How to adjust valves in 5 steps: 1.- Align crank pulley to TDC mark 2.- Pop distributor cap off and see if rotor points to cyl 1 or 3 3.- Pop both valve covers off 4.- If distributor rotor points to cyl 1, adjust both cyl1 valves, cyl 2 intake and cyl 4 exhaust. If distributor rotor points to cyl 3, adjust both cyl3 valves, cyl 4 intake and cyl 2 exhaust. 5.- Turn crank pulley 1 full turn and adjust remaining valves.
Herby!!😎✌🏻❤️. First thought when I saw this 😊. Had a 58 with a cloth sun roof when I was a teen. Never got it going. Ha that was 1975. Good luck with her. ✌🏻
@@5150mxVW My first car was a green ‘67 bug. Drove it between Hanover NH and Amherst MA when I was in college in the late 70’s. The gas mileage was amazing and during the OPEC oil embargo everyone in their abandoned land yachts gave me jealous looks. Tho a parka in the winter was a required accessory before the heater got going.
I like these long ones so I can kick my feet up.... drink a few beers and see what's going on in your world. It's relaxing and I'm not happy unless I'm learning, which I'm always doing on your channel Beer, knowledge a few tacos.... life is good.
A VW rolling on the first date, unheard of. Glad Josh got on camera or I’d never have believed it😁 It’s a good looking car, doesn’t sound too bad either. There are still some goods ones out there
Hey Bud We’re getting to the age that everything we touch is an issue due to when we were younger so we’re the cars 😂🤣, Our expectation wasn’t perfect and now we strive for that, Yep the earth needs cleaning, She runs sweet, If they were all like this one then it’s all plain sailing, Just a weekends work 😂🤣, Keep the videos coming we’re with you all the way Buddy even in the 🇬🇧
Saw John Muir's book under the bonnet(hood), I bought that book in 1977 when I bought my first beetle, a '74 1200, that book save me a ton of money over the years and I still have it although no beetles for quite some time ☹
Compared to some of the stuff you've dragged home - this one is brand new out the box .. .. .. .. ha ha ha ha ha. I definitely like after you've worked your magic. Best !!
Dear big "J". Before I'm even through watching this video, I simply have to say: You, Sir, have obviously become highly professional in pushing cars around! Without a doubt! Congrats! 👍👌👏
Will it push....yes....Will it run.....oh ya........Will it shine.....You betcha. Winner, winner, chicken dinner. Nice job Jason. Take care and see ya next time. John here, from the back-roads of Notheastern Tennessee.
I had that same 65, Bahama Blue with a crank open sunroof. It got me through my first 3 years of college, 71 - 74, till I traded for a sweet 67. Keep up the great finds!
Beautiful…incredible condition for its age…I had a 66 in 1970 and 69 in 1978._ 150,000 on both cars…I had both rebuilt at some point…I like the upholstery job…
Picking up some of that polish now. You should setup an affiliate link and link the products you use so you can get some kickbacks. I certainly wouldn't have heard about that stuff if it weren't for you. Looks like that stuff is amazing.
I had a green 65 no sunroof , drove it for years without heat in the winter ! Lol. Father in law had a 71 super beetle and a 84 Rabbit diesel ( 52 mpg ) !
You really know how to find them 5150, the 65 is a beautiful car, awesome it has a sunroof as well. You know you’re going to need a bigger workshop don’t you!! Power to you brother, I love your collection.
That has to be one of the nicest beetles I've seen in a long time Jason! Our cat Jazz is suffering through a cold and has been sitting on my lap all day as I work on a computer build so I was looking for one of your older videos I hadn't seen in a while and this came up!! It is always time well spent when we watch your videos!
Winner, winner, chicken dinner! Looks like a deal for sure, Jason. She runs great. Lots of potential. Of course Jen’s opinion is the one that really counts!
Hey Jason.....Nice 65 VW interior is really nice. I like the Blue. AT least no Rot Just for the back side. Yes it's definitely a runner... You have a great car Jason!
I love it, my Dad owned many Volkswagens over the years, his first Experience was driving a Kubelwagen that he captured in WWII. His first Volkswagen was a Turkis 61 Beetle 😁, then he had 63,64,66 Buses and he had a 69 Bus when I was born. I just got my second Beetle originally Diamond Green 1956 Oval , I've had around 15 Early and Late Bay window Buses over the years and a couple Squarebacks. I enjoy watching all of your videos 😁
I had a 68 and loved it, got Tboned on passenger side (I was alone thank God). It started after the accident and I drove it home, could rest my elbows on both door handles. Kept smelling electrical burning, got it home and turned it off and that was the last time it ran for me. Sold it and a spare engine as parts, still hurts.
You are correct. There is no substitute for a rebuilt carb from Tim at Volksbitz. Worth every penny. Help him out and send him some good cores if you have access to any..They don't make the German stuff anymore you know.
Always good to hear that a car had been in a dry condition garage that makes all the difference. Josh won't have to push this one around which he will be pleased about. The interior looks good, I wouldn't know if it is original but it is matching so stick with it Jason. As you say that is minor rust for your area so that is fine and running boards too! The sun roof will definitely need some work but she is a good solid car overall and a runner. Thanks for sharing this video Jason and Josh for some of the filming.👍👍
10:48 is that an aluminum roofing nail laying in there? Oh pick er' out before you roll over it. Like the vac advance distributor. It really helped my 71" run great when she is fed the onions. Love the vids. Thanks for posting.
Looks like you found a solid car. I know what you were doing, if you can get it to run on 3 cylinders, it will darn sure run on 4 (once you put the spark plug wire on).
That is a nice one you found. I found my 65 bug in the woods of Sherwood, Oregon. 4 new tires, new battery and it started right away. It ran great until the mechanic sat in it and put the seat through the floor. It had a 1680 Dual port with the started gone. Just push it a little and it started right up. Good video worth the watch.
I'm not a VW guy but I am a car guy. I would say that's a score! All things considering the body is not bad at all and the engine sounds awesome! I would clean it up and get it road Worthy and drive it as is. Nice!😎👍
She's a runner for sure Jason. Interior looks great, love the seat covers and dash. Nothing like a good cleaner and 4 ought steel wool pad to get the chrome looking great. Now I'll wait to see updated episodes of getting the '65 back on the road.👍
my first car was a 65 bug, 6 volt. I loved that thing, my second car was a 66 and I loved that car even more. I put a ton of work into it. thanks for sharing your adventures with these beautiful cars.

Wow 1965 bug. That was the car I took my drivers test in. Passed first try. Such a fun car to drive.
I learned to drive in a ‘65 Bahama Blue (minus the sunroof) but it was a couple of years before I was old enough to take the DL test.

Couple of those patch panels from TABCO for the rear quarters and your good to go. spot paint them in with a spray can and its a daily driver.

Nice score homie!!! 65s are great!! I'm so tired of "mice action" Hahaha
thank you Chris , still can't believe how solid it is and NO mice !
Did you know that's a one year car? It's the only year that the beetle had a 1200cc engine and the following:
Master and wheel cylinders redesigned.
New cooling air control with flaps under fan (formerly annular ring inside fan).
Improved heater.
Lever type heater controls.
Slightly curved ‘flat' windscreen, and slightly bigger.
Slimmer door posts and windscreen posts.
Window vent has lock moved to bottom.
More powerful wiper motor, and longer blades.
Thinner, more contoured front seats (increased rear leg room).
Rear seat folds flat.
Engine lid catch now push-button.
Swivelling sun visors.
Convertibles have dome light in rear view mirror assembly.
