Dealers FORCED To LIQUIDATE Their 2022 Cars, So I BOUGHT THEM
My name is Brandon and I am a used car dealer. I created Car Questions Answered to share the ins and outs of the used car market from my perspective. I share with you updates on car prices, what's happening at the dealer auctions, and what it's like being a dealer. My goal is to share information to help you make the best decisions while buying a car to save you money. I do not want car dealers taking advantage of you.

We don't call them stealership for nothing.
Consumer: "You should be selling at MSRP or below MSRP"
Stealership:" We don't agree nor accept their 'Suggestion/Recommendation' on the sale price. Since it is only a "Suggestion", we will play by our rules and name our prices instead. "

I was quoted 35k for a 2025 camry xse plus taxes and fees no dealer mark ups, no nothing. When i finally see the finance manager he turns the car from 35k to 54k .The manager tried to get me at a interest rate at 9% with a 780 credit score. I told him he was out of his mind. Magically after i was walking away he got my interest to 4.99%. But then in fine print he tried sticking me with Gap insurance for $1200 and extended warranty for $3995. Car dealers are just scum.

I was informed the truck was on a special that week. Same old song and dance. Asked the price and the sales person evaded my question. So I thanked the person and walked. They attempted to stop me from leaving by asking if I’d talk with the manager? Nope I said, you folks don’t want to sell a truck and I got better things to do. All they had to do is be straight and honest. Oh I found out the truck was priced out at $98,990. What a special deal to run from plus $5,550 on the Pep Boys add ons that really cost $50.00. The Honda dealer I just bought my new 2024 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring at isn't having any trouble moving new or used cars, I actually had to order my new car middle of March to ensure I was able to get one. I picked up my new car the May 17th & left my older trade in, my trade was a 2007. I looked on their website this past Friday & my old car was actually on their used car lot, looked again Saturday night & it was gone so I'm guessing they sold it. My salesperson told they selling about 250 new vehicles a month, I believe it bc I was there from about 2pm to right around 3 or so, about every salespersons desk had a customer sitting there, the manufacturer is offering financing from 4.9% for 5 years or lower % depending on # of years or vehicle. O, this Honda dealer was $3482 cheaper that the 1st Honda dealer I went too for the exact new car & same trade in deal!

Edmunds suggested price was $32,192, both prices were before state tax, doc fee & transfer tag was added. I paid out the door $32,133 with state tax, doc fee & transfer tag, my trade in value was $1,400 so actually my OTD price was $30,733. Another Honda dealer on the other side of town wanted OTD price of $34,215 for the exact same deal, that's a $3,482 difference I saved by going to a single family owned dealership instead a dealership group.

The Mazda place right by my house has an unbelievable supply of CX-5s and other crossovers. Their overflow lot is so full that I couldn't turn around in there and had to back out. Toyota seems to have few to no new cars on their lot, they must still be doing the more "just in time" type of deliveries?
Nearby I have Subaru, Honda, Toyota, Mazda, Hyundai, and VW, all < 1 mi from my house, so I cruise the lots frequently. The mall down the road, which is nearly dead, is renting out a major section of the parking lot for dealership inventory, but I haven't gone down there lately. Last month I was in there, the 2024 Mazda 3, of which there were several, all had rusted rotors--those cars haven't moved in weeks. It's a big mix of new/used cars at the mall. There's also a more secured lot for the fancier cars that is overflowing as well. I still can't get a deal on anything, though.

    2) I like your idea. You might want to start planning for a completely separate lot. Here's a thought: you could call it "10% Over Motors" or "Cost Plus Motors": something like that. Anyway, I can tell you that once I bought from a used car dealer in Ashland, MA who, like you, used honesty and transparency as his model, and another time bought a used car on eBay motors and had it shipped from Texas, and in both cases both the cars themselves and the entire process was great. So, it can definitely work.

Is nitrogen filled tires coming from the factory? Or are they deflating the tire and putting nitrogen in the tire at the dealer? Or are they just taking off the black caps and installing green caps? If they're NOT actually adding nitrogen at the dealer - then the add on cost are deceptive. My friend who works as a porter at the Buick/GMC dealer [mind you I hadn't asked him the above questions yet - but I will] says a lady pulled up and service and said her tire was low on nitrogen. The porter mentions it to the service advisor. He was told to put some air in it. Porter goes to SA and says the nitrogen machine is down. And had been down for some time. The lady says ....did you fill it with nitrogen? The SA says "Yes Ma'am, it's all taken care of." Total BS.

To your point of Carvana or other name brand dealers listing them for less and tacking on fees. clubs (nitrogen, paint protections, etc) that they won't remove to buy, Toyota of Tampa Bay does this. I saw newer used (1 to 2 years) at near auction prices. I went in for a Camry similar to what you bought at auction for close to that price. As soon as they presented a OTD price breakdown, they had over $8,000 of useless fees added on. I walked. You will have to communicate that to your buyers. Have them look at the small print of dealers to see the fees they are hiding with the price they show. Good luck and I applaud your idea of transparency.

If that’s what you’re not disclosing yet we already know this. How refreshing to have an honest car dealer. I told a dealer last week that I’d rather eat dirt than to go into his office to purchase a car. I know how it all plays out. You test drive the car, they get a feel for how much you want the car, they “befriend” you & take you into their office where later you’ll be joined by their high trained salesman & you won’t leave their office til you’ve paid much more for the vehicle than intended. I would love to work with someone who has woke up & realizes that the consumer will not stand for this anymore!

I’m not seeing many 2020-2022 used vehicles in the pipeline for my area (757-Virginia). Even if i do see them, the mileage is outrageous (80k) and the price is still high. Your spot on, but the prices are still not reflecting in my market yet. I’ve walked away from 3 dealers this weekend alone 🤦‍♂️

I’m all for ur idea and appreciate your desire to provide a transparent experience… it’s funny bc I think that was the initial intent behind CarMax (Honest Rick’s Used Cars)…
The idea being no bs no fees transactions on used cars… though once they got big enough that principal went by the wayside!
Glad though you are out there trying to do the best for people!
I wonder if there is a way to build relationships with local franchise dealers and try and scoop their trade ins before they go to auction!
I’m looking into this myself right now!
    GL with your new project!!!!

you mentioned selling cars online. I'd like to see a video of what that entails, maybe do a start to finish video of an online out of state sale to include optional shipping costs, tax advantages, disadvantages.. When I was living in AZ I looked into buying a car in CA and those dealers told me that they had to charge taxes to sell it and then I'd have to pay again in AZ so I didn't buy that car and I really wanted it. Anyways, if that's where you're headed a video for out of state buyers could be amazing
