So I’ve been a metal head for years, and I’ve recently had a change in tastes. In the process, that means I’ve become extremely interested in jazz, and less distortion. Some serious voodoo happening in those fingers man. Good video!

George has been analyzed so many times by so many different guys he does things at lighting speed and precision with impeccable timing. I be wondering is he thinking of all his runs and riffs beforehand or is he just reacting naturally? Being a former child prodigy his mind, skills and approach is just different, he just does it and let everyone else figure it out. He himself may not can explain all that he does his musicial mind is off the charts. You do a fantastic job explaining a section that he does and it took awhile for you (a very good player) to figure it out. He has tons of songs and remarkable solos that make even an accomplished player shake their heads. To continually come up with different complex solos over a long and distinguished career without being redundant says he is a master of the guitar. Nice job explaining for us regular guitarist.

That brother's been around a long time. He singlehandedly bridged classical music to jazz. Few have done what this brother's done. There's Deep Purple; John McLaughlin, Yes, and others. But brother George was the first nationally broadcast.

Thanks for the great video. The lick is a variation of a lick that Wes Montgomery often used eg. in Four on Six. It’s much easier if you rework the fingering to play it with some slides and only 3 fingers. I’m pretty sure that’s how benson plays it too.

as a musician that enjoys martial arts, seeing his flow state reminded me of a fighter totally zoned in as well. licks are a lot like martial arts combos that one keeps holstered i guess. working at GC, a person asked me what the difference was between riffs and licks... this video is a great break down on that difference.

GB does construct his licks and Breezing solo is a perfect example. there’s a lot of recordings even now are not much different than the original solos on that album.
The more interesting question is why he chose to do a C Minor arpeggio etc. because then you can construct your own darn solos using your technique.

Great line and way to play it!
But, in my opinion watching the vid George plays this all in one position starting with the C (pinky) in 10th position on the low E string. For me that is a much easier way to play it, less streching and no position shifts.

This is a fantastic lesson and George has always been a favorite of mine, despite the fact that I'm not a "jazzer" by any means. You are a fantastic player yourself, and I look forward to checking out some more of the content on your channel. Do you have any suggestions on how to pick the lick - as in alternate picking, economy picking etc. Stay well in these strange and unpredictable times. :-) Sean.
