    • @tejetski
      @tejetski 3 года назад +16

This would actually explain the name of the song Ballad of the Cats. The cats are actually ghasts, so it really means, sad song of the ghasts. Which makes since even more, because of the advancement Uneasy Alliance. Ghasts are trapped in the nether. This is why they cry, and why their song is one of the most horrifying and heartbreaking.

My brother and I wanted to kill the Ender Dragon after a long time of holding it out in survival. When we finally came into the end and that exact song you mentioned came in, I recognised it from the full soundtrack, I recognised that it was that song, because it sounded like the normal Minecraft theme but distorted. Then when we took down all of the healing crystals, and we finally started with taking down the dragon, and at that moment the epic beat that I can't really describe kicked in. I don't know if you understand what I am talking about, listen to the soundtrack (The End) at around a little more then 8 minutes. While that music played, we fought the dragon and it was one of the most hypeful and at the same time very grand and terrifying moments we had ever had in the game. Hearing all those overworld songs again, all distorted but still recognisable, made the whole fight extra great and grand. Man this game gives you the feels...

This video reminded me why I like watching breakdowns. You could have very easily filled this too the brim with out of context memes, awkward pauses and zoom-ins, along with lots of horrible puns. While not managing to make a single point. But you actually put effort into this. You tried too convey how each piece makes you feel. Even showing a bit of understanding of music yourself. This also clearly took some real effort. You should be applauded for conveying in a wonderful way what clearly means a lot too you.
    Thank you for that.

@@_havien3 Pigstep obviously doesn't fit in with the general atmosphere created by C418's and Lena Raine's other compositions for the Nether, but this song should by no means be taken as a part of the Nether's soundtrack.
It's a music disc. You acquire it as a reward from clearing a specific location that would be otherwise impossible to obtain. Just like the other records, they're meant to be aspects of Minecraft's ost extrapolated and exaggerated to the nth degree. The same way pieces like Stal, Blocks, Cat, or Ward would be completely unfitting if they played as normal Minecraft music but work so well as records, Pigstep is too.
You're allowed to still dislike Pigstep, of course, but I just felt like explaining why Pigstep shouldn't be disliked for the specific reason of "it's unfitting."

Actually listening to the music from the end made me think of something. The nether isn’t another dimension, it’s just the planets mantle, hence the kinda similar but more grungy music. The music in the end is a distorted and jacked up version of the main theme. So what if the end isn’t another dimension, but the end. What if the end is what’s left of the planet, years and years into the future?

When I was about 12 I was playing minecraft with my brothers and my sisters and having a blast. We were building a house for my sister who had just joined us and fighting each other to see who was the best. That day has been one of my favorite memories by far, not because of the fun we had or who I was playing with, but because of the songs that played. All the songs from clark to Minecraft played and they just bring so much joy to me when I hear them. I feel like the songs aren't memories you can tweak but rather memories that are implanted and kept the same forever. And thats what makes the music so fascinating that every time you hear it you feel that feeling that almost everyone that has played minecraft have felt.

The End was AMAZING as it set the feeling for the islands ahead, it took a completely encompassed how I felt when I entered for the first time in Survival. When the heavier synth began to kick in, I was amped up to finally escape.
I do want to hear one thing though: What do you think of the new Nether tracks? I'm always interested in all the varied synths and the fact that they seem to fit greatly with different biomes there. Lena Raine was the perfect person for the job, she know how to create emotional tracks no matter what the instruments. It reminded me of many experiences, from Starbound's "Tranquility Base" to Black Mesa: Xen's "Hunting Grounds".

Somewhat sad there was no mention for Underwater music. So bubbly, whirly and deep just like the ocean you're swimming in. It really encourages just to swim and look around how dolphins are playing with kelp leaves that fell off the fallen gravel, fishes swimming away from you, bubbles whirling from magma blocks in underwater ravines and caves 99% filled with water. Dragon Fish, Axolotl and Shuniji, every one is such a breeze to your ears, but Dragon Fish is my personal favorite, I especially associate it with my coop survival with friends when I travelled over 20k blocks through the Nether and got the Nether portal in a cave right in front of one underwater ravine. I was far away from home and friends and could not return home just yet, I needed to recover, so I built a little underwater house out of quartz I was collecting along the way through the Nether, also added few magma blocks to avoid drowning. And while I was doing that, I got Dragon Fish, like, thrice, but yet, I did not get sick of it, not even in the slightest, perhaps, I felt the depths of it even more every time I listened. I felt like it was one of the best things in that survival.

I grew up on Minecraft, and the background songs of this game have me wishing I could go back and relive the memories of being a child. It saddened me knowing that those memories are all I have. However, as of recent, I've been on-and-off about keeping the soundtrack playing. Usually, I disable it if I'm listening to something else but if I have nothing to listen to, that bad boy goes on. The first is from 2013, where in a creative world, I got lost because I made and went through a random nether portal, but I was never able to find my way back to my builds. While I was fruitlessly trying to get back, this song played.

A mild criticism of minecraft's composition.
While it's existing soundtrack is near perfect, there's not enough of it to cover the whole game. There is no song that goes over those tense moments during combat where you're on half a heart running away from a dozen mobs. There is no spooky song that plays at night, which is supposed to be dangerous. There's not even a song for the ender dragon fight. When's the last time you fought the ender dragon? It's incredibly awkward. A little tense music would completely remedy this, but minecraft just falls flat on it's face. Have you been to the woodland mansion? It's very tense, and yet, no music. Raids? No music. Nether? There is music, a step in the right direction. Ocean monument? The chance of drowning is high and yet, no music. It's pathetic.
People regard minecraft's OST as incredible and untouchable. Like it's the perfect soundtrack. In my opinion, it's not. It just isn't. I, too feel reflective when I listen to "Sweden" or "Wet hands". But what does minecraft have to show for the tense moments? Nothing.
tl;dr, minecraft's music is good but it needs improvement. C'mon just add some ender dragon fight music and you're set.

Something this video helped me do was contextualize my relationship with Minecraft. I played all the time as a kid, and I associate many of the older tracks (like Minecraft and Sweden) with “the good old days” of watching Minecraft videos on RUclips from beta. Listening to them brings back memories of that time, of building a house entirely out of wool and glass in Creative because I thought that was the kind of house I would like. And when I stopped, that was the beginning of one of the darkest times in my life. I fell out with every friend I had. I had resigned myself to being insignificant, unwanted....
    Alone.
When I came back to Minecraft, I was in a somewhat better place. The new songs welcomed me in, along with the nostalgic tracks bringing back nostalgia. I had new friends, a new reason to play the game, and more ideas beyond my younger self. Even though I haven’t played in a week and a half, I know I’ll come back.
And then, listening to this video, I had that revelation. I understood it. I was the universe. The universe meant something. I mean something. I don’t like it when people say “this video/creator was the only thing keeping me alive in this time period”, but I will say thy this video helped me change my worldview. Thank you.
