Old cameras and Classic Cars - you had me hooked straight away Jim, I was even prepared to forgive you for the escargot joke😄 I noticed you suffered 'the curse of the camping chair' in one image - it was always my pet hate when photographing cars at a car show (that and folk jumping into your shot with a mobile phone). Good luck with the transition to mobile life (and the new channel), it sounds like an epic adventure.
Never heard of either the camera or the film, but in your hands, at an antique car show, it was pure magic! Really liked the retro feel that it brought to those already retro cars,. especially the MG...my dad used to have one when I was little. Great video Jim, as always!
Thanks, Paul. I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed the Rollei 35. That Classic EZ400 really does have a retro look with all that highlight bloom. An old MG! How cool is that! Thanks so much. Take care!
Brilliant video! Great shots! Last week went to a local car show, so much fun look at classic cars and of course taking photos! Looking forward to your new channel and new chapter in your life! Godspeed!
Congratulations on your life style change! May you enjoy Americana like Walker Evans did! Now the question part: where can I find a working exposure meter for my Rollei 35S or have mine refurbished?
In the early 1980s, one of my sisters had this Rollei. The build quality is excellent and the lens is remarkable. Personally, I never really understood the point of a 40mm lens. It has neither the aesthetic character of the 35mm, nor the 50mm, nor even the 45mm which was often considered as a standard lens in the past (I used a lot the Minolta Hi-Matic 7S of my father who bought it in 1971, and whose lens was an excellent 45mm f/1.8). That's why I bought the Minox 35 GT whose 35mm f/2.8 was a gem (the reds in Kodachrome 64 were extraordinary, as was the sharpness). Thank you for this very interesting video!
40mm is a rare focal length for sure. I agree a 35mm would be more versatile. I Ave been truly impressed with the build quality of this little camera. It will likely go on the road with us. I’ll probably develop a few rolls of B&W in the Airstream’s galley.
Hey James!! Excellent video!! Rollei 35 are unique cameras. I used several of them Rollei 35B, Rollei 35 (with S-Xenar Schneider Kreuznach) and now I have the 35S which is a super sharp lens. The zone focusing system is the best method to do street photography is fast and very accurate. When I want to do a specific photo that needs precise focusing I use an external range finder. Walk around the city with this camera is delightful.
Thank you! I’m really enjoying this little camera. It basically fell into my lap. It belonged to our pastor who (when she was a hippie) took photos with it all over Europe. It wears that dent with pride! I love zone focus. My main issues with modern lenses is no markings on the focus dial and often no aperture ring!
This pairing of film + camera is so fitting , just acquired my first rollei 35 for $100 and shot a roll with it , excited to see how it comes out I am dying to get this film and do a 50’s/60’s shoot with it
Like a hand in glove. I have one more roll, I think I’ll use the Rollei again rather than my Olympus. There’s lots of highlight bloom with this film. I love it. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Great video, good to see those classic cars. Shooting Black and White film reminds me of when I started photography. I can almost smell the fixer now. Good explanation of the film speed. You'll have to do a video on transparency film 🎞 🙂
Perfect combo of camera, film and subject. Bonus points for the snail Dad joke.
Thanks Dave! 🐌
Very cool camera and film! Loved this video! Great photos of some really cool cars! :)
Thanks so much. The Rollei is a joy to shoot with.

Very FUN vlog! Loved the music, the photos & the editing!
Thanks! 😘
I love that film, and when Ribsy said he was discontinuing it I bought five more rolls. But now that I know it's Foma 400, I feel a little better.
I have one roll left, but Fomapan is readily available. Thanks for watching!

Thanks so much. The Mustang in the video belongs to my brother in law. He won 🥇 1st place in the Mustang division.

Thanks so much! I wish I could help you on that light meter part. I've been using Sunny 16 or a light meter app on my phone.

Thanks, Andrew. I’m really having fun shooting and processing B&W film again. Transparency film…🤔
hello from Peru, What is the parameter? setting to use Rollei35 camera with the film Infrared ISO400 ...shutter. focus distance. etc etc.
It really look like foma and i dont like foma that much. But i like your photo :)
Thanks for watching!
Nice video, but 3 shoots are waste of film. I just make one shoot and I’m getting 39 to 40 exposures per roll.
