautiful 👍
Absolutely 👍💯😁😎⚓
I'm getting mine in june!! On list!! Airplane ✈.
Haha, was waiting fir this one since Nate said it in de air 2s video
We were surprised to find out I could release the video today, so I was up till 4:00 a.m. working on this video! 👍😁😎⚓
Awesome flight with an incredible plane. I've been following Mike Patey's channel also and was hoping for a review type video on it. Great job!! You two are one of my favorites to watch! Thanks
What a SHARP looking, AWESOME performance plane!! WOW!! My favorite part is the "Flying Cowboys"...yippy-oh-kie-yay!! GREAT JOB SAYLORS on flying everything just right!! 💟👍😘
Nate, your first landing is startling similar to what wrecked the original real Draco. Great video. AWESOME plane. As Always, May God Bless you and yours!
Nice RC plane
Awesome video
Oryginaly Mike Patey starter with: Polskie Zakłady Lotnicze PZL-104 Wilga . I was born in Mielec In Poland and seen this plane many times , very universal , Mike pumped it up and make it just lots better!
I am drooling at the sight of that gorgeous plane!
Holy moly NATE you could sit on top of that monster and go for a ride.
Omg what a sweet plane
I like the new camera angle. Are you using a drone for a chase plane? Thanks for all the hard work you put into your reviews. Both of you.
Such a great looking plane, looks like a blast to fly, great flight 👍🏼
Nate, insert the z bend springs on the tail wheel assy before attaching the assy to the tail. Now insert both z bends on the tail part then attach tail wheel to the plane. Easy peasy. Enjoy
Whoa, that’s a beautiful aircraft!
Just make sure you have some altitude if you try to reverse hover. It takes a little time to switch the prop direction.
Very cool plane, would love to purchase one but I just dropped a ton of cash on a new turbine jet. Love this flying site, looks like a good place to thermal some sailplanes
I have watched you sense your RUclips beginning. Good job you and your wife have come a long way. Would love to see some setup video’s with your new nx8. All the best god bless you and your family.
Thank you very much Jim! I’ll see if we can do at least one set up video with our NX8 👍😁😎⚓️
Ordered mine through my LHS, came in yesterday. Now all I need is for the wind to die down, it stop raining, and we mow the flying field. 😎
Best E-flite plane to date! It will turn heads at any flying field!
Maybe they can make it in a park flier! That would be awesome having a baby Draco.
UMX Draco! I'll be surprised if we don't see that happen.
Love this plane!
Looks like a fantastic plane. And I loved hearing the joy in your voice right before maiden take-off. Great video! Thanks!
Can't wait to get one. Just getting out now for the season with my other planes. This is gonna be a looker at the field.
@RC4X4
Yeah, real looker LMAO and nobody will remember your name when you land your toy foam airplane and drive out of the parking lot …. What is it about mankind that we have this insatiable appetite to impress others with “THINGS” of the temporal ? Why not focus on the things of the eternal ?
@@endliberalism4305 Ha! Yeah your right.
That reverse maneuver was awesome. The four bladed prop is just too cool. It's paint job and the sound, wow!!! The scale details take it over the top. It's big enough to see easily. The shocks. Even though the are the pogo stick type, are friggin cool too. . The SOUND though. Wow
Thank you for saying the QUIET ON THE FLY BYS NATE!
Haha, you are welcome James 👍😁😎⚓
Wow this is my dream plane in real life. Might have to pick one of these up. Probably should learn how to fly rc first. Idk how this would be as a beginner plane
Hey there! I’ve been wondering, where’s the field? I live near y’all and it seems like a good place to visit and just take in the outdoors.
very well done!
Z bends go in easy if you unscrew the arm and install the z's before screwing the arm back in.
Lets hope the model wont do wing overs. R.I.P. Draco. I def need one of these. Mike is an amazing guy!
@Chainsaw FPV Don’t fall for the hype dude, it’s just another one of the thousands of toy airplanes on the market, frankly I don’t know how I ended up on this dimwits channel but do you seriously need to drop $650 after tax for a toy FOAM airplane ? C-mon bro !
@@endliberalism4305 The price is the reason I don't have one. I cant justify that much for what really is just a foam plane. As cool as it looks, maybe Flight Test will make a DIY kit for 50 bucks. I would not mind adding a rc model with that look to my collection.
Great video! This looks amazing. 🙂✈👍
Thanks Gary! 👍😁😎⚓
Nice aircraft and all but, for me, STICKER-SHOCK !
If I had that plane I'd build a little hanger for it. But big enough to put a couple of chairs in it to just sit and look at it.
Good thing u got a truck !
Lol that's right! It actually fits in the SUV with the wings off though 😉👍😁😎⚓
Please show more landings vs rolls, tricks, etc
Looks beautiful in the air and on the ground 😊
Nate's flying the big boy! It's bigger than he is .awesome acrobatic flying.watch out for that tree. You might hath to cut it down! Awesome channel guys!🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️
The trick to attaching the spring on the tail wheel is to attach them before you actually attach the shock, then it goes in really easy.
Sweet plane love it. Woild love to own one thanks for the video awsame video
Me first reading it as “the most incapacitated plane” LMAO
You could change the oil in the shock if its like the cars
Just joking, guys. Love yer vids. I’m a noob, two years in, destroyed probably ten foam home me built and two or three store bought planes. Got a good grasp on flying now, pretty good, still learning to land safely. I’ve got about fifteen flights on the Conscendo evolution, absolutely makes me look like I know what I’m doing. What a great glider. Thanks for being normal!
Nate, one clarification on the AMA liability insurance, it does cover a pilot flying at a non - chartered field, but the AMA insurance is a secondary policy, it's in excess of one's homeowner's or other insurance. But pilots need to to talk with their insurance person about it. There are some insurance policies that have a clause that basically says coverage is not extended "for damage or injury caused by an aircraft". I was able to purchase an add on liability policy for $20 a year more and it gives me $2 million in coverage and it does cover damage from model airplanes. I know a lot of pilots and clubs that have gotten the run around from the AMA when a claim was filed and the AMA has a bad habit of hiding Claims history, they are a nonprofit organization so the information should be available to the public or at least their members.....
I understand. I suppose from State to State it could differ some as well. It is always good to do personal research and always ask questions before committing to anything 👍😁😎⚓
@@TheRcSaylors I always had questioned when you guys fly at the airport whether the AMA insurance would cover you, they do have a separate policy just for that, I think it's like $20 a year which can be added on to your annual AMA dues.
I put the Z bends on the servo arm BEFORE I mounted it to the servo.
Put your lights on the R knob and you can scroll through the different light patterns!
That's a great tip! Thanks Pete 👍😁😎⚓
R knob is commonly used for flaps. Use the L or R slider on the back for light patterns instead.
Awesome vdo, guys. I like the backdrop for this plane, and the Draco is the king of STOL.
Pretty awesome the Mike patey and horizon hobbies came together
That's gonna hurt when it crashes. It's gorgeous though! Lucky you!
Nice ARF model. But it should only be a first plane for the new pilot if you can get experienced help. Don't try it alone. 1) Get your AMA membership/insurance. 2) Join a flying club if possible. 3) Get a good computer simulator and learn to fly. 4) Learn to fly with a slow flying trainer first if possible. Just my humble opinion as one who has flown RC for 30 years.
Freakin awesome airplane you guys are getting really good with the chase videos, Mad props to you best video i've seen on the Draco !!!!!!
I connected my tail springs first try cause I connected them before screwing the tail down. This plane is the most fun you can have with RC, ever. If you haven't already, there's plenty of room inside for a camera. I just posted my video with cockpit footage. Great video, love the chase footage. Nice job.
Great job guys awesome video and great chase shots..
I'll take that $5 bet.... lol Will letcha know when mine gets to me, hopefully in the next couple days. Thanks for the content!
Needle nose pliers to pull sexond spring into hole .....super easy, no bending spring or damaged parts
@@MikeSarni Thanks for the tip!
@@jhbuxton4 no problem i actually got it off of brian philips rc channel and then just did the same to mine works beautifully
@@MikeSarni I ended up attaching both/ all 4 Z bends first then attaching the shock and the other top mount bolts. Nice and easy. Take care man.
I had no problem with my spring, on the Draco!
