The thing that I love about George is that...it is all about controlling emotion....I guess almost like Freddie King on downers, but in control. Although, Freddie King was in complete control, but George Benson to me anyway captures Freddie King in a sentimental way.
Sings both Jazz and R&B hit songs. Writes both Jazz and R&B hit songs. Plays guitar like a virtuoso on both Jazz and R&B hits songs. Who else has the talent to do all that? George is one of a kind.
..- Not many; though a good jazz player should be able to do everything.. That said, I played 2-hour weekly senior dances for 6 years in a small combo, 'Highway 97', where the 80-something 'piano-ist' swang hard, but could not play a straight beat. She pounded the heck out of an acoustic spinet, & swung everything, as she had done her whole life! Fun daytime gig!
How is that NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT THE BASSIST?! That tambourine you hear halfway in, is him swiveling it with his foot, while holding that baseline down and not missing a step.
You ain't never lied. Grinning the whole time like it was nothing. Those people back then be killing me with stuff like that. They rarely make them like that anymore. 🤯💥💥💥
This is the 70's...and when my gf and I first fell in love in the summer of 1976. We went to see George at the Greek Theater in LA. Boz Scaggs too. "We were always sweethearts".
Just saw Mr. Benson at the Rolls Royce dealership in Scottsdale , Arizona. He was there to test drive a RR and was so friendly and upbeat. I’ve been a fan of his music for many years and it was great to see him out and about.
