It made the national news and all of the national newspapers. I would assume it went worldwide. It was just unheard of for any athlete to win that much money for one event. Even the Indy 500 didn't pay that much to win in '85. R.J. Reynolds hit a home run with that promotion in '85.

It was the Duke Boys and the Incredible Hulk on Friday nights during my youth..Then Big Chuck/Houlihan-Lil John late Friday night with a scary movie, then Superhost on Saturday. God i miss those days ...late 70s-early '80s were grand in the 330/216
Man, the Duckie Boys where hot that time in the pits. Thats when half was on the team , the others where locals they grab from a gin joint downtown across the street from the cat house. U know, don't try to hide it😂
I don't think so. I know at one point they had the phone number for Farm Aid on the 3 car's TV panel (might have even been this race) but that was the extent of that.

I became an Elliott fan watching this race. This was my first nascar race to watch on TV.
