This man is one of the bravest people in the world. Putting his deepest thoughts into song and then reliving them everyday on stage for a living.. so much respect.
IMO you can tell by observing the vocalist and the way he sings that the lyrics aren't fake. It's like he's almost telling a story. He sings with a lot of emotion, and expresses it well through hand gestures and body language. Very cool clip!
Natalie sang torn so "emotional" that everybody thought that she wrote it - of course she didnt. Do put so much faith in what you think when there are not facts.
To me this song and the way he preforms it right here is my truest definition of what "Art" really is. To me art is some medium that elicits an emotional response. That can be a photo, a painted portrait or scene, a poem or passage from a poem, lines from a song, the sounds from within that song like a guitar solo or even drum solo or in this case the song, the performance, the passion and the depth of his feelings, struggles and demons shown by the way he preforms it. You feel every note every spoken word. Justin is a true artists and I can't express enough how all his music to date affects me feel (both sad and happy). Kudos brother, you are definitely one of a kind.
It reminds me of when I use to hate myself, completely. It reminds me of the turmoil I used to feel every single day. It reminds me of the regrets I felt daily of all the bad choices I've made; so many bad choices. Though I don't feel that way any more, for the most part, I know it just lays there, around the corner, waiting for me to get weak. Ever since I paid attention to the words I cannot listen to it without crying. No matter where I am. Oh my God, so much pain. But, I am savedby JC
Every version or performance of Hate Me is amazing. Justin's voice is amazing, the music is like no other and his lyrics speak to, almost, everyone. I'm almost an old lady and was dumbfounded when friends didn't find Blue October to be amazing: then or now. I'm on a quest to hear every version of every song before purchasing a collection Hopefully, I will able to find a wheelchair and someone willing to push it down the stairs with me in it so I can get a good seat if we are ever blessed to have him perform in our area.
Nicely said bethie from a man whose almost older , when one sees beauty so obvious ,and we try share to those around us , and they are blind and deaf ,can be saddening
Bethie Boop I’ll push your wheelchair!!! I’ve been to every Blue October show in the Carolinas for the last 10 years. Every single one is astonishing in its own way. I’m extraordinarily grateful that my children have grown up experiencing the emotion of their music. For their 13th birthday they have received the gift of a live Blue October concert. When we’re pissed at each other and can’t articulate our feelings, we send Blue October songs & lyrics to each other. When we’re happy, we have Blue October dance parties. It becomes a secret language, a dynamic with a life of its own.
This isn't a song. This is a statement. An apology to those he hurt. A reminder that he is human. And acceptance of what needs to happen for the other person to be whole. This song hurts me so much because sometimes we keep people we love from living their best life. The fact that he loved the person enough to let, or rather force, them to separate from him before he drug them under the same waves that were drowning him. Thats strength man. Strength beyond strength.
I just saw a guy saying Justin can't sing unless he's in a studio. Well, this is as good as the "original" or even better, once he does not have much opportunity to express himself while singing on the clip, but does it on this amazing live version. I'm pround of listening of Blue October because they are truly talented and make real good and deep music. Hate Me is just one of their masterpieces
I've seen them live every single time they've come to my state's capital and I can vouch for the fact that he sounds just as good if not better indoors AND outdoors. I'm actually seeing them this weekend as well and CANNOT wait!
Look up the live 10th Anniversary version of this song. It’s amazing. I’ve been listening to it a lot lately and I cry every time. His words are hitting me incredibly hard right now, reminding me of all the amends I need to be making right now after making it through my first year of sobriety.
@@shellywhite9965 I was just about to mention that one. He completely owns this song in that performance. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/Y3F3AcnGFWw/видео.html
I've never been as touched by a song as I was this one. I couldn't hear it for a while because it was excruciating how it triggered my own feelings. it's beautiful
I've heard many versions of this song and I think this one is definitely the best of them. I find myself watching this video repeatedly because you can really see the emotions he's feeling in this video. You can see contempt, sadness, regret and love in his face and hear it in his voice. This is, without a doubt, my favorite song by Blue October.
I am 50 years old and I just started listening to you're Music. The first song I fell in love with was Into The Ocean and I have been hooked since then. I love you're Music each one I have heard so far means something to me. You're music is still new to me having started so late in my life but that's OK at least I am listening to it now!
Once I realized this song was for his mother, it brought a whole new meaning. And also, to the people teasing his "twitching" I just saw him live last night, and it was the best performance I've ever seen. Trust me, it's a lot more interesting to watch a performer who has that much passion for his music, rather then someone who just stands there. And besides, look at his album title, "Approaching Normal" he doesn't exactly want to do what everyone else does.
I officially respect Blue October for their Lyrics. They are just brilliantly written! I wish they were more popular. It's amazing. Also Into The Ocean. Nicely written!
the spasm's are his bodies reaction to the emotions that the song invokes. all of the songs Justin writes are derived from personal experience and struggles with depression, anxiety & schizophrenia. as a singer/songwriter the words are intertwined with your emotion and locked on to a place in your life. singing the song is close to reliving the experience. it's a beautiful thing to see and feel.
I discovered Blue October in Iraq in 2007. This was one song I listened to every night as I walked back to my hootch. It it me at home and I listened to it over and over again. The message, the anger, the fight, the peace....all came to me each and every night. Thank you Blue October for the song that made me feel like I was not alone!!
Man, This song is So Great, The 1st I heard it, I fell in love with it, The voice is really good. Its hard to come up with those tones in an acoustic environment, He nailed it, when the Violin came in, it gave me chills, SO beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love almost every song this guy sings. I even got the same tattoo he has on his neck. I got mad respect for him and will never stop being Blue October's #1 Fan!!
I agree. I would like to thank Justin also. When I heard this song I wept for a long time over and over because it made me finally understand what was going on in my life. I thank him for helping me understand my loved one with bipolar disorder. The trouble is.... I can't hate her.
Everytime he screams.. it's so powerful. It means so much because.. in a way, it's a metaphor. It'a not a scream, it's a cry. It's a cry for any help that he can get. And he screams as loud as he can, but it's so quiet. It's hardly audible. It's quiet, and there are things louder than him.. so the louder gets paid attention to, leaving him to suffer. I think all of us can relate to that. Everytime, I get shivers.
WOW!!! I'm 65 yrs.old and can say that this is the best video I've ever seen. The passion he shows during the performance is very real. The "twitching" thing is what it is, who cares? Fantastick vocals. My son turned me on to this group. They are great.
My Mother is still with me. This song has helped me open my eyes to a lot of things. It has allowed me to glance into the future, after she has left me. I am a stronger man now. This song will be timeless as long as someone is playing it. It has a purpose, a god given one.
This is one of my all time fave songs...LOVE, LOVE, LOVE a BAND that can perform well live. THIS was awesome! LOVE Justin's voice...there's so much passion, pain and conviction.
These guys have got me through some fucked up times in my life. There been points at wich the only thread of hope I had to hold on to was knowing that someone else was going, or has gone, through the same shit that I was, am, going through. The fact that he was able to take the things he has gone through, the wrongs that were done to him, and turn them into inspiration to help others who are in the same situations get through the dark, is so fuckin' admirable. Justin Furstenfeld and all
@BlueOctoberFan456 i agree, you have no idea how much, blue october is without a doubt a band that put a lot of thoughtin their work, and deserve ALOT more fame for it
Hands down probably the most eye opening song i ever heard. this songs got me through some crazy fucking shit but in the end everything comes out allright
I love Blue October! Right from the heart; they sing with such emotion and say what others feel they can't because of how society may take it! Hey if you feel it who cares what others think Get lost in the music!
He's wonderful! The whole band is. I had the privilege to hear these guys in person and it was one of the best nights and most memorable nights of my life. He has passion and love.
I've listened to Blue October since this came out but as the mother of a boy who did a thing that broke my heart 3 1/2 years ago, I am starting to heal. Thank you.
I saw them in concert back in August, and they did a great show. It could have made a believer out of anyone. Love the emotion, these guys have gotten me through a lot of stuff.
This is so beautiful. Such passion! The ticks made me feel such comfort made this performance so much more meaningful. Thank you for sharing yourself to us 💜. Absolutely beautiful.
its good to see a band that can sing live and still sound great and just like their recorded versions. Don't see that very often anymore....its sad....:(
this song always makes me shed tears, right at the moment he sings "and she whispered how could you do this to me". Something similar was said to me at one point and this song reminds me of it...i both love and hate it
It's the year 2020.
He is an even more incredible vocalist/song writer/man.
A silver lining in this shit year.
End of August 2024 and it's just as good as it was back then.....
i agree but the live in Texas one is fkn AMAZING
This man is one of the bravest people in the world. Putting his deepest thoughts into song and then reliving them everyday on stage for a living.. so much respect.
he is singing so emotionally........damn I love this song!!!
In every single performance. Hm i think it is a show
You can hear his voice breaking aswell
A gem. A masterpiece. The epitome of how much music can mean. Possibly the greatest song ever.
next to Radioheads Creep.
Yes
Alice in chains, nutchell.
love ❣️ songs make feel better 🙌💯❣️
This is the dumbest comment I have read this year
IMO you can tell by observing the vocalist and the way he sings that the lyrics aren't fake. It's like he's almost telling a story. He sings with a lot of emotion, and expresses it well through hand gestures and body language. Very cool clip!
And that is why Justin Furstenfeld is such an incredible musician. Awesome writer too!
Adam L it's because this isn't a pop band
Natalie sang torn so "emotional" that everybody thought that she wrote it - of course she didnt. Do put so much faith in what you think when there are not facts.
Actually, it's about his mother. It's a fact. lol

to me.. this song is about asking for forgiveness. To you mother, to those love ones you've failed big time. :(
Mother...
Father ! Much love from England
PLEASE go on tour in 2022 to the pacific northwest. I have not been graced with Blue October's presence in too many years. Tour live again!
Hello dad, cheers to a song we used to listen to .. RIP
Sorry for your loss, my condolences. May your Dad rest easy.. 🙏
Me and my kids listen to this all the time rip to your father and God bless your ❤️
I still luv this song no matter how many times I hear it. It really strikes a cord with me and brings a tear to my eye.

He's obviously never seen them live.
Look up the live 10 anniversary version of this song, IT'S FUCKING PHENOMENAL 💯🖤🖤🖤
I love how you can see how much he means and feels every single word he sings.
I love it when the singers show passion when they sing songs live. It shows how much their songs actually mean to them.
I love the emotion he puts into this song
I love the pain in his voice. So beautiful. Can't stop listening to this.
Nine years later and I’m still in the same boat! So damn Beautiful!
Agreed, that is what makes REAL music, the kind you feel, and hear! I never get tired of listening to Blue October, they are even better live!
They are absolutely AAAMMAAZZZIINNGGG live 🖤🖤 🖤... This song is soooooo deep 🖤
I agree with you. This song is so great it puts chills up my spine, but in a good way! They rock!🤟🤟🤟

I always assumed it was his mother. it always hurt so much to listen because it brought up so much guilt about my own relationship with my mother
Justin has an amazing voice
haha i thought i would get away from crying, but noooooo......he had to have this violin guy come out with this bad ass solo =P
Goosebumps.
Man. THIS is what music is. Each song is like a powerful spell. Amazing
I'm a die hard Metal head and this shit is touching. Point blank.

The emotion in his face makes me want to cry....wow...you can tell he wants to cry so bad.
Listened to this all summer long on the job site in rural Alaska ! Thank you blue
And then she whispered " How could you do this too me ?" That part always makes me cry :(
Me too I fell so sory so many regrets
My absolute favorite version of this song
I'd like to thank Justin for the lyrics he wrote. Helped me battling with bipolar disorder knowing I'm not alone and identifying myself to the songs.
I can't BELIEVE I found this!!
My #1 Favorite Song By This Band !! This Is the Best Version !
This is an awesome song.... A song to his mother.... things he needed to say while she was alive but never was able to....
