Great little camera with an interesting story. I've been working on this since September and have recorded this video numerous times.

The shutter speed dial on the B35 can be very stiff to turn if gripped with the finger and thumb. The plastic ring seems to crush so I’ve found that turning the camera to face you and using both thumbs one each side of the dial is much easier.
I’ve also found the wind on spool becomes very stiff to turn and the film can have its sprockets torn when rewinding. I found helpful notes online about very careful lubrication. Hope these points are helpful but I agree, best buy the real thing.

I enjoyed your video very much.
Back around 1992 I stumbled on to a Rolli 35 S, black in color and it was filthy in spite of being in its original little zip leather bag.
I was in a thrift shop in Washington Depot, Ct. I asked the dear lady what she wanted for the camera. "Oh, that old thing; I don't even know if it works, how about $5? I didn't know if it worked either but I was willing to clean it and give it a try for a fiver. Well, it's just a humman' along to this day!
    Praise be!

You can't beat a $5 deal - especially when it works!

I would say that optical performance is going to be very similar to the Tessar version, which is to say that it's an excellent all-purpose lens.

I have many Rollei TLR cameras, but for classic 35mm I perfer the Kodak Retina (folding) series. I don't know why the Rollei 35 never appealed to me. They are fine little machines.

Nice overview of this camera. FYI, "Rollei" is pronounced like "roll-eye," not "rolly." Think of it like rolling your eyes, which is probably what you're doing at this pedantic comment. 🙂

No offense taken. I've heard many pronunciations of this word, and I guess "roll-lee" stuck.
I had an Australian friend who pronounced it "rawl-lee" - as in Raleigh, N.C.

The "R" in "Rollei" can be pronounced differently in German depending on the dialect, using the back or tip of the tongue. 🙂
And the lens name "Xenar" is pronounced "kseh-nar" or "zeh-nar", but sometimes with a longer "a"-sound, so "kseh-nár".
The letter "e" in "Xenar" and "Tessar" is pronounced the same, more like an "eh" sound than "ee". If it was "Xeenar", the Germans would have spelled it "Xinar". English speakers just have different traditions on how to pronounce vowels.
For me as a Swede I pronounce "Tessar" as "Tessár", and we say "Roll-eye", "Rollee", "Rolly" depending on the person, because we don't have the German "ei" sound in Swedish. Most English speakers don't pronounce "Hasselblad" correctly, but we understand what they mean. 😄
