Learn about photography in my reviews of classic cameras, some digital, as well as books, important photographers and related matter. I have owned more than 300 cameras in my life, and I hope to tell you about some of them - from simple box cameras to folders to SLRs and many other cameras in between. I also own several digital cameras. In the process, we'll have some fun, and I'll tell you some stories about my cameras.

Minolta SR-T 202: Raising the Profile of an Underappreciated SLR - Camera Talk

The Minolta SR-T 202 was among the last of the camera maker's full-size SLRs that were typical of the era before downsizing took effect. Pentax 17: My Favorite 'Mod" So Far - Camera Talk
I just saw this video in my feed yesterday. Very informative video. My favorite auto focus camera is the EOSa2. I am on my 4th one. I used to help promote a monthly camera show in my area. I was given film and film cameras as payment. One of the vendors had a 5$ table and one time he had a $2.50 table . So I bought a canon Eos 650 and 630 bodies and Nikon N 90, 90s, 2002 bodies. They all worked. Plus thrift store finds.
YES they were great cameras back in 1977. I own two of them. But this is 2025, there have been considerable changes in cameras. I shoot everyday and even print some photos. I now use the Nikon Z system cameras and lenses. As much as I like the old FM's, I will only shoot one or two rolls a year. How many of you are willing to trade your current autos for a horse and carriage?
Show us a photo from it!
All the old GDR mirrors were silver coated, that silver oxidizes away you can get new mirrors here in Germany for that camera
Licence built COMPUR shutter in GDR was called VEBUR that means it was made by VEB the (Volkseigene Betriebe) = Pentacon company
Please compare with AGFA KARAT 36 and Polish made WZFO (PZO) Fenix II rangefinders
Please Review Welta Belmira with Zeiss Tessar 2.8 50
I reviewed this camera earlier. It's a very interesting camera! ruclips.net/video/NHgr1vGis5M/видео.html
@@CameraTalkVideos great I will look in it!
I just finished my first role of film on my praktica but I’m not sure how to reverse my film?
Push the button on the bottom of the camera. Then unfold the rewind crank and rotate it in a clockwise direction (to the right). Continue until you feel the film release from the takeup spool and go back into the film cannister.
This is very helpful. Thanks !
You're very welcome!
Thank you very much. I will try.
Hey man, my name is Johnny and I'm a freelance logo designer, would you love to have me to redesign your logo to make ut has talk element in it to nake it more memorable and you can use it as merch print art for your channel for your fans to buy them to support your hardworks and it will drive loyalty and act as wearables business cards for you too? Let me know if you are interested! :-)
I could not understand clearly what you were applying on the silver strip. Could you please go over it ? Thank you.
I'm using a metallic marker. You can get them at most arts and craft stores. Draw a line over the existing silver strip and let the marker dry (30 minutes or more).
The MTL 5 requires a 1.35 V (1.4 V) cell for the light meter to work properly (there are adapters available), the later MTL 5 B used modern 1.5 V cells. While these cameras are completely fine functionality wise, they had (and have) quality issues and are often broken (film advance is one area of problems). Shutter shake is a bit hefty compared to other cameras. A slight correction: Top and bottom of the MTL series is plastics (but rather well-made).
Mine is working properly . I‘d like to mention that the camera , which is made of a plastic called composite has no light seals at all. These were simply Not necessary. I think this is Kind of an advantage thinking of all the old cameras with light leaks.
One of the things that I love about cameras that aren't full-featured is that it forces you to work a little bit more in order to get a good photo. Did you try measuring the shutter speed at different ISO settings? I've been keen to get one of these myself, since it's a 1/2 frame camera that's the same size as my Minox 35.
Very interesting
Around 2019, I bought this little Soviet-era camera, but it was missing the rewind knob. Fast forward to 2024, when I bought another. It was in transit for such a long time that I forgot about it.
Just ordered one of this camera. Thanks for sharing.
Only the Retina II with the Superlative Ektar 2-47 is a great camera!
Did you calibrate the rangefinder, 2 screws under leatherette.
I've been using Pentax Spotmatic II and F cameras for many years (I'm an old guy) and love them. Reliable, simple and nice to use. About 20 years ago I saw a Praktica MTL 5 for sale for next to nothing with a very nice Zeiss Pancolor 50mm lens, so I got it just for the lens. I began to use the Praktica in dirty dusty or wet locations rather than my Spotmatics. All these years later and after much tough use, the Praktica has been absolutely reliable. Although it doesn't feel as good in the hands or convey that feeling of quality like the Spotmatics, it's an excellent camera. Brighter viewfinder than the Spotmatics, very accurate and consistent meter, has never needed light seals replaced and has a vertical run metal blade shutter. Great cheap camera.
In NOO way, but thanx for you interes, though. This is my collection item. I' ve bought it 1998 brand new in Salt Lake City. The year after, the Rolley Company declared bankropsy as far as I remember. Today it looks the same as when it was bought. I had only couple of slide Fuji Velvia E6 rolls shooting with it. That stays in my collection forever.
I have one and that is a machine to last! Makes pictures as good as a Zeiss or Leica! Very good lenses!
Spotmatics are my favorite cameras of all time. The only two things I wish they had were a split image focusing screen, and a more modern silicon blue meter.
I love the EL2! Beautifully made, sturdy, and when working, a joy to use!
Good ideas but badly executed. All the taking it on and off will affect the adhesive sticking properly just by handling it and will no stay on long. Just measure it right first time.
I think the D600 leaked oil on the sensor.
I got this camera from TikTok shop and I actually like it! However I played around with settings for best results and quality; but you’d have to know at least a little bit about lighting and editing to KNOW what you’re looking for. I did receive the second battery pack And a charger slot for the battery too, I don’t know if TikTok gets it from the same supplier, but they’re both the Exact same
Synch with flash bulbs is 1/30th, marked on the speed dial.
Great camera, which happen to own and I still have it in my collection. I bought it few decades ago as new.
Interested in selling it ?
Western Zones - there where three, controlled by USA, Great Britain and France
A good review....Through the 1970s I was shooting film for television , which required processing and editing ...The still photography was all 35mm transparencies and 4x5 for rear screen work...I paired my Nikkormat FTN with this lens as soon as it was produced , and it truly became a workhorse combination....A very well built robust bit of kit that saved me from constantly changing lenses....They, the FTN and the 35-85 are sitting 3 feet from me as I write this ...At $700.00cdn the lens was over 4 times what the used Nikkormat cost me , and worth every cent...Some 72mm filters (polar screen , etc.) also set me back a few bucks ..Oh yes, I have an acquired appreciation for very wide camera straps, lol.........John (west coast,Canada).
I have two Prakticas, a 1973 model (mtl3?) which was my mother's from new before coming to me and has a CZJ 50/2.8 Tessar lens that is very sharp, and a later model (ltl?) with only 1/500 top speed and no da. They both have the same fault, they won't work with my locking cable releases (although they're fine with the non-locking ones). The wind-on is rougher on the later one. Good heavy clunkers although I prefer my Cosina Hi-Lite which is just a bit smoother.
It looks exactly like the srt 101.
Very informative video of this Really nice and unusual looking camera just seen one recently in need of restoration the square frame is also unusable... Ive looked at a few robot cameras and I have more rangefinders and few half frame cameras like the cannon demi which im yet to use I Will be taking one on my next holiday next year...
You cannot calculate in metric sistem? It is more precise.
I purchased my SRT-102 in the early 70's with the 58mm f1.2 lens. I'm noticing that the SRT-202 does not have a mirror lock-up lever with is located just above the DOF preview button. Also my SRT-102 does not have the little film verification window on the back. Very detailed video , thank you
That was a great time for buying cameras, don't you think? How did you like shooting with the f/1.2 lens?
@@CameraTalkVideos It is heavy and at f1.2 tough to nail focus but it is great for blowing out the background. I did borrow a buddy's 50mm f1.7 lens and found it to be a bit sharper. After 50+ years my SRT-102 is still working great and it still has same mercury battery that was replaced in the early 80's and tested as good.
The 303 is the same as the 102. The 202 is the same as the 303b. Camera-wiki has a nicely detailed list of every SRT model that I found when researching to buy mine.
That wiki table is a somewhat confusing mess. :)
I bought one of these for $20 at a garage sale and it came with this amazing 50mm f1.2. It needed new light seals and a cleaning. It’s not perfect but I love it.
Good score, especially on the lens. Those lenses (I'm guessing its branded "Rikenon" but it could be "Ricoh" as well) are a pretty impressive. If it was me, I wouldn't be putting too much into the body beyond a simple seal replacement, but if you had access to another K-mount camera of around the period (maybe a Pentax or even a Chinon) you'll be very pleased with your results.
I think I have this exact model. I got it from Facebook marketplace tonight. Could you help me identify it?
Congratulations on buying an older Rolleiflex. Visit the Rolleiclub website. Using the serial number on the body just below the "Rolleiflex" name, you can find which model you own. www.rolleiclub.com/rolleiflex-serial-numbers/ Then look at the serial number of the lens, which will help you determine the approximate year that the camera was made. Visit this Camera Wiki page: camera-wiki.org/wiki/Carl_Zeiss_serial_numbers

Nice introduction to this camera. I live near the factory where the camera was once produced (Dresden). The factory/corporate headquarters was mainly destroyed during the bomb raids in WW II (although the area is rather outside of the city center and not too many buildings were hit in the neighborhood) but one wing (today "Penta Park") survived after major parts of the rebuilt production area were demolished in 1995. In this building the Contax was produced, not sure about the Tenax though.
I was stationed in West Germany for two years but never made it to Dresden. We probably wouldn't have been permitted to travel to East Germany at that time.
I have one of these. Do you know what kind of adapter would be needed for a Canon M50? Yosemite's half dome is visible in the far distance from my front deck and I would like to try capturing it.
I believe that you will need a T mount to EOS-M adapter. Here is one on eBay: www.ebay.com/itm/383744024887?_skw=t+mount+to+canon+m50 I would love to have that in sight from anywhere. Best of luck!
Hi All, actually all Praticas do have voltage compensation and can be powerd with 1.5V batteries maintaining correct metering. Models made for the PX 625 Mallory (Mercury) cells simply take an LR44. The only thing is, that you should have a rubber washer around, since the LR44 ist thinner than the PX 625 so it gets hold in the battery compartment. Enyoy yor PRAKTICA! Its a very reliable and precision made workhorse.... highly underestimated and very affordable these days. Yours Klaus Rickert
The parallax correcting eyepiece wasn't on every camera. I have one with a plain finder. Your "35" is the middle model. There was one with an f/5.6 lens, yours with an f/4.5 and one with an f/3.5 like the range finder model. The f/3.5 lens was a 4 element lens.
If you're struggling to find a K range camera in good condition, perhaps have a look at a P3/P30 which you can use is a fully manual camera but offers automatic exposure and DX film speed setting if you want it. They have DOF preview and also use modern batteries, so for someone looking to get into manual focus photography on a budget, maybe check out the P30 range.
In this, the channel's 100th video, it's time to look at the humble Pentax K1000, which remained in production for 21 years. There is brilliance in its simplicity. It's all manual. Its single battery only powers the meter. It's also a full-size camera that arrived as the rest of the industry was downsizing its consumer models.
About equal parts uninformed guessing and silly surmise. Mispronunciations rife. What a waste.
Great camera, one of the original Spotmatic replacements and much better than the K1000. Looking at my Pentax/Honeywell ES II the blanking disc on the KM top plate is where the battery check button is on the ES.
Just a real quick video. The cameras in this series are made very solidly with three of the four using a cloth focal plane shutter and a large viewfinder and simple controls with all using a full-size body.
