Just listened to this today, felt like a song from the good old days of rock and roll of our folks. I listened to it back to back like 10 times
IDK about 10 times in a row, but yea, first alternative rock song I've felt was a classic in a long, long time
Was in Canada 15 years ago, Ottawa st mcarthurs street. Stayed for 3 years and it was my twilight. I know now that if I did go back it wouldn't be the same, it would be no different then america.

I've listened to these guys for years, and I don't' get why they're not bigger than they are. I understand not wanting to hit the mainstream, but you'd think they'd still have a bigger fan base. They have always come out with F***in' quality tunes.

I love this song, it is so good it boggles my mind. The lyrics, drums and guitar work are so good together and unique the artists should be very proud of their talent. If that came mostly naturally I am amazed. I don't know the intended meaning of the lyrics, but I am fascinated with the American economy, and global economy for that matter, and every time I hear this song it resonates with me. So good.

gorgeous. the narration at the beginning, the limited movement, how each specific sequence was lit in a certain way. it's a very surreal video and, even hating donald trump as much as i do i really, really liked the use of his speech.

I feel like people are reading into the Trump reference too much (pretty sure Trump isn't responsible for wildfires and superstorms and other things referenced), but I'm pretty terrible at interpreting songs and music videos, so... Anyone wanna tell me their interpretations?

I interpreted the apocalyptic events as a general metaphor for the end of the world.
What I saw the speech as was a representation of how America (and one could argue, the world) has lost its way in terms of pursuing what truly matters in life. Pay close attention to what his speech is juxtaposed against. While trump speaks about things like 'victory' and 'trade deals' we see images of a man and wife, an old man living out the last days of life, and a young couple after sex.
The imagery speaks to what's truly important: love/relationships, happiness, and living a good long life. But trump, speaking for our society, only emphasizes importance on 'winning' and 'trade deals', shallow concepts that ultimately do not ever lead to real happiness and freedom. Yet our society pursues these things and often values them higher than anything else. I think this could also link back to what the young woman spoke about in the beginning. She spoke about the people before us, and how eventually, for some reason, earth tired of them and got rid of them. The same thing is happening in this video to modern man, and I believe the placement of Trump's speech is supposed to indicate why. Man has lost his way, pursuing and valuing money, materials, and winning over love, happiness, and living life.
This is further emphasized in the lyrics, where Wintersleep goes on to speak of the initial and stated values of America from when it was formed: freedom, love, law, and life. What truly matters. But he prefaces this statement with: "Are you alive, oh my America?" and "I can't survive on my America", basically saying that the America he knew of freedom, love, law, and life, is dead, and lamenting over the time he shared with it, but how it's no longer what it used to be.
Look back to 4:57. Trump says "We'd win. We'd always win." against the image of a dying man, having lived out his life, looking into the light. Does it look like winning matters to him? Should it? The video is supposed to give you an idea of what's important. Money, objects, they're all meaningless in terms of the scope of your existence. When you are in the same position as the old man, will you care about trade deals and winning? No. You will remember your life, happiness, love, and people. Each day could be your last (as it is for the people in the video). Don't spend it chasing empty pursuits and shallow goals. Spend it pursuing the true 'ideals' of Amerika: freedom, love, and life.
In this video, Trump is symbolizing what our society, our 'Amerika' has become: a cesspit of greed, materialism, and emphasis of superiority over others. How anyone could see this video as 'pro-Trump' is beyond me.
Easy, it's because they associate the decay shown in the video with the downfall of America brought about by the liberal globalist policies Trump is fighting against. They see the decay not as the future but as the present. Trump did not create the decay, in fact he is determined to reverse it. He may be wrong, but going the way we have been will only lead to greater decay.

Ok, maybe because there are so many losers.
No one wants to be left behind when the collapse comes. Even now people starve everyday as they have for their entire lives. As long as we keep having shiny toys to play with and remained entertained by circuses, we can forget about how we'll pay for our next meal or where it comes from. There's a disconnect of reality about the repercussions of our actions. The ecosystems are cyclical, great nations have fallen yet we are so shortsighted that our #winnings are bringing us closer to the edge of the cliff.

I think this song and video are easily interpreted into whatever people want to think when it comes to their politics. I think the only sure thing this video tells us is that America is in trouble and is not what it once was. This is also basically the message from the sound bites taken from Trump speeches. The problem is that although this song and the speech fragments point out that there is something wrong with society today, neither tells us how to correct it. I think that is the main problem today. We know there are issues...We don't know how to fix them. That is what we need to discover.
