- I got a "Chassis Stabilization" and "Rear axle differential lock" errors in my check control and the car went into limp mode. This video shows the entire process of diagnosing the issue using ISTA+ and how to replace the wheel speed sensor (abs speed sensor) on the car to resolve the problem.

Nice work, Aaron! Boxsters and Bimmers just seem to be a great combo, eh? Had a similar experience with the wheel speed sensor on my F30 and, WOW, those warning messages were terrifying when it happened, but was easily able to read the error codes and replace the sensor. Had to replace the other side sensor about a week later, so just FYI if you get that same issue again, they maybe come in pairs. Thanks!

The very first step to take is the simplest, espe ially if you have mods rezulting in ypu not having a floorpan. If the car has the chassis stabalization issue, coupled with hard steering, there is a sensor that can often come loose. It is located right in the middle of the front wheel shaft directly behind where the radiator sits. It has a red and blue thick wire that leads into it. Rhis clip is super brittle, and can often be ome loose, triggering every chassis warning, and directly affecting the steering. Hopefully this helps somebody. Oh and you can reattach that clip with a zip tie if needs be.
Do you know the name of the sensor? I have an X1 with these symptoms and the ABS sensor replacement didn’t work. I want to look into this before giving up.

Incredibly useful video, same prob F22, did not have ISTA but Think Diag correctly pinpointed the exact same sensor issue. Problem is compounded by multiple related fault codes all caused by this sensor!! Other codes seem un-related. BMW should have on board DX that pin points the issue instead of their stern run to dealer message!!! $58 solution, dealer would likely have seen it as blank check...

Hi I got this message said (chassis function restricted ) and the vehicle was lower to low passion , I did troubleshooting and I found the fuse is burned and I changed it and the suspensions start working and the message was gone but the after sometimes while I was driving the warning message come again and I found the fuse also damaged again what the cause of shush problem from your experience view

this video helped me a ton. i replaced it back a few months ago. now im getting just a chassis stabilization error and no limp mode or diff lock. i think my wiring harness (before the speed sensor) is damaged.. is that a difficult replacement or just a few wires to be replaced? ((if you know, thanks a lot))

I just recently had this same error come up on my f82. Took it to the dealer and they told me I need a new DSC module and quoted me $7000 for the repair. Ridiculous. Could they have diagnosed it incorrectly at the dealer and it just needs the wheel speed sensor?

I removed and replaced the wheel speed sensor as described in the video. Replacing it was pretty straight forward. After changing it with an OEM replacement my ABS light/ chassis stabilization light remains on. Is there a reset that I need to complete to make the light go out? Thanks.
+jbandmel44 I think I just replaced mine and it went away, but I’d have to go back and watch the video again to be sure. Everything I did is documented there.

Change the opposite sensor
So I had this issue for over a week after I replaced my brakes and rotors. After doing new abs sensors and brake sensors, it ended up being low brake fluid throwing all these warnings 😅
I have the same warning on my X3, it drives fine on pavement but if I am on gravel it's like the right front wheel is trying to lock up. It doesn't even want to pull the car.

I got the same error, ista indicating both rear wheel acceleration are faulty. However BMW does not sell the the rears separate to the actual shock? Are the front sensors identical?

If I had both sensors replaced and the chassis stabilization code still pops up, does that mean I just need to get a hard reset? I really don’t want to keep spending money on an unknown fix.

Did you have issues with the steering becoming harder. Have the same issue which is intermittent, but it does somerimes affect the steering. Tje adaptive headlight also comes on.

I have a 750li that has the same problem and I've spent almost $4k getting parts and suppose to be fixed. But it isn't up to the regular height like when I first got the car....what would you suggest?
+Duane Moore I would suggest using a real BMW diagnostic tool like ISTA and see what code it’s throwing
quick question. Are the sensors universal? meaning the RT and LT are the same? got the same message as well on my F83 M4.

i had p15dc and p15c8, changed rear left speed sensor and cleared, p15c8 still coming up though. What's the best way to test the housing that connects to the speed sensor? Thanks.
+KG wish I could help more, but you just saw everything I know about the wheel speed sensors.
Abs module may need to change
I had the same faults as you, for the rear left sensor. Changed that, took it for a drive, it cleared the fault... drove a bit longer and the dash lit up the same way, read the faults and now it's saying the rear right is the problem! what do you think is going on? Could the module which the speed sensors are plugged into be damaging the sensors?
+Mark Stein I guess it could be, or just a coincidence. I’d just change the other sensor too since it’s easy and see if that fixes it.
@@HelpMeDIY I might try putting a new sensor on. But I have since taken both wheels off and plugged in a current meter in series with the sensor. Both sides are reading 7mA, the sensor is meant to pulse between 7mA and 14mA when the wheel spins. Both sides would not move from 7mA when I waved a bit of metal over the sensor. As a bonus test I plugged the old sensor back in and performed the same test - all sensors are behaving in the same way. I am thinking it could be the GHAS module, which requires a tech to program it to the car (I'd like to do it myself but I don't want to buy an ICOM)

I notice this happens on my f32 440i, only when i hold launch control down for too long. Why is that? It only happens then.

I have about 7-8 malfunctions. Bmw says I need a battery, but after sitting for two weeks the battery still measures 13.2 volts. Call malfunction perdestrian malfunction chassis malfunction headlight malfunction and no electrical power steering are some of them. Lights will come on before I get out of driveway
