    Great lesson...mercifully free of the 'I'm a jazz guitarist so I'll make it as boring and baffling as possible' school of instruction. Well done my friend!

    Superb lesson. Grant was incredibly good and it's worth remembering he was originally a pure Rhythm and Blues musician rather than jazz. It appears he got into bebop around the Blue Note period but he started on a Stratocaster with The Holy Barbarians ...mostly playing finger popping 12 bar stuff, not many Broadway melodies. So his initial background was very similar to George Benson.

    Great lesson! I'll have to spend some time with this (and check out Green Street!). Related question: in some jazz blues progressions, after the IV chord, when it goes back to the I chord, the chords then descend chromatically to the VI chord (i.e., Bb, A, Ab, G), and I never know what the heck to play over those descending chords! Can you maybe do a short video with some suggestions for that situation?

    • @JackRuch
      @JackRuch  10 месяцев назад

      There’s a lot of variations to that section of the chord progressions. I often play the one as a major 7 chord there. Or thrown in a quick 3 minor leading to the 6 chord.

    Jack....I have to ask only because like all musicians I LOVE gear. We can never have enough. My question is the UA attenuator. It's a pricy piece of gear at $1200 so love to know your thoughts on gear. I do realize it allows you to get better tones when playing at home. Just trying to justify such a heavy price tag. Do you mic up your guitar cabs at home when recording? Just trying to understand why so many musicians love this piece of gear. And great channel. Thanks🙏

    I have to ask you a suggestion, if I may: I would like to transform Slabo day, by Peter Green, into a jazzy progression. It;s Am, F, G Am. How would you do that, in a way that the original solo still fit ? Thank you very much!

    Can you also play the B major scale most of the way through the I vi ii v …?

    • @Scratch_Monsters_Golf
      @Scratch_Monsters_Golf 10 месяцев назад +2

      If all the chords in a progression are diatonic (all being to the same key), then you can always play through a 1-6-2-5 in the major key of the tonic. In B (as opposed to Bb in the video), 1-6-2-5 would be B-G#m-C#-F#. The notes making up each of those chords are in the B Major Scale. However, not all four chords have the SAME notes, so even though you can play over the progression with the B Major Scale, you want to do your best to focus on the notes in the current chord as they pass. In other words, you can play B Major over all of it, but it will sound best if you know the notes that make up each chord, and then do your best to highlight those notes of B Major Scale as that particular chord is being played.

    Hi Jack question, when the chords are going by fast ,to keep track of the lines are you focusing on the first note of the arpeggio to know what chord you are on?

    • @Jay-lr3me
      @Jay-lr3me 10 месяцев назад +2

      I'm not a jazz player but I remember asking a jazzer a question like this and he said he usually targets 3rds if they're going by quickly, and if there's a lot of chords at a quick tempo, it's okay to let a chord go by (not outlining every single chord)
