Thrawn, or perhaps I should address him by his true name, Mitth'raw'nuruodo, has truly become Sun Tzu. As well as a military and political genius, was indeed a master martial artist. I hate to say it, but this version got him got closer to his source material than Legends. While Legends is in its own league, Canon Thrawn has become something truly special. Something familiar, but yet something truly unique.
Ah, I'm pretty sure Grand Admiral Thrawn is woefully lacking in politcal matters. In the canon books, he needed others to get him out of sticky political situations.
Well, "political genius" is a vast overstatement. In the Canon novel trilogy, Thrawn is completely clueless in Human politics, as there is no strategy, just ego.
Yes. In legends is just a villain. A servant of the empire. loyal to it. In canon his allegiance is divided between two factions, the Chiss Ascendancy and the Galactic Empire, and a servant with divided allegiance, is not a servant.
The94Venom Fett was smart enough to track down the Falcon. He talked back to Vader, and managed to survive a shootout with the heroes. Taken separately, they mean nothing. But combined, it made him something. You have to remember, this was the 80s, where if you have no name, no face, and not much of a voice, your chances of lasting 5 seconds against the heroes are pretty slim. Boba Fett managed far more than that, he actually moved the plot. However, they handled his death shockingly poorly.
@@ChouRaiyuki He found out about the Death Star super easily when no one else in the Galaxy except the Emperor's chosen few knew about it, so I wouldn't be surprised.

I love this scene so much tbh. Its set up brilliantly. All of it was foreshadowed several episodes before. Thrawn knowing martial arts, Kallus’s betrayal revealed to Thrawn and how they planned to use it against the rebels. Its all set up perfectly and Kallus walks right into the trap thinking he still has the upper hand.
@@samsonguy10k oof that made me realise that Thrawn probably realised that was Ezra's hideout due to the helmet collection and could've researched Ezra and why a street rat would join the rebellion and then would have found out about Ezra's parents and connected their legacy as voices of freedom to Ezra being original voice of freedom for the rebellion and realised that using Lothal against Ezra is the best way to beat Ezra specifically like he tries in the finale 🥺
I love how he takes Kallus down using the exact same techniques from dueling his sparring droids; the upper-body shots combined with a swinging kick once his opponent was winded. Had Kallus been more observant when he saw Thrawn training, he would’ve known how to deflect his blows. But that would require someone else to be smarter than Thrawn...
This is one of the reasons why Thrawn is a great character. He's a tactical genius with a penchant for art. He also isn't afraid to get down and dirty when it comes to taking on enemies of the Empire/Chiss Ascendancy. He'll come at you in a fist fight soon as he would command his starfleet to wipe out a rebel base. He's a warrior in every sense of the word.
Thrawn's pretty talented at looking at the bigger picture. On multiple occasions, he picks up on seemingly unrelated elements and goes, "Taken separately, they mean nothing. But together, they mean this significant thing."
Thrawn is such a worthy adversary for the rebels. He wasn't just some brute with an army, but he was cold, calculating, strategic, and wasn't afraid to get his own hands dirty. He was truly committed to what he was doing and, while I wish he was on the side of good, he was an incredible foe. Also, Kallus had one of the coolest redemption arcs. I really loved his turn around and the reason that started the whole thing. Zeb really reawakened his humanity and showed him what it was like to have a person watch your back. There's so much behind his decision to turn to the side of the rebels.
@@zeta5684 Tarkin was at least not a complete fool, but woefully limited by his closed-minded thinking, his ruthlessness to the point of excess, and his blatant overconfidence. He was the embodiment of the doctrine that made so many Imperial officers predictable and easy to defeat through their reliance on overwhelming force. Yes, Tarkin was more competent than the average Imperial officer, but the thing is: that means absolutely nothing. Tarkin's own doctrine and the Empire's overconfidence made it so that the average Imperial officer was... let's just say, quite a bit less competent than should have been the case. Someone like Thrawn would have made quick work of Tarkin.
@@seadaw2152 Tarkin is not perfect but he still deserves some respect. While Tarkin's death on the Death Star can be fairly attributed to his overconfidence and hubris, make no mistake, his failure that day was ultimately because of the force and an extremely unlikely, illogical chance. His particular ruthlessness/hubris would ultimately be one of the underlining reasons for the Empire's destruction but on the basis of pure competency, he is/should be good enough to invalidate the statement made by op. Thrawn is on another level than everyone, even Palpatine in some ways (not sequel Palpatine...) so of course he would beat Tarkin. Tarkin is in fact very competent though and keep in mind, we see a disproportionate amount of his shortcomings compared to his achievements over the course of his career.
@@zeta5684 First of all, thank you for responding in a polite manner. I have had multiple bad experiences with commenting about Star Wars lore, so again, thank you. You make very good points, and I'm going to be honest: My previous comment was fueled by anger I felt over a different video. Tarkin is indeed very competent and does deserve credit for that. My comment was admittedly quite disrespectful towards his achievements because I really, really despise Tarkin as a person and as a leader, which is the same sentiment I share for Anakin/Vader (That was the subject of the other video. Some of the most passionate Vader fans creep me out because they seem to love it when he kills innocents and others who did not deserve to be punished, let alone killed). Again, my apologies for my discrediting comment. My disliking of Tarkin as a person hindered my objective thinking. Of course, he is not a good person, on the contrary: He is one of the most immoral Star Wars characters I can think of. That does not mean, however, that he is not competent. Thank you again for answering politely.
How Thrawn compliments people 101: being sassy as all hell to the point where everyone thinks it's an insult. Meanwhile Thrawn (if you've read the books) is as much a Rebel at heart as Kallus is.
Better Fist fight Din Djarrin vs Moff Gideon Season 2 of Mandalorian Agent Kallus vs Grand Admiral Thrawn Season 3 of Star Wars Rebels I'm going with Kallus vs Thrawn.
They've been speeding up Thrawns detective skills. Just like how they found out who the spy was from some last minute details. It would have taken him longer, but they needed to speed this up for the finale.
Kou D3x They didn't speed it up at all. Thrawn has been putting prices together this entire season. Kallus should just wear a sign saying he is a traitor. He did so much stuff to tip thrawn off. Anyways I am a bit of a thrawn fanboy but if you have read the books then you know this is an inferior version of the true Superior thrawn.
Thrawn: beats the shit out of Kallus. Also Thrawn: takes the time to break him down further by explaining exactly how he found the rebel base. Also respect to him for taking Kallus on one on one rather than having his troopers deal with him. How does this moment still manage still manage to still be so heroic for Kallus despite Thrawn defeating him? My favorite part is when he’s like you have the heart of a rebel. And Kallus is like I’ll take it as a compliment.
The fight is longer than a previous video that I saw that was upload 4 hours ago! I'm quite happy with it, especially the fact that Thrawn ovewhelm his opponent. For now on, I just want Kallus to breakout, fight desperatly and on his final stand, think of Zeb and the meaning of what he had accomplish in is life before he dies... Nothing. I want dark drama!
thrawn is messy omg, but lol that's why I love him. taking about "a pity you don't study art" like that's the most common study in the Imperial Academy. but I also love kallus so my hearts torn into two
Thrawn is the very model of a Military Mastermind. He shows honor, sense, devotion to his own cause. But most of all, he thinks like a rebel. He's ruthless and cold when he needs to be; he gives the vibe of a killer. But nevertheless he cares passionately about Art and Culture, allowing him to see things in a different light than most of his collegues.
Thrawne may be an Imperial, but he’s definitely one of the few who’s earned my respect. The Empire definitely would have survived if Thrawne was the one in charge.
Went back and watched some of the earlier episodes after this. Still almost hard to believe the cold and seemingly heartless Imperial would become such a devoted Rebel.
Let it be known that Kallus is in his mid to late 30s here, and Thrawn is almost 60. A near elderly man managed to beat up a top of his class soldier who was over 20 years younger than him.
I love how people think that thrawn is a pushover commander that can only tell orders, don't be mistaken that man can throw HANDS and he takes all the smoke
And this is why Thrawn is the scariest Star Wars villain. He's not all-powerful, like the Emperor, nor does he have the scary suit, like Vader. No, he has a level of intelligence that exceeds every other character bar none, and has trained in multiple fighting styles to boot. He's smarter than the *Emperor,* even, able to play the Rebels' own moves against them, and can take down highly-trained officers and warriors without breaking a sweat. And yet, through it all, he maintains his calm, cold, calculating demeanor. Every loss is a victory for him. It ultimately took the most risky and unpredictable of plans to take him down, because every other option had been exhausted. And even then, he's still out there, acting as mastermind behind the remnants of the Empire.
Thrawn in Rebels: "Your technique is good, but limited by your training in the imperial academy." Gregor in the Bad Batch: "I didn't teach em everything. That wouldn't be smart, would it?"
That's one of many things I like about Thrawn; good at man-to-man combat as much as he is a military leader. He shot at a tie fighter with a blaster and didn't flinch! Though maybe foolish had he known the pilot was a pretty good shot...
That moment you go onto RUclips just to watch POVs of roller coasters and when you come on a Rebels spoiler shows up at the top… NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I'm not watching any spoilers BTW!
It's funny how I went from: "Fucking hell not this guys again" to "Fuck yes Kallus is here!" Upon seeing Kallus. He's one of my favourite characters in rebels
Voice actor trivia; Thrawn is voiced by the guy who played Charles Augustus Milverton on Sherlock, and Kallus is voiced by the guy who played Martin Luther King in Selma.
THIS…. *THIS* is what I love most about Thrawn. Not ONLY is he the most logical and the most intelligent villain. But he ALSO can beat the living tar out of you with his bare hands. Most people might underestimate him because he’s not as bulky as Vader or got any special powers like Papà Palps. But in hand to hand combat he will kick your ass.
I literally just realized that Kallus doesn’t look totally beat up at first, but after they drag him back into the room, he does, WHICH MEANS they beat up my baby boy even more 😭😭😭

Thrawn is easily the coolest SW character.
Not the coolest, but one of the coolest imperials.
@@brodyking7095 Exactly
@@brodyking7095 I respectfully disagree. I think he is the coolest.
List anyone ? Canon or Legends
He is the coolest. So much so, I root for him at times.
His Source was also Rommel, and they went much further away from that, whichis a pitty, cause that aspect of him made him even better.
Jacob Sailer I don't see it. I still find his Legends version far more capable in politics and warfare.
Lol Death Troopers retain the "Do Jack Shit but look cool as Shit" Award. Congrats
Isn't that Boba Fett's award? Or Phasma's?
The94Venom shared first place.
The94Venom nah Fett got the "Didnt do shit" because he did some stuff, Phasma can have the other award in the 'New trilogy' cermonies alright
Lance Guinto he is alive. LOOK AT THE CANON BOOKS HES ALIVE HES ALIVE(not trying to be mean thou)
Kallus thought he outsmarted Thrawn when in reality, Thrawn was the one who outsmarted Kallus. In effect, Kallus played right into Thrawn's hands.
Mitth'raw'nuruodo Joestar: you may have outsmarted me, but I outsmarted your outsmarting
Thrawn: Now that he knows my "plan", I will plan around the plan that he planned around my plan
"Or should I call you Darth Sid..." I was not certainly the only one who thought about it...
supreme leader snoke Keep dreaming...
It wouldn't surprise me if Thrawn had somehow studied obscure sith art and eventually somehow found out the emperor's Sith name all things given.
@@ChouRaiyuki He found out about the Death Star super easily when no one else in the Galaxy except the Emperor's chosen few knew about it, so I wouldn't be surprised.
*Yoda gets shocked across the room
Palatine: Yes yes, we all know that now!
The moment you saw Thrawn standing there and the music played, you knew it was about to go down.
This is actually the best unarmed fight sequence in the Star Wars franchise, what a technical beatdown by Thrawn!
Donnie Yen (Chirrut Imwe) in Rogue One: And I take that as an insult.
@@RenaldyCalixteHe said unarmed
@@konstantinosnikolakakis8125 Chirrut doesn't use blasters. He uses a staff.
Keep in mind, Kallus was a field officer having taken on even the likes of Giant of a warrior Zeb and bested them at that. So the fact that Thrawn bested him the way he did is far more than impressive
Kallus earned his own lassat bo staff from a fallen lassat because of his prowess in combat, so thrawn taking him down says much more.
Seriously, I think people forget sometimes that Kallus is an amazing fighter. What makes the scene that much cooler/scarier is that Thrawn is better.
@@rebeccalambert3240 Unfortunately Kallus didn't get a lot of screen time so we didn't see him get too many fight scenes in Season 4. But in Season 1 he defeated Zeb in one on one combat. I thought that was impressive.
Now, I already really liked how they represented Thrawn in the show, but this is just great!
Is Kallus using Ezra's old home as his hideout?
Yeah he WAS. I love this scene BTW
It was the last place not found by the Empire until then. Sad to see it found out. Had such a magnificent view.
I just realized that
Kallus is one of my favorite charachters in this series
Νίκος Μελιδονιώτης Guess what...και εμένα...

@@jaremymallister9004 nah maul is not that good in rebels as callus.
You know your show is interesting when you're rooting for the villian
0:25 And that's when Kallus knew... he f***ed up
It’s honestly scary sometimes how smart Thrawn is
I love how he takes Kallus down using the exact same techniques from dueling his sparring droids; the upper-body shots combined with a swinging kick once his opponent was winded.
Thrawn makes Batman look like he struggles to observe things closely.
Also, Kallus looks kinda hot with his hair messed up. lol

Thrawn is like Tharkin except charming, alien and actually competent.
Nah Tarkin was mostly competent--or at least, he could cover his lack of competence with ruthlessness. Thrawn is a genius.
Tarkin was very competent.
This encapsulates everything I absolutely love about Thrawn.
I love Kallus as a character now, working with both sides must be pretty rough but he did it amazingly! I was so happy when he was a volcrum!
Thrawn: You have the heart of a Rebel
Kallus: I'll take that as a compliment
Me: Yeah, knowing Thrawn, that was probably how he intended it
To be honest I kinda was expecting him to retort with something like, "and so it was"
How Thrawn compliments people 101: being sassy as all hell to the point where everyone thinks it's an insult. Meanwhile Thrawn (if you've read the books) is as much a Rebel at heart as Kallus is.
Honestly, Thrawn is so insanely cool I can't help but cheer for him whenever he's on screen
We don’t get many fistfights in Star Wars, but when we do, they’re awesome
Better Fist fight
Din Djarrin vs Moff Gideon Season 2 of Mandalorian
Agent Kallus vs Grand Admiral Thrawn Season 3 of Star Wars Rebels
I'm going with Kallus vs Thrawn.
I started out hating Kallus.. Now he's one of my favorites
Damnit! I didn't think he'd find out this early !
Niamh Mclarnon I know right
It's like thrawn expected this to happen!!
Turtle King I mean, he is younger than Heir to the Empire
0:50 I love how Kallus gets back up!
This is one of the best RUclips comments sections I have ever read.
This is the best scene in all of Star Wars, I love grand admiral Thrawn
Me too
Okay, Thrawn should be a playable villain for Battlefront 2. Now I'm sure of it.
That is if he doesnt kill himself for having Plot armor save his enemies time and time again.
Josh Engineer LOL
WHY, THRAWN WHY?!??!?!???!!! ...he's still a badass villain tho...
i am indeed badass
I'm even more badass in Rogue One though...
I thought tr 8r is badass.
Yes I am, Thank you
Agent Kallus you are far from badass

at this moment, kallus knew he ****** up
Thrawne may be an Imperial, but he’s definitely one of the few who’s earned my respect. The Empire definitely would have survived if Thrawne was the one in charge.
Thrawn leading the Imperial Fleet at the Battle of Endor would have been utterly insane. The Rebels wouldn't have stood a chance.
Be very afraid when the space organ starts playing.
The overhead shot of Kallus veing dragged into the tower continues to be one of my favorite SW shots
Great job, agent. You just gave Thrawn everything he needed!
I love that not only is Thrawn a master strategist he is also a formidable fighter. He is the perfect villain.
Went back and watched some of the earlier episodes after this. Still almost hard to believe the cold and seemingly heartless Imperial would become such a devoted Rebel.
It's because of Zeb. Zeb convinced him to join the Rebellion without realizing it.
As Thrawn himself said, physical exercise can prepare you for the occasion where you need to throw some hands.
2:28 "And inform Lord Vader".
Let it be known that Kallus is in his mid to late 30s here, and Thrawn is almost 60.
A near elderly man managed to beat up a top of his class soldier who was over 20 years younger than him.
2:12 Kallus looks like Obi-Wan - against Maul (TCW).
I love how people think that thrawn is a pushover commander that can only tell orders, don't be mistaken that man can throw HANDS and he takes all the smoke
he is nothing againtst me. why would he even try?
Grand admiral Thrawn The real Grand admiral Thrawn respects his opponents, and rarely under estimates them. He would call am adversary "nothing"
Grand admiral You are the cringiest person I'm the world
who are you
you are not me
DIsney's Plot Armor.
Rebels are playing checkers while Thrawn is playing 4d chess with time travel
Was Kallus sending these messages from Ezra’s home and sending secret broadcasts like his parents? Wow now that’s poetic writing
We need a Thrawn Movie!
Thrawn in Rebels: "Your technique is good, but limited by your training in the imperial academy."
Gregor in the Bad Batch: "I didn't teach em everything. That wouldn't be smart, would it?"
"YOU TALK TOO MUCH!!!" Ha!
That's one of many things I like about Thrawn; good at man-to-man combat as much as he is a military leader.
He shot at a tie fighter with a blaster and didn't flinch! Though maybe foolish had he known the pilot was a pretty good shot...
I wish we got more of Thrawn in action. Let’s be real. Thrawn knew he was in his office within like 5 seconds of him getting there.
Thrawn waited to make his entrance for the dramatic effect.
Kallus: you talk too much!
Me: no, he doesn't talk enough. I love that voice.
Agreed.
That moment you go onto RUclips just to watch POVs of roller coasters and when you come on a Rebels spoiler shows up at the top… NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I'm not watching any spoilers BTW!
Impresivne martial arts skills by Grand Admiral Thrawn and detective work.
It's funny how I went from: "Fucking hell not this guys again" to "Fuck yes Kallus is here!" Upon seeing Kallus. He's one of my favourite characters in rebels
I swear they made Thrawn an art crazed genius to give Art Majors in college something to feel good about their major
1:14 THIS IS SPARTA!!
Voice actor trivia; Thrawn is voiced by the guy who played Charles Augustus Milverton on Sherlock, and Kallus is voiced by the guy who played Martin Luther King in Selma.
*Alexsandr Will Remember This*
Kallus: "The Rebels are smarter than you give them credit for"
Darth Marr "He was a better Sith than you give him credit for Ravage"
:))))))))))))
Keep those swtor reference's coming
Darth Marr was such a badass. One of my favourite Sith from that era. I'd prefer him over someone like Vader or Sidious to be perfectly honest.
By the light of Lothal’s moons.
Thrawn perfectly checks Kallus’s first leg kick, and then throws a brutal knee to the body towards the end of the fight. Fucking perfect bro 😂
I knew that Thrawn would use the transmission to trace the signal.
I hope someone picks up that phone, because I freak en called it
I literally just realized that Kallus doesn’t look totally beat up at first, but after they drag him back into the room, he does, WHICH MEANS they beat up my baby boy even more 😭😭😭
THE FOOL! by deleting that map in the first place he gave thrawn EXACTLY what he needed!
We all know Thrawn isn’t known as a fighter, better known for his strategies but he’s really good here.
