    In my teenage days I replaced the original carburetor with a Weber high performance carburetor. It wasn’t running properly, I went to see my trusted VW guru and said the problem is that your distributor is vacuum advanced and not compatible with your new carb. The solution was to replace the distributor with a mechanical advanced distributor, problem solved. What did I know at the time, I was only 16 at the time.

    Great video. Thanks for sharing. From the first turn of the key, it sounded like it was running on 3 cylinders rather than a carb problem. Not a fan of the pan filter. I ran a 1302S (1600cc) with a Nikki twin choke carb with pan filter back in the 1980s and the manifold would freeze up until I added the cardboard pre- heat tube into the side of the filter.

    That screw you're thinking is supposed to be 1.5 turns out is actually an idle jet, not a mixture adjustment screw. Solex carbs have something similar, when you're having trouble getting a solex carb to idle and you crack that jet to get it to idle, it's not a permanent solution, although some guys will grind/file a line in the end of the jet as a band-aid.

    That screw your were trying to adjust is the idle jet. That's the thing I like most about the weber carbs is the ez access of the idle jets. One thing I learned with mine is the air filter assembly that comes with them is junk. Needs a better air breather assembly.

  • @vwsandvettes3253
    @vwsandvettes3253 3 года назад +2

    Hi Jason. I believe the air adjustment (idle air speed) screw on that 32/36 DFV is actually at the base of the carb where it meets the manifold. I am not sure which side of the carb (the side you can get at or the fan shroud side!) the air speed screw is on. In the video it "looks" like there is a small hole at the base of the carb just above the support bracket. Could that be where the air speed screw was but fell out of? If you can get at the base of the front of the carb next to the fan shroud try to see if you can feel the screw head . The screw at the top of the carb you were turning is one of 2 idle jets. Each barrel of the carb has its own idle jet, and these should stay tight in the carb. Once you locate the air speed screw check that it isn't bent and is screwed 1.5 - 2 turns out. Good luck and nice '67 you have there!

    • @5150mxVW
      @5150mxVW  3 года назад +1

      Hi , yes I probably had my lingo wrong , I was able to turn the idle adjustment ( base backside ) with my finger and a screwdriver slid topside on the screw slot . I was thinking the idle jets were adjustable as well , I will screw them back in . From what i've read these carbs need the correct dizzy and muffler pre heat ....I'm going to go stock or duals . Thank you for the info , I appreciate it , have a great weekend .

    Yes, quite right, an amateur resto-mod. Your 67 appears to be an early 67 due to the front seat-back release lever position at floor level. With that Weber type progressive two-barrel carb, expect about 18 mpg at best and a carb flat-spot upon acceleration. I know, I have one just like it. I expect the engine is a 1641cc slip-in kit. Add the matching cigarette lighter. Has after-market Mexican or Brazilian front fenders and probably explains why the spare well was redone. Missing it's original "Hella", chromed brass, SB-12 headlight trim rings. Incorrect rims and caps. Yes, running on 3 cylinders, probably a partially plugged idle jet, etc. You might also replace the heater on this, too. Otherwise, you have the basic makings of a nice 67 Bug.

    Big law suit on original gas cap and placement. Current cap is heavy steel replacement.

    That much chrome aftermarket crap is always a bad sign... More money than sense.
    Oh hey! That shifter-base cover! Ha! Now I know what that piece of random plastic that came with one of my Bugs is!

    That cheap upholstery, save the headliner, looks pretty good to me. Headliner looks as though it recently lost 50 lbs.

    Those extra wide rims on that car would look much better on a early car because they have more narrow axles. On that car they stick out too much Try them on an early car. you might like them better

    I think you need to learn how the carb works first, I think the screw you were adjusting was a jet not a air mixture screw. Not sure though.

    Looks like they put a lot into it but they removed the heater stoves and all that pretty chrome holds heat can cause a overheating issue Did not know that until a VW guy pointed that out I put chrome rocker covers on mine the stock ones dissipate heat much better he said same for a fan shroud too .I’d get rid of that carburetor I fooled with one for a month and still was not right and cause heating issues put a p 1 on it and solved it all but hard to get parts for them looks like a non stock distributor the Porsche mechanical advance I always had the best luck with had a fancy dual point one once was nothing but trouble looks like a good start wish I still had the VWs I had as a teen and made dune buggy’s and Baja bugs out of .

    It seems there are multiple issues with the carb tuning that you can sort with some familiarisation. I hope you and Josh can do it because it looks like a nice car. I agree about the lowering though, makes it look a bit squashed. Have fun with it 😊👍

    The car is nice, but it looks like it is the carburetor, I had a 1973 Super Beetle, it had a similar carburetor, and what a piece of junk that was it was so that I ended up putting a Volkswagen Solex Carburetor, that car runs like a charm, I sold that car the only that had to be done was a paint job, the car runs awesome, the engine I had it rebuilt with new OEM parts, the transmission I reached it cause it would pop out of gear, somebody gave me the 2 front buckets in their factory vynil,the person who bought it had it painted and he has a new car.

      well I just found out it was painted in 2015 ( a friend texted me that their friend did the paint ), which makes sense with tire date of 2014 and my feeling that the motor has almost no miles on it ....
