    Great video Chase...really great how to use ideas by combining arpeggios over chords.

    The third example really demonstrates some of the influence Hank Garland had on Benson (IMO)

    Great video as always. I was not aware of the concept of substituting II-V's at intervals of a minor third, as if they were diminished chords. That's going to give me a lot to think about.

      Thanks Adam! Check out this video to learn more about the ii-V's that are minor thirds apart 👍 ruclips.net/video/QPte6CDjre8/видео.html

    Great video. George is such a great guitarist that you could do many more videos just focused on his wonderful playing, going right back to his earliest recordings. His whole style comes right out of Charlie Christian and Wes Montgomery. The other part of his playing is based on his other great talent as a singer. He really vocalizes his lines.

    Awesome choices of his material. Quick story, I got to meet George early 90s backstage after his show and I bring a cd ( a 70s NJ live club gig w Oleo) for him to sign. He says, I can’t sign this! I said, why not? He says, it’s a bootleg. I didn’t get a dime from those recordings! Oh well, still loved talking w him.

      Yeah. It’s a strange recording, the band is extremely aggressive, almost hostile tempos and playing, especially piano, like they were trying to chop Bensons head off. Then they rip him off on the Royalties? If you have any info on this let me know. It was called “The Masquarade is Over”.

    This is a good lesson incorporating double enclosures, combining arpeggios using the Lydian dominant #11. Thanks for sharing! Waiting for a link to the PDF.

    I'm having an epiphanerie! The reason Gmaj7 works all the way through G7 might be that this maj 7th F# is also a semitone slide up into the tonic so our ears don't mind as long as you land on any note but that F#... Makes so much sense and opens many doors 🚪 🙌 👌 👏

    It’s hard to find a lick where George Benson uses his pinky. I never see it. Same with Wes Montgomery on single lines.

    3:40 ...'then instead of going to D7 he goes to Cmaj7#5...' Ok. But why does he go to one chord rather than the other? Can you explain that please?

    • @ChaseMaddox
      @ChaseMaddox  Год назад

      Both arpeggios work over D7 because they hit the chord tones and good extensions. As to why he played one of those over the other, you'd have to ask Benson 😄
