      +Melendy 69 Simpson from what I know he'd just gone through a break-up and was feeling down, then he got that message from his mom that they play at the beginning of the song. So I guess this song is sort of him wishing that he could stop being a nuisance to those around him and dealing with depression. Just my guess though.

      It’s about an ex. One who tried to get him thru his shit but still loved him. He’s essentially begging her to hate him so she can move on. The video just depicts his mother being the one helping. His mom was alive. Still may be.

      @@PollyGammy Thanks for clarifying that. I thought his mother is the one who got him through his addiction. Well I guess she kind of had a hand in it. I relate so well to this song because my ex is an alcoholic and I got him through a home detox and he made it 25 days sober before he relapsed. I know it doesn't sound like a lot of time but it was for him. I was so proud of them. I know we can do it again. We have a son together and obviously we are no longer together but I do still care about him as a person. I hope that he gets the help he needs one day and that he can finally stop with the self-loathing and taking it out on those around him. I know that he loves hard but he is an asshole sometimes. Even his own family admits this. Like I said, I just hope he gets the help he needs so he can be at peace.

    This baby boomer generation upsets me. I pay for their retirement, which I will never get, and they were raised with parents living high on the hog. My generation will not get social security and only the lucky will get something passed down to them.

    Why was he on crutches?

    • @cloudygirl66
      @cloudygirl66 8 лет назад +19

      +didoma73 He broke his leg. Hate Me had been topping the charts in one city in particular outside of Texas: Tampa, Florida. 97x, Tampa’s radio station had fallen in love with Blue October and heavily promoted a headlining show for Blue October before 10,000 fans at Bright House Networks Park on April 29. By all accounts the show was spectacular, however after the concert, while running the bases in the park, Justin slipped and broke his leg. Justin wouldn’t be able to walk or play guitar, but he was determined to keep performing. Julian Mandrake, a long-time friend of the band, and the former lead guitarist from Canvas was called and invited to join Blue October as second guitarist. Julian agreed and immediately flew to Baltimore to meet the band the at their next show in Baltimore.
      With only two days of preparation, Julian learned Blue October’s songs and joined the band on stage that night. Justin, with his leg in a cast, sang while seated in a wheelchair. The pain proving too much for Justin to bear, the rest of the tour was cancelled and the band drove 1,500 miles back to Austin.
      46 days would pass before Blue October played another show. Even though the tour had been sidelined, Foiled continued to sell an average of 10,000 copies every week and Hate Me reached #2 on Billboard’s Alternative Rock chart. Matt Noveskey and his former (a+)machines bandmate Ryan Holley along with friends Jacob Trevino (of Five Dollar Friend) and Wesley Lunsford (both of which Matt has worked with in his capacity as record producer) as opening acts went on a tour of Texas in June.
      Also that June, Jeremy and Meredith tied the knot.
      On June 17 Blue October made their return to the live stage, playing at Buzz Fest in Houston. Julian was once again playing guitar with the band, and Justin, still recovering, gradually gained mobility over the next few months.
      At the end of June, Blue October returned to L.A. where they co-hosted and performed on the nationally syndicated radio program “Loveline” with Dr. Drew and Striker. The next day the band again appeared on national television, performing on the outdoor stage at the Jimmy Kimmel Show. The performance proved to be symbolic, as Justin entered the stage hobbeling, then during Hate Me, he cast his crutches aside and performed two more songs on his own two feet.

      Yep, he performed a whole tour basically on crutches. I saw them on that circuit mid day at an all day festival and it was still epic AF

      I thought that it was symbolic of him getting sober. Freeing himself from his addiction. I see that apparently he broke his leg but still, I think it's metaphorical for citing your demons and getting rid of them at least for the time being.

      @@cloudygirl66 oh my God that's amazing! Thank you for sharing that. I have mad respect for him for trying to get out there and do his job despite the pain. I understand it being too much though, people forget that celebrities are still human. Also, mad respect to their friend Julian Mandrake for learning the songs in just two days. Wow! Thanks again for sharing, what a story.

      Joshua Ballew Back then he definitely was, lots of drugs and alcohol, and he admitted he thought he was the shit. He talks now about how there were so many bridges he burned because of his attitude and actions. He’s been sober for years now and is a much better head space, still loves to perform, but it doesn’t seem to be just for himself now. He sees it as one big family.

      No he's not, you try going through an addiction and coming out the other side of it. No one understands the battles that they fight with themselves everyday. It's not called being full of yourself, it's called going through something hard and still being strong enough to come out the other side of it. You've obviously never been an addict or loved one.

    • @bigbadwolf5870

      @@babyhandgrenade4004 this is so funny I don't know where to reply. I was an addict for many years. Heroin and Cocaine. That doesn't make someone think they're better than everyone. Watch some interviews, read his articles. Why think because he's a recovering addict his personality is about that? Try again.
