This is exactly what I want to do to my 2013 Daytona. How much did the 6.4 cam cost? Did you have to change lifters and rods too or just swap cam? What was the before rwhp And rwhp after the 54 gained? Post some 0-60 vids too
Sounds good, ive got a 14 rt charger, i also had the 2.65 gears, i ended up buying a mopar 3.92 rear end, with oem srt8 axles and a diablo dcx. I ran a time of 14.8 @93 in stock form with a straight pipes exhuast, after swap ive dropped to a 13.7 @ 99.6, major difference in driving, it actually feels like it has power now. Probably be doing a cam soon, contemplating a comp cam 274, or 6.4 cam.
+1coughenour this was also done in las vegas, air sucks here, and its a 1900ft elevation track to start out with. i usually run .1-.2 faster than 6.1 srts, and .2-.3 slower than 6.4s, which run 13.4s.
The new trinity 1000 tuner will take care of it all. You can get custom tunes now or use the Diablo can tunes that cone with the trinity. I achieved great numbers from just a cam swap and a custom tune. 56 rwhp.
If a dealer thinks you drove your car hard can void a warrantee... but usually the non-proactive owners get hosed by dealers. this is a quote "The saving grace for consumers is the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975. The act states that a dealer must prove that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before it can deny warranty coverage." some dealers will void warrantee if you have a CAI ot a aftermarket TB..
What dyno numbers did u get? I'm still tying to decide between this set up or the 274 comp can.. The comp can is double the price.. Wondering if it will be worth it?
Did you sacrifice any low end power for the gains up high with this cam? I'm thinking about doing this cam and long tubes on my 5.7 with the 392 intake manifold and 3000 stall converter as long as I'm not losing low end. I'm going to use the mds version of the cam so I don't have to swap out lifters and just upgrade the springs and push rods. Great gains for just the cam and tune.
with a 2.65 rar its by no means a drag car... ive ran 13.79 with her before, but no times since the mod. drag times isn't really my concern. I have my mustang for that. But for around $2k parts, labor, dyno tune, out the door, is a good price... parts used are 6.4L cam (yes VVT cam), Arrington pushrods, valve springs, retainers and of course new coolant, oil, plugs... with the auto cars you will still get great gains, however due to not being able to change the shift rpm points, you will not...
be able to spin her up to like 6200, which is where this cam like to run to. The 6speed guy will gain more (about 5-7 more rwhp) cuz they can hold the gear up to 6200+. With this mod, I drive the car just like it was stock.. you wont notice any difference there.. until you get on it. with my 2.65rar, I really feel the difference when I go from like 50-140.. if I go with like a 3.55 rar? yea big difference.. even a higher stall will really help... remember she weights 4300 without me in it..lol
Hey I've got a question I could really use answered. I hear you need to get non-MDS lifters if you want to cam swap, but I have a custom tune with MDS shut off. Do you know if you need new lifters if you have MDS disabled?
Xaiborg only pushrod, springs, locks, and retainers. The factory lifters were used. Check with Arrington for all the parts needed. My installer SNL out here in Keller, TX took care of the parts.
You might as well swap the mds lifters out they're weak anyways I'm on my 3rd set, never turned mds on for the 2 replacements, now I've got non mds lifters and a bon mds cam sitting in my garage waiting for headers to get here lol
Nigil Horton your not going to see much of any gains from a cat back system as the bottle neck is the cats...lol... but yes I had the corsa and bolt ons on before the cam swap. Cat back will just make it sound better. and the better quality cat back system you get the better the sound. I have zero drone inside the car. I don't mind drone for my race car, but I don't want to deal with that annoying sound in my daily. That's the corsa Extreme cat back system.
Damn this is nice, my worry is that I've seen people frustrated with the 6.4L auto (mds) cam. Is this the one you have? I'm trying to make sure I grab the right parts, will be turning off MDS, but want to make sure the cam is not worrisome. Thanks
Benjamin Glischinski the manual shift will turn off mds bro...mds is really not a problem it's about how you drive lol my car knows me enough to kick up to 8 when I need it
Hey man such a nice and beautiful mopar i just bought one yesterday im also in Houston I would like to do the same with mines as she's my daily at the moment which performance shop is good to go to man thatll do it right for me with the tune
I have 2013 charger rt blacktop..from where did u get the 392 camshaft? At Harrington all I saw were the springs and stuff needed except for the can itself
What are the specs on the cam you are running? I'm thinking I may have to do this in my Daytona. Tune, LT headers and this should do some serious wonders.
Y’all don’t fall for this shit , just listen to it and you can tell that’s not a cam the smallest can you can buy you’ll still be able to hear it with no exhaust set up and this guy has some kinda pipes so you’d def be able to hear the bluh bluh
I thought the 2012 charger had the 128 bit ecu that was encrypted , did people crack it already , I got a 2012 rt as a daily and that's what's stopping me from modding it
@burnzy7722 , could you plz give me the right setup , which springs and push-roads , cause i couldn't find them on arrington website, and can i use stock 6.4L springs and push-roads and lifters , waiting for your answer :)
lol no way. typical gains in auto cars is 50 rwhp, and 6 speed cars is a good 60 rwhp. with the auto cars we are still limited on raising shift points so I can't run it quite as high as I want to get 100% gains from the cam. I personally gained 54 rwhp but know there would be more. it was dyno tuned in the middle of summer here in TX and the shop air temp was 130. but 60 rwhp gains from a cam is wicked good.
and yes, its the 6,4L cam. The factory MOPAR cam that comes in the 6.4L. If you look online now for the cam, you will notice they cost like $250 when just 1 1/2 years ago when I did this, they were like $100...lol
Understandable! Now, you have the Cam, Diablo Trinity 1000, K&N Intake and Exhaust. Right? How much HP do you have to the wheels and how much to the crank?
it put down 54 more rwhp so about 379. corrected bhp should be around 430 bhp. its not a drag car by any means with the 2.65 rar, but on the highway I will pull away from 6.1L and sit right next to SS Camaros and the 5.0 stangs. was thinking about adding like a 50-75 shot so I can pull away from them. trust me, those owners sure don't like a car that weighs 700 lbs more than them to walk away from them....lol... without a super charger or turbo :P
I'm looking to Cam/Tune, Exhaust, Intake and Chip it with the Diablo and then also supercharge it next year. So your pulling 379 to the wheels and 430+ from crank? Damn that's exactly what I'm trying to do!
Whoa Weezy the cam, valve springs, push rods, locks and retainers. Of course a tune. I decided to have a custom dyno tune. All the parts were bought from Arrington Performance. SNL performance in Keller, TX did the install and my tuner used their dyno. I saw 54 rwhp gains and manual cars see 60+- rwhp gains.
burnzy7722 so nothing has to be done to the block just springs and retainer upgrade? So I don't need the cam phase limiter? This cam is a little bigger then the stock 5.7 just trying to get my ducks lined up before I go this route
Did you have to use the shims for your cam install since you use the 6.4 cam? Just trying get more info on the spring kit etc the 6.4L cam is on its way
When they tuned your car is it for the 89 or 93 octane fuel? Do you have a tuner that you can swap back and forth between the faster tune with out the MDS and a more fuel economic mode with it. I don't know if the tune is flashed is that all you can do or can you change the tune daily or when the need to go to the custom tune that you want. I only asked because i have a 2015 with the 8 speed auto and with MDS on in four cylinder mode i get around 31-33 mpg at 80 mph on the highway and 34+mpg at 60mph. I drive around 50-75 miles a day and that makes a difference, But when I want to go stomping on the gas i could switch it. I would keep 93 octane or 89 in the tank all the time which ever the tune required. Thanks again for the response on the earlier question.
idk what tuning is out for the 2015 yet. but with the 12's we can 100% tune the car with the Trinity 1000. My 93 tune is a custom dyno tune. I can run the stock tune if I want, but I just can't get into the throttle. If I want to get a 89 tune or 87, I would have to dyno the car. with the 6.4L cam I can run the stock tune but no way get on the throttle.
may be a dumb question, but would this void the warrantee (or if so, would they be able to tell since your using a dodge cam shaft?) I've heard alot about this mod and really want it, but I literally just brought my challenger and would hate to void the warrantee on it already
Anything that has to do with physically changing the engine voids the warranty. might be able to get by with a cold air intake but that might even void it.
but if your afraid to fight for your rights or that worried about it, you should never do a single performance mod or any mods to a car... and yes a dealer can tell if you take the timing chain cover off.. mine did. asked me if I installed an aftermarket cam, I said no I do not have anything but actual factory Dodge parts installed. If they voided my shit, I would sew Dodge and I would win cuz they would have to say that their own cam did the damage as my cam came in many cars.
Damn man that Hemi is sounding like a monster. Nice job
R/T Life i think im going to go this route instead of spending 600 on a camshaft just put in a 6.4L camshaft
The great thing about the 6.4 cam is its extremely cheap to get. Go to any dodge dealer and order one and its only like 150 bucks.

$2K For all parts, labor, & custom dyno tuning. SNL did all the work, Brian @ ExaTorque did all the tuning.
how much did the cam cost? did you have to get the msd delete kit and springs and all?

Dyno numbers please
2k for 56rwhp, best investment ever

Ehh not really. Comes out to $35ish bucks per hp. Thats a lot

I wonder if a scat pack stage 1 pcm would work good with that 392 cam?
are you able to use the MDS system with that cam if tuned the right way
yes, but I have it turned off in my tuner. I get 24.5+ mph on the highway doing 80mph and 26+ if I stay around 60ish. I avg about 18 mixed.
