I guess it's all a matter of taste. There were times I wanted to strangle Brady during the 98 season but he did improve once November rolled around and in 1999, his decision and playmaking was much better. He was always slower than a snail but had a decent arm. He led all those comeback wins in 99 and would have brought us back all the way against MSU had he played the whole game.
His performance in the Orange Bowl, I would think, should help you to forget his bad start in 98.

You could excuse him losing his first start at Notre Dame in week 1, but losing to Syracuse at the Big House in week 2 was very bad even if Syracuse was ranked 19th…but he went 10-1 the rest of the season

maybe you hated him, but I remember him as a guy that went 20-5 as a starter and won back-to-back New's Year Day Bowl games, and showed the heart of a lion, especially in his final year, with all the comebacks his final year (see ND, PSU, Ohio State and Alabama).

Another great video! I remember when I was kid having heart attack the last minutes of that game. Patmon's play was huge.
Of course Michigan's defense was solid, and offense was weak. Its so hard watching a team with brady, backus, dhani jones, streets, anthony thomas and (i believe hutchinson as well) and just not blowing out teams

Definitely a reminder of why we hated Brady so much when he was here, no mobility whatsoever. Here and in the Syracuse loss that year especially.

Did you see that bomb he threw to Tai Streets in the 1st Quarter?!

I go to U-M, i'm just talking about how I and many U-M fans at the time felt at the time. Personally when I heard about the idea of having a mobile QB for Michigan this season, I was jumping for joy because i really couldn't stand the immobility and the amount of sacks taken by Michigan's quarterbacks under Carr in spite of the offensive line.

And if Michigan doesn't muff a punt giving the Gophers a gift touchdown, they only score 3 points all day.

That night I had a Halloween party that featured 4 horror movies...none scared me half as much as that game did in the afternoon.

Tom Brady wouldn’t play another game in Minnesota for his entire football career after this until 2006.

Not to mention that he is (sadly) the ONLY Michigan QB to win a BCS bowl.

Minnesota wins this game if their defensive backs aren't epically bad

The offensive line for this team was attrocious up until that freakish Wisky game. It was really disappointing since we had four returning starters on that unit plus the tight end.

this was our 'waterboy' defense and ian gold was the waterboy...he stood there smiling and calling out minny players when they were in their huddle...and yes brady couldnt even run the bootleg in 98.

Don't worry man, RR has brought us Tate Forcier, very mobile, Denard Robinson has break away speed, and next year we are bringin in Devin Gardner, also extremely mobile. I too love dual-threat quarterbacks.
    Go Blue!

He left a very bad first impression on me when I saw him in the Syracuse game that season, he kept taking sacks, no matter how good the team did, i just could not have faith in him. I thought the rest of the offense was good so it made him look good. I think Michigan has been long overdue for a mobile QB, i really didn't like the guys who Lloyd towards the end of his career kept recruiting with the exception of Henson, and to a lesser extent Jermaine Gonzales.

Tom Brady throws a perfect bomb to Tai Streets for a 76 yard TD…but sure he has a noodle arm 😂 🤦🏻‍♂️
