I literally avoided any interaction with them, just left them off to the side before stopping the game at around act 8 when it wanted me to focus on companion stuff and hit me with back to back cutscenes that were unbearable. I could have skipped it and skipped all the companion interactions but at that point what's the point of the story.

Those pronouns differ so much from the normal german gender pronouns, that they even ruin the entire flow of every sentence you put them in. A character that simply goes by they/them is enough. A romance with a character that has trans scars is fine, and perhaps in *organic* conversation, they can even come up. But there is a difference been the realistic depiction of people of all kinds and... this. It feels forced, and awkward and clunky. People, at least decent people, are not angry with the game for showcasing diversity. They are angry with the game for doing it in a manner that seems insincere and disingenuous.

glad i decided never ever to buy or play this game how could they do this to my second favorite character in the series. Hopefully my other fav character was too minor to warant an appearance...at least Tallis is safe in my eyes and memories. Pretty sure I won't buy or even play the new Mass Effect either. Don't want them to ruin my fond memories of the trilogy or even Andromeda.

To your second point, the situation was actually addressed in a respectful way. Trans people who are misgendered do not want an extensive apology. They want it to be corrected and to move on. The pushups were a tad eye-rolling, but it does address the matter of not lingering on the mistake.
