I traveled from Ohio to New York to be in Dave’s studio audience on May 15, 1990. Just after the show ended, I yelled down to Barbara and asked if I could have the Top 10 list card as a souvenir. She said no, they kept those on file. Then without prompting from me, she grabbed a shooting script from one of the cameras, walked over, and handed it to me. Thanks again Barbara - I still have that script some 33 years later!
I have a cue card from the Tonight Show (hosted by Johnny) with the list of guests that night. I haven't looked at it in a while, but I remember that the Robert Cray band was one of the names on it.
Dave sure knew how to surround himself with awesome people of passion & integrity. 35 years is a testament to it. Am sure am not the only one thinking it: we miss you guys and thank you for all the memories & the awesome wild ride! You were part of something very special. And equally special, you were also part of our families, each night. God bless, Barbara!
Miss Barbara, that montage makes me laugh and cry every single time I watch it. Which is often. I watch it when I need to feel good. I’ve watched the show since I was in 3rd grade lol. Dave is a treasure but it’s plain to see how he got that way 😊 Thank you for all you did and all you do. ❤
Brilliant! ❤ What an incredible career! The montage will forever be a part of TV history! 👏🏻❤️👏🏻 Thank you Barbara! Looking forward to watching more "The Barbara Gaines' show" videos with special guest Mr. David Letterman 😉
I’ve been addicted to everything Dave since y purchased my first VCR. I began recording Late Night four nights a week and would bing on the week’s episodes every weekend. When the show left NBC I continued recording right up to the very last show. I am so grateful that you and Dave are keeping us addicts high on what was and will always be my favorite television program. Thank you Barbara.
You are THE BEST Barbara! The highlight of my work from home days are opening a youtube tab and seeing a new Letterman update from you and the crew. Thank you for ALL the work you've done over the years and all the work you continue to do! To many more years of love and laughs 🥰❤
Barbara’s music video look was a pretty amazing transformation! My mouth dropped open when she emerged from the dressing room - but I still think that her own style suits her best! You were always cool to us, Barbara!
Barbara, you are an absolutely amazing person with so much to be proud of and for us to be appreciative for. I can only imagine why you chose “lifesaving” as your describing word, but in many ways, you’ve certainly contributed to saving our lives. Thank you for everything and Happy Birthday!
The montage is most impressive because it syncs up so well with Foo Fighters' extra long version of Everlong. Would love to see an interview with them and hear how they worked with y'all on it.
That book at 2:57, I still have it right here on my coffee table! Bought it on Nov. 7, 1986 (I used to always write the date on books when I bought them)
The one Barbara moment that always comes to top of mind for me is when Dave went too long on one of his Conan/Jay Leno monologues (at the time Conan was leaving the Tonight Show), and then when Dave asks if he has time left, Barbara screams her characteristic “NO!” Thanks Barbara. Definitely miss Dave and his trademark irreverence on TV, considering how today’s late night shows are just too political.
3:03 Frank Mundus, per Wikipedia, "was a fisherman and charter captain based in Montauk, New York who is said to be the inspiration for the character Quint in the book and movie Jaws".
My next door neighbor and friend had colon cancer in 1982. He was 15 (he did survive). Thru make a wish he got to see Late Night live in nyc.. I asked him what it was like. He said it was like seeing Yankee Stadium for the first time
these are the greatest , when late night comedy was absolute king and peaked ... say what you want of what became before and what has happened after. letterman was the pinnacle of the format.
Late Night with Dave was the best show on television for 30 years. So cool to see these memories from former staff members. I can only imagine how their retirements are going..
I miss Dave! But I’m so grateful that I finally got tickets to the show back in 2013, before he retired. Bucket List: #1 See Dave live! ☑️ Been a viewer since the early 80s. Barbara was always great! Dave gave me an appreciation and love of NYC, edgy and crazy-fun comedy and I’ll always enjoy seeing him let Donald Trump make an a$$ of himself. 😂

Awesome!
@@bettyveronica9880 a brush with greatness!
So cool!

That's quite a prize! I'd watched The Tonight Show since the early 1970's and wanted to attend a taping, but never had the chance.
The ending montage is one of the great pieces of work in TV history
I’m glad Barbara got to do this feature. Such a cool person.
She is so sweet, and the montage is her masterpiece. It still gets to me, even after all this time.
The yelling from backstage always cracked me up. Especially when Dave would ask some involved, semi-random question and she would yell "What?" :D
That ending montage is a work of art and an excellent closer to 33 years of entertainment. Thanks again, Barbara. :)
This is by far the best episode of staff favorite moments. We all love Barbara
I will always remember the last Late Night with Springsteen because it was my 18th birthday. Memories!
You're going to have to talk amongst yourselves... I'm a bit veclempt. Love that Barbara!
I'm very much looking forward to Part 3.
and 4 and 5... to infinity and beyond!!
She probably has so many stories that she really could have her own show!
@@kstepko I thought she had her own show on RUclips, the Barbara Gaines show. Sometimes Dave is the guest.
@@ChuckAtComicListshe does 😀
Thank you, Barbara, for 35 years helping to bring us all joy, laughter, and lotsa late nights!
Watching the Barbara Gaines show will be one of my most treasured middle-aged memories.
You are maybe, the luckiest person ever to be involved at such a high level in something so epic, that will never be repeated.
My Heart LEPT WITH JOY knowing Barbara Gaines is Still Around.
Have you not been watching The Barber Gaines show here?
BARBARA!!!! This was FANTASTIC! I loved it!! You deserve a medal for working for Dave for 35 years! ❤
Brilliant work, Barbara. Your contribution to Letterman was vital, and much appreciated.
Dave presence in my life has been life saving. It got me out of my depression. Thanks Barbara for all that you did. Namaste.
Barbara. ..Legendary. That montage makes me cry . every time.
Thanks again Barbara! I still get chills and teary-eyed about it all.
Barbara helping Dave use the phone..
Classic! Always one of my favorite parts of the old show.
She was finding names in the phone book.
The ending montage was an amazing kinetic piece of art that captured the spirit and energy of Late Night. Thank you Barbara and Late night

Kids to grownups. Perfect.
Also notable that Bruce thereafter decided to lay off the barbiturates.
Did he switch to stimulants?
He certainly got more coherent after this. It was a cry for help.
I can't wait to see Dave's montage for the 'Barbara Gaines Show'.
YES!!!
Whatever they had originally planned to do couldn’t have been funnier than Barbara busting a gut as Dave quizzically holds up a plate of ribs.
That was great Barbara thank uou.. I laughed until I cried. Thank you for all the great years Dave💋
I’m looking forward to a montage of the Barbara Gaines Show!

Barbara Gaines is just the best. When the final montage originally aired, I cried like a baby. It was oh, so good. Thanks for everything. ❤
Barbara is such a genuinely awesome person

The montage is perfect. It gives me goosebumps.

Already looking forward to Parts 3 to 10, Barbara!
Been with these guys since the beginning 1982. Was an audience member 3x - 1985. 2004. 2014.
I’m right there with you Barb
The end is NEVER a good feeling. It's as though you lose your best friend. The Montage was the crutch I needed to handle that goodbye.
I love, Barbra
Love Barbara Gaines, you added and should be credited for adding a lot to the show!!
That was wonderful.
Love this! Love you all and I truly mean that.
Wonderful. Just so wonderful. Thank you, Barbara Gaines.
Wow, she´s wonderful.
Every time I see the montage I tear up a bit.
Barbara, your montage was so moving, it brings a tear, or two, every single time I see it
The montage is most impressive because it syncs up so well with Foo Fighters' extra long version of Everlong. Would love to see an interview with them and hear how they worked with y'all on it.
I love watching all these clips!! Barbara is the best!!🎉
I LOVE this!
I'm a huge fan of "The Barbara Gaines Show" and her perpetual guest, The Gorton's Fisherman.
Yes! Way to go, Barbara! From many of Dave's shows to your own show. Well done!
wow, thanks for doing this Barbara and the youtube channel has been awesome.
That book at 2:57, I still have it right here on my coffee table! Bought it on Nov. 7, 1986 (I used to always write the date on books when I bought them)
Barbara's voice --- Awesome. 👍😎👀
Truly a living legend. Thank you Dave.
Now we need a part 3!
Wow... 35 years working with the same people, it really has to be a huge part of someone's life. I can't imagine how Barbara felt the day it was over.
This was the best of all the “Staff Favorites”. Love you Barbara!!!!
Great show Barbara! Brought back some great memories
The Barbara Gaines cinematic universe. Barbara Gaines 2 - Electric Boogaloo

Barbara Gaines is to sweet for words. The final montage for Dave was so well done.
I love you Barbara 💜🎊👏
You always cracked me up.
I'm glad the Barb Gains show on RUclips too. She still has her awesome wit
I love how John Housman played along
Great memories...Barbara has always been a fabric of the show. I bet Dave is resentful of her success of the new Barbara Gaines Show.
😂😂😂
I love you Barbara! You were a HUGE part of this show.
Made me tear up.
Love Barbara! And her new RUclips show, the Barbara Gaines Show, is excellent.
I like these staff moments. Lot of fun. Thanks

How does this channel not have 1mil+ subscribers & likes for every video? So good.
AAAHHH!!! PART 2!!!
I really loved hearing about her working relationship with Dave.
❤ THANKS FOR SHARING ❤
Greatness.

Love her
Didn't know the competitive typing world was so dirty 😅
I was fortunate enough to see the taping of Letterman twice. I met Biff and Rupert too!
“I’m sweatin’ my nuts off here!”
I wouldn't mind a part 3 tbh
this is so cool to wach because i was too young to see these at the time
That Long Island accent is classic. Thank you for your service "Bahbrah".😝
