It’s really good when the guests vibe with you guys very naturally. It always leave us wanting more.
Too bad for Shawn’s mic, but congrats to him for Cameo.
Jirard is such a cool and interesting dude! Really love hearing about the behind the scenes stuff about G4 and just being on youtube for so long. I especially liked the really clear rebuttal that it wasn't the 'wokeness' that was the problem with G4, and that management/investors were always the issue. People want so badly to blame it on Frosk or whatever, but like, it was never that simple.
In fact, I can't get Derrick's quote out of my mind: "Nostalgia is a bitch... I can't compete with your memories."
I feel like that's always the case for these kinds of things. We think it's because of some epic meltdown that causes the collapse or major incident when the real cause for most thing is way more boring and mundane. Suits and ties that have no idea what they're doing.
After all the time and money invested in the project I find it very hard to believe that the visceral public reaction wasn't a motivating factor
@@rhenevers5229 The melt downs and major incidents are just a symptom of what you said, all the daily stress from dealing with overbearing work load and incompetents slowly dragging everyone down.

I have to echo that sentiment that I’m glad Jirard is so open, but also taking every chance he’s asked about G4 to state that it wasn’t the “woke” argument that killed them. They had a game show where Twitch streamers were the contestants and asked for like $30k an appearance, the company spent funds wildly and didn’t know how to manage it as a streaming AND TV platform, and so much more. “Please stop wishing death on a woman and let’s not bully others” isn’t a “network undoing catastrophe” many Twitter trolls made it out to be. They didn’t even listen to what was said, or the words before and after that whole “rant.” It was gross how angry people got, even profiting off of the sentiment that anti-bullying stances were somehow cataclysmic and they had to dunk on this host/reinvigorate the trolls.
Never really watched much from Jirard but that was really interesting

Loved this episode. It was great to hear Jirard's perspective on all the G4 stuff.
When y’all brought up SGC 2013 I just think back to when I volunteered at the AVGN game booth. So cool meeting the Mega64 crew that weekend. Still can’t believe it was almost 10 years ago now.
I am trying to imagine the exception reporting system for every big box retailer Loss Prevention department letting them know that a group of the same individuals is visiting every single major retailer in a 30 mile radius and buying every single Nintendo E Shop card and having all these stores talking to each other trying to figure out what this new scam/retail crime is that they're committing because I would've shit back when I did LP stuff and saw this happening assuming they were doing some shady shit.

SNES is the best. Since the snes mini came out, I was finding myself playing fan translated snes games and it felt so comfy playing them and a ton are top quality.

He could have taken any card details of the accounts and gave the Museum the account information no? then the museum just had to buy each console themselves and you give them all the extra drives and SD cards that you used as well. Perhaps they dont accpet that method as a donation option.

For all the teasing G4 got for shutting down quickly, they were making some of the best video game videos on the internet. I was always so excited whenever they uploaded something.

I would bet Shawn would be decent at Creator Clash. He's seemed like a natural athlete in a lot of old M64 vidz and there's that Eric anecdote about him uppercutting someone in a parking lot while drunk. Garrett has also always looked very fit but something tells me Shawn would actually be good at jabbing and moving and also counterpunching
As someone who just beat Xenoblade Chronicles X and is rolling right into Paper Mario without the cost of an online subscription, WiiU is stronger in retrospect than expected.

I was willing to give the reboot g4 a chance. But bottom line it's original programming still had little to do with video games, like how the original G4 died. X-Play and maybe a short lived e-sports show, but there was a show about guessing a price, arena only had one round of playing video games, a show about a guy playing a female character giving advice...Once again the channel had too little direction and not nearly enough focus on the medium it was formed for.
Lowkey: the guest today was pretty obviously not as separate from the toxicity in his workplace (G4) as he is making it sound. Keeping your title secret to rat on people you don’t officially manage, circumventing union workers to fast-track your projects outside of the company’s structure, these are toxic behaviours for a workplace. I’m sure it was par for the course there, and he seems nice outside of the dysfunctional world he was in, but let’s keep it real…
