I had a company Vauxhall Frontera fitted with Michelin tyres from the factory, I then got another same spec new Frontera 3 years later, but this came with Goodyear tyres and had actually 10% worse fuel economy and the service shop checked the car over and couldn't find any problem, so I agree with you the tyres you fit can be more costly than fitting good quality low resistance tyres

Over the years over pressurizing has always made the center wear more thus tire needs to be replaced sooner. This over inflation is cause by setting the tire pressure up first thing in the morning when temp is cold at recommended psi so once warmed up tire is over pressure by a few psi. PSI and temp is about 1psi change for every 10*F tire temp, for example in the morning if the tire temp is 50*F and tire pressure is 28psi, middle of the afternoon tire temp is 80*F psi is 31psi. Now a days I use a infrared thermal gun to check tire temp. I want my psi to be at recommended pressure at 70*F. So in the morning if the tire temp is 50*F, I'll set the psi down 2psi from recommended psi.

If you’re one of those people that pays so much attention to your fuel economy to the point that you refuse to punch it on an on-ramp when merging into a 75mph freeway lane, you need to sell your car and buy a bicycle for the good of humanity. I’ve seen those ignorant and irresponsible drivers cut off a semi and cause wrecks while they drive away at 30mph leaving the wreck of the accident they just caused behind.

Re #2. I had a 2003 mercedes s600 and the gps wanted to know the tire size so it could calculate your distance traveled. That infotainment screen was junk in 2015.

or rolling a marshmallow ball XD, or a tire that's a bit low on pressure?

I'm curious. Those worn tires that you mentioned looked acceptable to get through the summer. What are you recommending the tread depth of tires to be considered worn out? They looked to be at least 5mm in the video, but I could be wrong.

Hello @tryingtobehelpful. You're very observant and absolutely right - those "old" tires still have enough tread on them, and they would make it through another summer. The problem is that my alignment was out of whack last summer, but I didn't realize it. This made the tires wear out evenly, so when I put them back on my car after winter, two of them were making noise. I fixed the alignment issue, and decided to replace all four tires. The noise is gone and all is well in the universe again.
