      He's a fair character, if cunning and highly deceptive. He respects his opponents, studies and even admires the cultures of planets the empire rules, rather than simply crushing it for the empire's war machine. He's rarely arrogant, despite his incredible skill and ability, which makes him a dangerous enemy for the Rebels, who rely often on the enemy's pride to overlook details and slip by.

      Rebels has a very interesting way of cycling through its villains.
      The Grand Inquisitor was a dark reflection of Kanan Jarrus. Neither of them were fully trained in their respective arts, but each had to overcome the other. It just so happens that the Inquisitor let himself die because he knew what was coming next-
      Darth Vader. A nigh-unstoppable force, Vader hounded the Rebels- and even the addition of Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex could only do so much. Vader could even claim that the crew of the Ghost didn't defeat- while he didn't capture them, they didn't defeat him man to man, but they lost Ahsoka in the process.
      Now we have Grand Admiral Thrawn. Whereas Vader and the Inquisitor were physically powerful villains, Thrawn's power is in his mind. It's all a chess game to him- where others see failure, Thrawn sees a learning experience. Eventually, Thrawn will go from student to teacher- and the Rebels are going to be in for a painful lesson.

    Thrawn's too smart to just kill Kallus. Thrawn would never just waste a potential resource, which he implies at the end of the clip. You subvert spies you catch. Have them feed false information. I love how Thrawn is simply toying with the rebels. He knew Kallus was the likely suspect but he needed more solid proof. A spy was within his office, yet he pretended nothing was wrong with the map to give that spy a feeling of "safety," he pretended he was convinced the real spy had been caught. The only thing he probably hadn't accounted for was the use of Droids against him, and I really liked how that forced him to go all out. In the end, the rebels, believing Fulcrum is safe, will become overconfident. And when Thrawn has finished spinning his web, and the rebels are lured in a false sense of security, he will strike....Kallus is going to regret not going with Ezra when he had the chance.

      It's not that. Thrawn studies the art and culture of many planets to know his enemy. Actually i miss a few things:
      1. He is not using his more unconventional tactics yet, he maybe doesn't need them, because he can use the full Empire resources, but still, using mining equipment and stealth asteroids... that was the stuff that made him famous and fantastic.
      2. He is a brilliant leader and doesn't like unnecessary casualties, he doesn't just throw away troops and he is a leader people will follow, not cause of fear, but because of loyality. In the series he sacrifices more than the old one would.
      Those 2 points are still missing. But the rest is quiete good. i really hope they don't botch him and make him some second rate villian. He does deserve more.

      Good choice of analogy; but if Thrawn is Holmes and Yularen is Watson, the next big question is this: who would be the Star Wars counterpart of Moriarty?
      In regards to my suggested candidates for such a role, I'm currently leaning towards either Xizor (was leader of the Black Sun during the Legends EU, and also had the honor of getting himself involved in an intense cat-and-mouse game with Vader),
      ...or Cad Bane (it's not just the criminal mastermind element that makes Bane eligible.
      I'm recommending Bane partly because I'm curious about what happened to him after The Clone Wars; plus, similar to Thrawn, Bane could be described as a resourceful, red-eyed, and blue-skinned Star Wars antagonist who became well liked by fans despite originating from a storytelling medium outside of the trilogy films.)

      Most likely he suspected it heavily, but chose to wait for more evidence to present itself. He was always meticulous like that in the books. Not jumping to conclusions was one of the key things that set Thrawn apart from other imperial commanders, and it's part of why he did so well.
      In a roundabout way, it was also what eventually defeated him; he suspected something was off with the Noghri race that he had been using as personal deathguards, but chose to wait to see if it was just a few miscreants or a populationwide issue. As it turned out, when he finally got his proof of the treachery, he was standing right next to his personal Noghri bodyguard...who promptly stabbed him in the chest and fled.

      Except Thrawn does use the changes they made to the map to find Attolan and Chopper base. When the 7th fleet arrives in orbit he brings 2 Interdictors with him. He didn't just know which planet he was going to he knew where on the planet to arrive and create an instant blockade because he probably looked not at the star system as a dot but the orbital mechanics of the planet and its rotation. Thrawn always does his homework.
      Admiral Ozzel of Death Squadron arrived on top of Hoth but failed to do the same.

  • @jorgeortiz8183
    @jorgeortiz8183 7 лет назад +31

    Yup, best Thrawn scene yet. Except it does piss me off that the writers felt too add Thrawn say "angle of the line". They sometimes try too damn hard to make Thrawn look smart, but man, the organ music when Thrawn echoes "Kallus". You could just feel the hurt in Yularen, but also the impact in Thrawns words. Lars is just so good as Thrawn, just love how he's slightly shaky yet impressed when he complements Kallus on reprogramming his droids. What's so great about the voice of Thrawn is that it's patience, observant, yet a competitive spirit that can't conceal himself for too long, but that spirit will soon rise up, for Thwarn doesn't fear the stakes, as in his eyes it's all a game, a game of wits; a game that he can't wait to win.

    • @rahn45
      @rahn45 7 лет назад +9

      And whats' wrong with the angle of a line? One's hand will favor certain angles to draw on, this applies to writing words as well as artistic lines. This isn't too mention that art is one of Thawn's great passions. You have people who study certain artists who get to know even how they do single brush strokes, allowing them to discern fakes from genuine articles.

    • @jorgeortiz8183
      @jorgeortiz8183 7 лет назад +6

      rahn45 I thought that too, but I was taken back just because the lines seemed too different in the helmet than in the painting he hand, and if they wanted to add another observation from Thrawn he could have mentioned how Lothal is significant to the Ghost Crew, to show how he keeps tabs on everyone's habits and spirits, a key element that makes Thrawn a unique tactician, for manipulating the humanity of people to his advantage. I understand what you mean, and how it can make for a subtle detail that makes Thrawn's logic more grounded in the scene, so I'll let it slide and I'll agree with your point for now.

    I love how Thrawn isn’t your typical SW antagonist. Unlike so many others, he’s not loud, or frothing at the mouth, he’s not full of hate, he’s a genius, and he’s very polite. At times he can be more terrifying than 98% of SW villains because almost nothing gets past him.

    The way Thrawn examined the painting with his knowledge of art and recollecting his thoughts on his assassin’s plan was just amazing. It shows just how cleverly intellectual he is as an imperial strategist and admiral. Also it shows just how menacingly scary he is on a level of intelligence.
