In the first novel of the canon series for Thrawn, Is revealed that he trains not just as mine but his body too. There’s like a secret to having having a fit enough body to create a fit, which gives you faster reaction time because of all the blood flowing up there physically means It’s harder to assassinate him.
He embodies the character so perfectly that I can't imagine anyone else playing Thrawn. The casting was on point. I hope Disney never recasts the role. Lars IS Thrawn.
tbf members of their species do have the ability to use the force (I believe at the most when they are young) since they live in the unknown region they use the force to help navigate it. they called them "skywalkers" also because their species has much more intelligence as they age by typically 2 times (for example his species 5 year olds have the mental capacity of a 10 year old, so in that sense a physically middle aged man would have a mental capacity of a wise old man)
@@TheTrytix Well if you read the Legend comics he did learn to understand the force to a degree. He collected lizard like creatures called Ysalamari (yes they’re called that) which were able to repel force users.
5:40 i love how terrified Captain Slavin is in this scene. Thrawn was always so calm, collected, and never once did he show visible signs of aggression or fear. Slavin was probably one of the first imperial officers to see just how angry and terrifying thrawn can be when he ISNT ALREADY TERRIFYINGLY CALM AND COLLECTED. Took your time with Google dictionary I see... Your only problem was using the word "loquacious." Which has nothing to do with the SOUND or TONE of his voice. Loquacious means a person who talks a lot, or talks TOO much. Nice try, trying to sound articulate.
@@wadewilson8011 I'm wondering if the OP meant "salacious" instead of "loquacious" considering they were torn between finding his voice sexy as a good or inappropriate thing.
36:28 I always love a villain who acknowledges and praises the skills of their rivals. Thrawn knowing that the pilot of the stolen tie defender is not Hera due to the imperial forces still being active in the pursuit puts a smile on my face.
The fact that he let the rebels win a bunch of smaller battles so he could track their movements and find their base... and then when the rebels tried to remove their planet from his database of possible locations, he memoized the planets and knew the one that was missing was their base??? He is SUCH a good villain.
Thrawn is the type of villain that plays the long game yet very calculative, learning his enemies tactics and their history. Knows how to cut his lost when the battle is not going in his favor without letting his own ego consume him further. This is what makes him one of the dangerous villain in SW.
Its awesome that thrawn put on a chestplate and a helmet when commanding the ground, its such attention to detail because thrawn wouldnt be vain enough to scoff at basic protection just because it was less comfortable or stylish.
42:04 this scene bears a much more powerful message if you have read the expanded lore and Thrawn comics: After he caught her in an underhanded deal to put herself in power on Lothal but being unable to prove it, Governor Price basically made a deal with then-Captain Thrawn to cover for his social gaffes and teach him the art of political maneuvering which w,as one of the few areas Thrawn was not so apt in. THIS scene, in a most beautiful way, is Thrawn making making something absolutely clear to her: He's an Imperial Grand Admiral, Only Tarkin ostensibly outranks him in the military. He has an entire fleet to call upon, not merely a single ship, and none of his subordinates would sell him out as he's a genuinely good commander. He has the respect of Darth Vader and the ear of the Emperor. He doesn't Need her anymore, and this fiasco is simply proof that she has outlived her usefulness.
I just recently realised that Thrawn calling Sato, "one of the greatest commanders to come from the Mykapo system" was an insult and not a compliment 😂😂
He respects his enemies abilities. He would not say Sato is the best to come out of the Mykapo system as an insult. He says it to recognize Sato’s abilities as a commander.

In the first new canon Thrawn book, it's revealled thst Pryce was the one responsible for the civilian casualties. Thrawn didn't like that but sadly there was nothing he could do about it. It's one reason why he only tolerates her, but doesn't like her.
Grand Admiral Thrawn is a true piece of work. His weapon is his mind and how he deals with all of the situations around him. He sees the bigger picture indeed. The whole Galactic picture.
It’s because Slavin was being racist/speciesist. Thrawn does not tolerate racism because that’s something he faced a lot of while at the imperial academy in his earlier days.
Thrawn and Hera are just so perfect. The way he's casually talking and whenever his back is turned you can see her eyes flickering, measuring the situation, weighing options. Meanwhile Thrawn moves with complete confidence, every possibility already weighed, measured and accounted for. Contrasts. I think Thrawn was being perfectly honest when he said he thought it was unfortunate their first meeting might be their last. There's a certain part of him that admires the fight, wants the challenge.

@@Brother_O4TS I do agree. Then dying would have had a more impactful effect. But I think, the sudden focus from Sabine's story to the rebellion and ultimately Ezra and Kanan's story would have taken away from the latter. Losing both your mother and brother is a lot. So they would need a few more episodes to wrap up Sabine's story cuz she would definitely want revenge for it. As mature as she was in those episodes, she's still Sabine, a hot headed Mandolorian. So it would definitely make this final season a little messier. They could have done it but it would shake things up a bit. And ultimately, she did lose both of them, and her father in the Purge of Mandalore. Rn the only family she has left is Ezra and Ahsoka. The others are scattered across the galaxy.
I was thinking Thrawn had to do some "evil" acts just to stay in Palpatine's and Tarkin's good books. If it was up to Thrawn, he would do things less villainously.
I love the little fact that the only person Thrawn even was afraid of was Anakin skywalker/Darth Vader, noone really scared him more then skywalker and he did not enjoy the fact Ahsoka was Anakins master, love it. He might not have shown fear from the name Anakin skywalker but hes actions shows it and the Comic says more about it.
Just writing to say thank you for this compilation. Without this context a lot of the Ahsoka series did not make sense. Using Thrawn as a focal point seems like a good way to catch up.
Just got to meet Lars Mikkelsen at C2E2 he's a really great and friendly guy. When I told him he plays the sophisticated villain very well such as Thrawn and magnussen from Sherlock, he told me "thank you, I don't know what it is lately with my brother and I but we seem to get villain roles lately, you can imagine what our mother thinks about it" lol.

Thrawn is like Professor Moriarty and Sherlock Holmes rolled into one terrifyingly prescient and slightly uncanny valley-ish alien package. No force powers, no magic, no heroic plot armour, yet he's scarier than almost anyone else save for a few select individuals in the galaxy, only because of his sheer indomitable, ruthless intellect. Even when he's not on screen, it's as if he can almost see our heroes, like they're only ever a couple of wrong moves away from bringing him and his armada of death down on their own heads. When he speaks, it's as if he's vivisecting everyone around him, like he can break something down into its smallest relevant component parts, and reassemble it again in order just by looking. He sees your works, your wants, your needs, your plans, your mind, your heart, and your soul. He might know you better than you know yourself... and he will use this, and every means at his disposal to make you trap and destroy yourself. Utterly devoid of sentimentality, compassion, or anything which could stand in the way of his victory. He is patience and pragmatism and intelligence and willpower incarnate. He is Thrawn.
You should write a book or something. It's been a while since I've read anything this great 👏 Thrawn is easily my favourite character and you just described him perfectly.
My God man this guy was a damn good detective and investigator I can understand why he was promoted by the emperor so damn fast in the Empire it's a shame with his skills that he pretty much wasn't the straight leader going into the force Awakening era
I can see why others love him for his skill and tactics if the emperor had listened to him instead of tarkin who knows how the empire would last it might be almost Invincible
I think a stormtrooper commander who didn't like Thrawn said something along the lines of if Thrawn's method of leadership spread throughout the Imperial Navy, the Empire would stand forever.
a fact you may not know: thrawn is voiced by a danish actor called lars mikkelsen, who is the older brother of mads mikkelsen, who is well known for playing galen erso in rogue one, jürgen voller in indiana jones 5 and replacing johnny depp as grindelwald in the harry potter spinoff movies. as for lars mikkelsen, he's well known in the uk for playing charles magnussen, the main antagonist of the bbc's modern version of sherlock, and he's actually returned to play the role in live action for future projects spearheaded by dave filoni, starting with the ahsoka tv show
You'd love the Thrawn: Ascendancy trilogy then and the first new canon Thrawn book (Thrawn, 2017). That gives you his backstory up to his fake exile and climb through the ranks to Grand Admiral.
“If captain Syndulla were piloting this ship our fighters would not have lasted this long” one of Thrawns best lines, shows he honors his opponents for their strengths and never underestimates them which is why he is one of the most perfect villains ever written
Thrawn is vastly different than any villain that was in a cartoon series. Disney could’ve made his voice actor make him an over the top villain, but no they chose Lars Mikkelson to portray Thrawn with a calm voice and with such excellent dialogue
I’m so fucking excited for next Wednesday, we will finally get this spine chilling voice in live action! Also how he calls it the clone WAR not WARS really scarily shows how his minds sees the bigger picture
My favorite has to be the “narrowed the search” one. There really was no stopping Thrawn from finding them. The Rebels appeared to win even when their location was as closed to comprised as possible but Thrawn came out in top either way. I’m sure he already suspected Kallus at that point.
When thrawn counters by saying his troops are safe and he can now kill everyone without imperial losses, that’s when Ezra realizes he is dealing with an entirely unique opponent. Thrawn doesn’t care about morality if it leads him away from the strategically sound option.
This is so good. He said he know all secrets in THE galaxy and didn't hear about Thrawn. The problem is Thrawn is not in THIS galaxy. Whales transported him outside (Rebels's ending)
@@TheMiczelo My theory is that Eli Vanto and Admiral Ar'alani (in the Chiss Ascendancy/Unknown Regions) managed to make some kind of long range communciation device to communicate with the Chimaera in exile. It would explain how the Imperial allies knew and were able to gather resources for Thrawn's return. Pellaeon did say that their entire plan hinged on remaining secret and appearing as separated loyalists to the Empire that we're organized. So obviously they were able to keep Thrawn's location/plans under wraps.
Thrawn is such a complex character, a man who studies art, philloshpy and culture and yet he manages a biggoted facist military because of their might, i think this aspect of thrawn is lost in some stories, that at the end of the day the empire is a means to an end.

And really no one would have expected space whales and even then he had like a dozen star destroyers in orbit to even get to him (Space whales op) and they didn’t even kill him. Faloni is a og star wars fan mentored by george lucas who has written the clone wars and several other top tier star wars series, and now hes writing ahsoka so I can assure you he will be the calm collected super intelligent strategist as in all other content he is in, and will probably lose to the stupidity or betrayal of his underlings once more.
Btw the battle of attollon because of admiral constatine’s disobedience, the bendu zapping his stuff, and price’s negligence of the fleet while he was on the ground that allowed the other interdictor to be destroyed. Price lost to the rebels at their encampment on lothal while thrawn had no idea of the imperial attack as he was on coruscant, he only got back to lothal after the command center on the dome was captured and had the upper hand until space whales kidnapped him, even though the rebels recaptured the shield they would have been unable to launch the dome as it would still have destroyed the city, the shield only prevented bombardment of the city. I believe it’s more training then anything else
@@gianmarcopow-sang8690it can be a bit of both
Is freaking space. Months locked in a ship. Only training and studying
hand to hand as well, he literally punch them every hit.
In the first novel of the canon series for Thrawn, Is revealed that he trains not just as mine but his body too. There’s like a secret to having having a fit enough body to create a fit, which gives you faster reaction time because of all the blood flowing up there physically means It’s harder to assassinate him.
His voice is like a serving of the finest of wines & smooth as butter tbh.
Whoever picked Lars Mikkelsen for Thrawn is an absolute genius 🧠🧠 No one pulls off the more perfect subtle voice for a villain of bad intentions!
He embodies the character so perfectly that I can't imagine anyone else playing Thrawn. The casting was on point. I hope Disney never recasts the role. Lars IS Thrawn.
You should listen to the cannon thrawn audio books narrated by Mark Thompson, it's almost identical to Lars
Robin Atkin Downes?
Man, if Thrawn could use the Force, he'd be unstoppable.
Definitely
His name is Palpatine
Hell, if Thrawn could UNDERSTAND how the force works, he'd be unstoppable. As that would remedy one of his few and only weaknesses.
tbf members of their species do have the ability to use the force (I believe at the most when they are young) since they live in the unknown region they use the force to help navigate it. they called them "skywalkers"
also because their species has much more intelligence as they age by typically 2 times (for example his species 5 year olds have the mental capacity of a 10 year old, so in that sense a physically middle aged man would have a mental capacity of a wise old man)
@@TheTrytix Well if you read the Legend comics he did learn to understand the force to a degree.
I love thrawn... he's such a cool villain, and he's excellent at his job. The only thing keeping him from winning against the rebels was the incompetence of his fellow imperial officers.
this scene gives the same vibe as Vader running towards this incompetent female inquisitor (can't remember her name) in the Kenobi Series. Vader always walks slow and calmy, but a scary and cunning calmness, but him running at her must've felt 10x more terrifying.
@@_LYo the inquisitor's name is reva or third sister (and she is garbage), and the thing with Darth Vader is so true. People who typically use a calmer style of intimidation are even more terrifying when they actually get angry
It's one of the only times in old canon or new that Thrawn ever gets visibly furious, so disgusted at Slavin's iconoclasm.
He is like "BOY YOU BETTER SHUT YO IGNORANT GAP BEFORE I-...report you for incompetence and demote you"
I am so ready to hear this voice again in Ahsoka. This premiere hit every mark for me and soothed all the concerns I would've had. I eagerly await the return
And? Was it as you hoped it to be on this week's episode?

35:41 "Hey!"
"Fascinating"
Best moment hands down
If only Gideon survived to meet Thrawn. If he was afraid of Luke Skywalker, then he'd be completely terrified of Thrawn.
So..The entire chess pieces are in place.😒
I think Gideon outranks thrawn though
@@SpookyM0aiManI seriously doubt that
@@junior523 I could be wrong lemme check
@@junior523 ok yeah thrawn definitely outranks Gideon. I could have sworn moffs outranked thrawn though
The fact that he let the rebels win a bunch of smaller battles so he could track their movements and find their base... and then when the rebels tried to remove their planet from his database of possible locations, he memoized the planets and knew the one that was missing was their base???
He is SUCH a good villain.
also known as, The long game.
Thrawn is the type of villain that plays the long game yet very calculative, learning his enemies tactics and their history. Knows how to cut his lost when the battle is not going in his favor without letting his own ego consume him further. This is what makes him one of the dangerous villain in SW.
I hope in the Ashoka show that we hear Thrawn before we see him, his voice is iconic and it’s so slow and cold.
I have good news for you. The voice actor in Rebels also plays him in live action
Forgive my ignorance, gyr how is it an insult?
Thrawn compliments his enemies. He never insults them.
@@ryankwon8785 i think its just his asessment of a very few capable commanders that are present. More like the chihuahua is funnier than a shitzu
Basically like calling Germany the richest country in Europe, while countries outside of Europe, like China, USA, Russia, and Japan exist.
He respects his enemies abilities. He would not say Sato is the best to come out of the Mykapo system as an insult. He says it to recognize Sato’s abilities as a commander.
“I will start my operations here and pull the rebels apart piece by piece. They will be the architects of their own destruction.”
- Someone who should’ve been at Yavin/Endor
Captain Pellaeon wonders several times during Heir to the Empire how different the Battle of Endor would have been with Thrawn leading the Fleet. Honestly, the Rebels never would have won.
@@mish375 I mean quite literally not even Grand Moff Tarkin took the proper approach to this battle. Thrawn would have forced the rebels to play chess with him, a game they most certainly wouldn’t have won
@@nggyunglyd2374 Oh sorry I meant Battle of Endor in ROTJ. But yes, Thrawn would have been giving more than an "are you stupid" stare (like the one he did to Morgan) when he heard that Tarkin actually allowed the Rebels to have the Death Star plans and didn't try to guard against the vulnerability in the DS' hull.
Thrawn straight messes with your head. This is why he's one of the most dangerous admirals in the empires ranks
It's interesting how Kallus points out civilian casualties - he had some sense of honor that developed into desertion.
In the first new canon Thrawn book, it's revealled thst Pryce was the one responsible for the civilian casualties. Thrawn didn't like that but sadly there was nothing he could do about it. It's one reason why he only tolerates her, but doesn't like her.
I like how he upgrades is bodyguards to death troopers after almost being assinated
bro knew he needs all his guards to be locked in at all times
Grand Admiral Thrawn is a true piece of work. His weapon is his mind and how he deals with all of the situations around him. He sees the bigger picture indeed. The whole Galactic picture.
5:45 Thrawn was so sick of the officer incompetence he almost snapped at him
It’s because Slavin was being racist/speciesist. Thrawn does not tolerate racism because that’s something he faced a lot of while at the imperial academy in his earlier days.
We really need more of thrawn
200th like
The live action Thrawn was garbage.
Strategist vs tactician.
When they meet. The strategists has to make a net. The tacticians a lot of traps. Commonly ends with a strategist trapped after a miracle move. Or a tactician tired surrounded
He is also humble enough to give credit when credit is due. Such as 36:28
Bros got an ASMR voice
God, his voice is so satisfying to listen to.
37:53 - 38:04 pretty much sums up the entire plot of star wars rebels
Damn, it's awesome how half a dozens of really good character pretty much often makes me cheer for the empire
Now im not saying that Rebels is a bad show, i quite enjoy it. But lets take a moment to imagine what could have been if Rebels, was created with the same animation style as The Clone Wars, with the same budget, and without the restrictions Disney put on them.
The central story would still be the same. It would just look way better than it does. Maybe we'd have a little more brutality like Chopper chopping heads off, but otherwise, pretty much the same
@@anubhavdassharma1854I’d like to imagine that the battles would’ve been so different than what we have but it ended the same way as they did (like the Rebel bomber attack on Lothal)
@@RoderickTiernan Rebels would have a few more deaths here and there, and maybe a little more brutality. It wouldn't change the themes, messages and the story the show was trying to tell.

They really should've killed off Sabine's mother and brother, it would've been a good emotional and impactful moment, especially right after they managed to save her dad and it will hammer in the consequences of her actions even more
@@Brother_O4TS I do agree.
I love thrawn so much
I love the little fact that the only person Thrawn even was afraid of was Anakin skywalker/Darth Vader, noone really scared him more then skywalker and he did not enjoy the fact Ahsoka was Anakins master, love it. He might not have shown fear from the name Anakin skywalker but hes actions shows it and the Comic says more about it.
Ahsoka was Anakin's Padawan he was her master
Yet he still had the balls to tell Vader to his face that he had come up with three ways of killing him, dude is crazy in control of his emotions.
He was also scared of Bendu.
One of the most different villains i’ve seen in a show. The main reason I loved rebels as much as i did.
Same. I loved Rebels so much. Thrawn is one of my favorite characters
Just writing to say thank you for this compilation. Without this context a lot of the Ahsoka series did not make sense. Using Thrawn as a focal point seems like a good way to catch up.
You're welcome!
Man this this guy is smart. And knows how to play the game masterfully he rivals the likes of Char or Lelouche I never knew of Thrawn before rebels but now I know why hes so beloved has good ...Real Good.
Char was kinda held back by his selfishness, misguided quest for revenge and his obsession with amuro .
Full frontal is a superior version
I kept almost falling asleep throughout this entire video, not cus i was bored but because thrawn has the most soothing voice I've ever heard for absolutely no reason??? He might be a villian but everytime he talks i feel oddly calmed💀
Thrawn is the three Cs of villainy

-Cunning

Thrawns voice is somehow soothing
The audio books are excellent. The voice actor was incredible
The audio book Thrawn sounds an awful lot like Mauls voice actor. Which is a fitting difference for Thrawn, love both voices
thank you writers for giving thrawn the honor of going out like a badass

Yes. But Tarkin had something Thrawn Didnt had... Killer edge and murder instict... Wich the sith and dark side thrives on.
a fact you may not know: thrawn is voiced by a danish actor called lars mikkelsen, who is the older brother of mads mikkelsen, who is well known for playing galen erso in rogue one, jürgen voller in indiana jones 5 and replacing johnny depp as grindelwald in the harry potter spinoff movies. as for lars mikkelsen, he's well known in the uk for playing charles magnussen, the main antagonist of the bbc's modern version of sherlock, and he's actually returned to play the role in live action for future projects spearheaded by dave filoni, starting with the ahsoka tv show
This is exactly what I needed for today's episode!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Thrawn should have his own movie with his origins and backstory and how he joined the empire and met the emperor
You can read the novel Thrawn (2017). It's about that and it is really good
You'd love the Thrawn: Ascendancy trilogy then and the first new canon Thrawn book (Thrawn, 2017).
Grand Admiral Thawn is like a super duper tactical droid.

That's our Thrawn!

I honestly got a really bad feeling that they'll do Grand Admiral Thrawn a hell of a dirty in the Ahsoka show. He's supposed to be a brilliant strategist who was steps ahead of his opponents, highly intelligent, and intimidating, and I feel like they're gonna turn him into a buffoon which I really hope not.
They already did that in Rebels.
@@arozinos863 Yeah, but I couldn’t imagine the Ahsoka show doing it far worse.
Im super worried and with Filoni having history of ruining EU characters, he's prolly gonna make him look like an evil villan like he did in Rebels
Yall stupid, you forget that he literally only lost due to the ignorance of his underlings and space whales, faloni wrote him practically indifferent to the source material as in legends thrawn literally only lost because the betrayal of his bodyguard.
The only thing that defeated thrawn directly was space whales that came from sectors away.
