I cried for 1 month. I’m still in a depressive state because the meaning of this show is mind blowing. 1 episode can have so many meaning. Jim is a religious person and he choose to join to show the good vs evil. Poi is a very high intellectual show. You just need to have that mindset to understand even the directors choice of word and angles to record. After all the director is a very great director as he worked on Batman and lots of amazing movies
I love this episode SOOO much. You feel the machine in agony and anxiety TRYING to find a solution that fixes everything. The grim determination when it settles on an outcome that will almost certainly get the people she cares about killed. And the Surge of hope when their survival odds jump back up.
I was so hoping you’d do a POI take for this project, and this exceeds all my expectations. It’s my favorite of all the entries so far (though they’re all great)-and I do love the nod in it to Angel’s “all that matters is what you do.” Shaw’s journey in the show is so powerful and among my favorite elements (especially her connection to Bear!). Now I’m more eager than ever for the next full installment of your POI analysis series. But that’s not meant to be pressuring, I promise, just an indication of how appreciated it is. Thank you for your bringing so much depth and thought to this underrated series!
This is such a perfect choice for a scene to analyse, pretty much encapsulates everything I love about this show (of course every scene from this episode could have an essay dedicated to it, but the subway scene was always a standout).
I'm really impressed how well chosen the scenes shown are. They perfectly fit the spoken essay. It's also always great to see more person of interest content. That's still by far my favorite show I've ever seen.
My only quibble would be that Shaw isn't just self-described as a sociopath. It's the reason she was booted from her career in medicine and also likely a part of why she was recruited into program in the first place. The only thing revealed in that flashback scene was that she was aware of what her diagnosis was before it was officially acknowledged by the hospital administration and as such part of her official records for the machine to ultimately uncover.
Interestingly, she isn't a sociopath. Not the way they wrote her, at least. Either they wanted to present her as misunderstood, or the writers just didn't know how to make a sociopath. She does definitely have a personality disorder, though, no contest.
I like that Angel quote at the beginning :) Your channel really is the perfect combination of almost all of my special interests, very happy to subscribe
seriously though, if-then-else is one of my favorite episodes ever. succession's connor's wedding is a close second but i don't think anything will ever top this one, it's a masterpiece. you said poi gets this "larger than life" feeling as seasons go by and i think this is one of the episodes that pretty much illustrate that. even shaw's "side quest" in the subway holds so much symbolism and tells us so much about the machine while still acknowledging shaw's growth as a character, it really complements the series as a whole. thank you for the poi videos, i'm a big fan of the show and it's really nice i get to revisit my favorite bits with other fans after so many years ❤
I love this series and it's certainly been overlooked, so I appreciate this video - especially since I had forgotten the subway episode. Not to be a downer, but the idea that "you're not alone in your suffering" never offered any kind of comfort for me (and I'm not a sociopath, so it would def not mean anything to someone who was) - if anything, it made me feel worse because (from my messed up pov) other people seemed better able to cope with their suffering, which only reinforced that there was something wrong with me and I was not meant to be part of this world. Luckily, I've since moved away from that way of thinking.
This is definitely one of my favorite episodes, in large part because of that scene. I love how so beautifully handles both hope in scenes like this and loss in the scene where Carter dies. That phone ringing after the screen goes to black gives me goosebumps every time
Sameen Shaw is my hero! What a perfect character in every way OMG... S2E16, S4E11, S5E4 are all the best episodes ever... IS THERE ANY CHARACTER LIKE HER PLS I NEED TO KNOW
(philosophy alert) that final quote this entire video and the scene it references is essentially just a 'rejection' of Absurdism. Which is just perfect. You can either despair or accept the horrific reality of existence but finding 'meaning' in Humanity itself is HONESTLY one of the few good "bad" answers to Absurdism. Yes you may be saying that "1+1=3" philosophically, but if your society is caring and loving towards eachother... does it matter? The true meaning of life is the love and help we give eachother.
This is great to see you coming back to this, and I'm excited to watch! But also, did you do 1x5 through 4x10, and I just missed it? Where could I find those?
@@marcus8176 POI is my favourite show, no contest. I am curious about the Jim being problematic, I'm not a fan of him post poi due to what I've seen of him after etc. But was there anything problematic during his time on the show or is it how he portrayed John that was problematic? Genuinely curious (Love all the characters, even John)
This was a good episode, however at one point John had access to the bad guys assault rifles, which would have increased their chances, but no, he sticks to his handgun
Ok i recommand a webtoon kubera the last god, with a better fantranslation, that really gives me that now, and is smart, and emotional, and as mystery, so good, with characters. Like that the universe is incredible tragic, but there is impossible hope, somehow, and about humanity, and if the universe is even worth it, and capitalism i think oddly enough. And how do , its tragic but engaging and, slowburn. But so ... And psychological yet funny, to make it hurt even more.
An old lesson. No matter who you are, where you are from, or where you go, or what you do; people will be people. Identitarians disagree, but who listens to Nazis, other than Nazis.
I'm not in love with the last season especially since it is always weak and I'm quite sure that it doesn't end in a non-blique way too so I wish it would have had more or ended on a better positive note.
Person of interest is a mirror for crazy ex girlfriend

;)
As someone who has never seen Person of Interest, this makes a compelling case to watch it.
It's imo a wonderful show. I love it to bits, and got so attached to the characters. I'd highly recommend it.
It's so good 😂 if you like action, good characters, and deep stories you'll have a ball
Its reallythat good, through season one os a solid build up, but yep that good, and finches dialogues, good
I hope you did!
I hope youll come back & let us know what you think. :)
I was on the fence re: watching this show. You convinced me that I should.
I love this fxcking show 😂 if I could wipe my memory just to watch it again, I would 😂
You know, I would LOVE to read a novel by you. Your insight is always so on point, I feel like you really understand the heart of a great story
This analysis made me cry. I watched Person of Interest as a kid, so a lot of it went over my head. This just reminded me to watch it again.
it's so good to know someone else in the world loves this show as much as I do and gets it
It's so good 😭❤️
Exactly
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about this wonderful show. I needed to hear this today.

Sarah Shahi was great as a police detective in the underappreciated "Life" TV series, also.
Sarah Shahi is great in everything she does
Wow, your "take" of this episode is so inspirational, thank you .. sincerely THANKS...great video

Thank you for the lovely POI content! 🌟🌟
Lovely Sara.
thank you for setting this up
Great take on that ep and the overall theme of the show!! ^_^
Loved this episode. It had suspense, humour, and a lot of heart.
Packed a huge emotional punch, especially for us gays. Thanks for sticking with POI.
Person of Interesr is the one show that would have a great five years later movie or mini-seriesbut only if done with respect to the original series
Okay I said if watch one episode then go to bed.
*4 episodes later*
I liked these analyses so much I had to watch more of them.
"hope is other people" oh what a great quote! fits the show perfectly. sorry sartre, guess you were wrong.
More POI videos, please - they are all great
Agreed 👍🏾
life isnt the problem, people are.

love it!

it’s very very close to a perfect show

hope is what sets PoI apart from Westworld, which is depressingly bleak and cynical
1:05 Root is the only person that refers to The Machine as "She".

this was all bleak. the main character dies. everyone of them suffers.
Bleakness is not realistic
