I remember in Dragon Age Origins, Wynne and Alistair had a playful but kind mother-son relationship. Wynne even remarked on Alistair's dirty soak and cleaned it for him. Eventually, Wynne got comfortable enough to talk to Alistair about her son and having to give him up because she was in the Circle of Magi and hoping he grew up to be like him. It showed growth between the characters that they were more willing to share sensitive things about their past but also there were characters unwilling to look past the others actions. Compared that to this and it's almost an execution of a franchise.
